There is no way to rescue these poor people. they are 13000 feet down there is no cable long enough for that plus the danger the rescuers will be in is too much. you would have to physically pull it up from the ocean which is impossible. its totally shoddy the vessel. total charlatan of a ceo. its shocking.
The paralells - superrich people die on the titanic and super rich people die at the site of it. Titanic triangle ??? scary

MySugarBabyLove · 21/06/2023 07:32

also for people questioning the cost of this rescue, this is about more than just rescuing five people in a sub, it’s about gaining knowledge and experience so that other rescues carried out in the future are more likely to yield success.

That’s disgraceful

They aren't funding the huge rescue mission themselves though are they?

So what, they didn't demand it either, did they? People don't generally pay for rescue at sea - they request assistance and those whole can assist, do.

Rubychews · 21/06/2023 07:41

I heard there is no possible rescue, the other submarines that are even capable of going that deep don’t have arms etc to do anything to pull them back and it’s not like you can just swim from one to another that deep. This was a adventure company with no plan for accidents.
hopefully I am wrong but this is my limited understanding.

Hohohogreenjennie · 21/06/2023 07:41

Is it a realistic proposition to say the banging is actually them?

I don’t know how to to feel about this new development. I’m happy there is the possibility that they are alive but it’s absolutely terrifying knowing they’re alive and about to die 12,500 below the sea and fully aware of what has been happening.

Willmafrockfit · 21/06/2023 07:43

they will be coming to terms with it, in the submarine, listen to the chap who has been quoted here.

Can't imagine why. What a catch 🙄

Blueberrylemoncake · 21/06/2023 07:45

@Radyward it was mostly the lower classes that died on the Titanic. The rich people got on the lifeboats.

DisgustedOfTidmouth · 21/06/2023 07:46

Just seen Max Foster from CNN on Tiktok saying searchers have heard banging!

Sorry hadn't read the full thread!

I'm not certain of the truth in it, but a link on Twitter to police dept records showing he was charged with obscene comms to women online, and harrassment. Definitely police site though, so unless someone else miui his very unusual surname, seems authentic.

cakeorwine · 21/06/2023 07:49

It's not exploration or research.

But it is providing money to help fund development of such vehicles.

I can see why people do it - I look back at some of the things in my life where I have taken a risk and had some amazing experiences.

But I have tried to balance risk with adventure. People have their own balance point with what they see as acceptable.

How do you know what's been proffered behind the scenes. Two very wealthy families, maybe shouting about funding and donations isn't top of their list whilst their loved ones are missing, but how do you know they won't offer some kind of contribution afterwards?

SinnerBoy · 21/06/2023 07:51

This is presumably a more or less sound proof device, it would have to be, because the sound down there would be deafening.

It won't be sound proof, there's no need. A bang on the hull will transmit into the water.

Also, in the depths of the ocean, it's very quiet, unlike on a sea shore, with waves breaking etc.

IJustHadToLookHavingReadTheBook · 21/06/2023 07:53

Is the banging likely to be them actually banging or some other sonar phenomenon from the vessel? Sorry if stupid question!

ThisIsACoolUserName · 21/06/2023 07:53

There are three deep sea specialists on board the sub. They know there's zero prospect of being rescued from that depth. It made me wonder if they're only banging on the sub to give the other two passengers a sense of hope.

How do you know that they will? I'd imagine all their resources are about to be taken up by suing the company that organised this.

Inastatus · 21/06/2023 07:54

Oh God, the reports of hearing banging is both horrific and hopeful! Is there any way they can be found and rescued in time?!

OnlyOpenMouthToChangeFeet · 21/06/2023 07:54

Just been watching interview with retired Royal navy commander. He doesn't believe noise is from sub. He said Titanic itself makes lots of noise breaking down, and discerning a tap on a sub that small with all the other ocean noise would be pretty Indiscernible.

Every 30 minutes banging sounds like human activity.
If they sunk (likely to sink?) they will only let someone mark the spot, sadly.

BalanceMeHumours · 21/06/2023 07:56

The links with Everest climbing are interesting to me - as someone who is fascinated with those that climb extreme mountains and yet is repulsed by them often also. Everest has been commercialised. It is covered in litter and bodies since people in the 80s/90s started to 'sell' guided climbs that took people who were not really good/fit enough to do it on their own and, basically, carried them up.

I watch the abc report from Dr Michael Guillen which is twenty years old now and - even then - they found 'litter' on the Titanic wreck from people trying to scavenge from it.

I really hope these five get back alive and I wouldn't wish this fate on anyone. But I also wish humanity wasn't driven to push the limits of everything, often to its (and our) detriment.

It's not a great look, is it? Rather sad really. 😕
