What things do you wish were socially acceptable?

I wish that you could ask random people to bring their dogs(And other animals) round for a playdate.(With me) I see so many new dogs and I wish people would bring them to my door so I could meet them.

Likewise with newborn babies.

I also wish that it was ok to ask everyone's name or to wear name badges. I'm fascinated by first names and I always want to ask baby and children's names and why the parents chose them.

What do you wish was socially acceptable?

Oh, and ‘RTFN. It stands for Read The F-ing Notice. This says Entrance. You go in that way. This says Exit. You go out that way. This says Card Payments Only. These checkouts do not take cash.’

Sometimes I think electric fences would be the only way to train people not to walk the wrong way into an automatically closing exit door. 🙄

To ask my Polish colleagues not to have loud screeching conversations with one another when they’re serving non Polish speaking customers. It’s beyond rude and it’s a mystery to me how they can think it’s acceptable.

My dear departed DF was Polish born but spent most of his life here so was a native English speaker. He encountered a couple of these as a customer and called them both out on it in Polish. Their faces were a picture.

Eating in public while fat.

Exercising/using the Gym equipment while Fat.

Just existing while fat really.

Sucking your thumb in public. Its always struck me as weird that you can smoke/vape which is really detrimental to yours and others health, but thumb sucking is not done. Odd.

You're an adult and you suck your thumb?!?! Wtf??????

Not wearing a bra when you have massive norks. Women with small tits have it SO much easier.

THIS!!!!!!!

bonzaitree · 22/06/2023 00:13

Starting a meeting at work with the acknowledgment from every attendee that nothing at all you are going to discuss in the meeting matters at all. Not in any way. To anyone. It’s just corporate nonsense. And you’re all just trying to get the job done you’re paid to do.

I really think that would set an appropriate tone.

Being excited about random things.

I saw a toddler clap and cheer when his Dad managed to retrieve a toy that had rolled under a shelf.

The world would be a better place if we clapped and cheered achievements like toddlers.

Lightbulbspark · 22/06/2023 00:21

Everyone automatically taking off their shoes when they come into a house. I know it is in some countries but not so much in the UK. I'm sure some people will quietly seethe at being asked and go start a Mumsnet thread about the indignity. Meanwhile, I just don't want the random crap of the pavements being walked into my carpets. I'd rather see their socks with holes in.

AlfietheSchnauzer · 22/06/2023 00:23

Talking about feeling suicidal.

"Be kind" MY. BACKSIDE. Been there a few times in the past and always got screamed at by whoever I turned to for support and was treated like I was scum of the earth.

To be able to say my dogs not annoying you, not making any noise or going anywhere near you is somehow is socially unacceptable while in the background your child’s constant high pitched gibberish / melt down over nothing which is getting on everyone else’s tits in is ok (I also give the sympathetic what they like, don’t worry about it look but it’s still annoying. I’ve been on both sides and all I can say is …really…..just really?😂

Many of those children could've had special needs such as Autism. Especially the "meltdown over nothing". Don't be so bloody judgmental ffs

  1. Asking random people what they're cooking for tea at the supermarket checkout. Other people's food shopping fascinates me!
  1. Scratching wherever whenever.
  1. Water cannoning neighbours dog to shut the fecking yappy thing up.
  1. Throwing dog shit in neighbours face when the let yappy dog into your garden to crap when they think you aren't looking....thank you CCTV....
  1. Saying no to the latest unheard of random charity collection at work is OK despite 'Margaret's' cousins grandchilds hamster having an ingrowing claw caused by a genetic defect no one has heard of. It's important to Margaret but I'll chose my own charities thank you!

Being barefoot

bluebeardswife7 · 22/06/2023 00:33

Babies. I work in fashion retail and pre Covid women would often toss me their baby for cuddles on the way in to the fitting room. Now they barely let you look at them. Let alone stuff a tiny fat foot in your mouth

bluebeardswife7 · 22/06/2023 00:33

Hmmmm. Maybe that is why

LordSalem · 22/06/2023 00:36

Being able to call someone out for being a dickhead without fear of them attacking you. When their behaviour was the problem in the first place.
Then again, balaclavas have become socially acceptable around here so that's a pipe dream.

Northernsouloldies · 22/06/2023 01:05

The outfit of choice of the numbskulls... North face /Nike identikit grey/black get up and a hand down the front. This should be eradicated and perhaps also the wearer.

BadNomad · 22/06/2023 01:08

I didn't even know half of this was socially unacceptable 😬Why does society care if you wear a bra or not??

I would like to be able to eat my food with my fingers when eating out, and to not have to talk on the phone.

Mamaneedsadrink · 22/06/2023 01:16

KevinDeBrioche · 21/06/2023 19:04

Being drunk in the daytime 🤣

I love day drinking!!

JockTamsonsBairns · 22/06/2023 01:27

In the supermarket, taking a run and slide on the trolley right up an empty aisle

tobee · 22/06/2023 01:52

Telling people not to sniff loudly and repeatedly in public. Telling people not to gob on the street.

Farting should never be socially acceptable, coughs arent smelly

But you can get germs and bugs from a cough... never heard of a fart giving someone covid.

Id take a bit of gassing over a week or more with a cold

The be kind brigade only works if it's a socially acceptable dilemma 😂 a functional depression or anxiety that can be romanticised. Any symptoms that make them either feel uncomfortable or impacts them is a big no no.

Yknow like how when you can't cry in public.. if you do it needs to be that silent cry, with a single tear gliding down your cheek 😂 not the choking sobs and snot running down your face. Unfortunately snotty cries for me are a given 😂 no one ever lets me cry into their shoulder just get asked if I want to leave and sort myself out haha

Gowlett · 22/06/2023 02:51

Having to be a “mum”. If I was just a person with a child, without all of the other parenting shite attached. I hate the identity politics of it all. I just want to have a laugh with my kid & bring them up as I see fit.

Same with being “single” before I was married. No such thing. I was just a person in my own right, not associated with another person. Now I’m not in anyone’s “other half” either. Just happen to be married.

Running like Phoebe in Friends - more of a whole-body workout

I did this once in a moment of exuberance over a field. I hadn't noticed the cow who was incredibly freaked out and started chasing me.

Phoebo · 22/06/2023 05:34

Saying what you actually think. I'm not sure if that would make the world a great place or a horrible one
