No he was never a police officer. He was in charge of the office for investigating complaints against the police. A alleged rapist in charge of investigating rapists.

@Clymene he hasn’t even been convicted yet. Calm the hell down

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/06/2023 16:11

@drpet49 the vast majority aren't convicted. The vast vast majority.

That doesn't make the rape go away. Or the rot at the centre of policing.

Oh come on ……… you think the establishment is going to convict “one of their own” ….. he’s scratched enough backs to get off on a technicality..

his poor victims!

GreenIsMyFavoriteColour .. the statistics do not support the assertion that the CPS will prosecute based on a 'convincing narrative' nor that the 'bar is not high at all.'.

And @Felix125 .. rape support charities estimate that up to 90% of cases remain unreported and crime statistics show that 3% of cases in 2022 were prosecuted. That does not support the assertion that women feel like the can report rape without further trauma or that they will receive justice from the judicial system.

The fact that you suggest that 97% of rape reports are not convincing is insulting.

Well, the statistics do - if few people are getting convicted clearly they are going to court without adequate evidence.

However, I've googled and I can't find any evidence that "convincing narrative" is the test the CPS apply so yeah, I guess it's not.

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 16/06/2023 14:39

His victim was under 16.

And he'd have been more like 27.

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/06/2023 17:12

No. Juries have accepted defences such as 'a completely unconscious woman gave consent' and 'I fell over on her by accident and my penis entered her'. The general public, police, courts and media are steeped in misogyny and rape culture.

AutumnCrow · 16/06/2023 17:12

GreenIsMyFavoriteColour · 16/06/2023 14:44

Thanks for a useful post. I had no idea about the "convincing narrative" thing.

That's because it's bollocks

coffeedrinkers · 16/06/2023 14:56

@Brefugee Thankyou, and everyone else that believes me. I'm not going into details because it's an open case (30 years to late but whatever) I'd love to tell you all that things have changed but in my experience that's really not been the case over the last 5 years. To any police reading this go ahead defend yourself and I'll probably see some of you in court shortly! Thank fuck for lawyers who stand by women!
I'm not going to post anymore because it's making me to angry. Peace and solidarity to anyone who needs it and gets it x

Peace and solidarity x. Thank god for some decent solicitors - people like Harriet Wistrich have been so important. I hope you are supported.

As N.W.A. once said….

Fuck Da Police 🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻

Abusers go into jobs where they have access to children - teaching, coaching , clergy, police etc stop blaming the whole service Shock

Seas164 · 16/06/2023 10:08

Rotten to the very core.

The police? What an awful thing to say. No wonder so many officers are leaving their jobs and commuting suicide.

It's not all police ffs.

Jellyx · 16/06/2023 17:35

ODFODeary · 16/06/2023 11:05

How do they get these positions of trust
I’m appalled and sickened

Because they're manipulative and people tend not to report rape.

Jellyx · 16/06/2023 17:38

AlisonDonut · 16/06/2023 14:03

There is a reason that the police and CPS don't want to prosecute rapists, and alot of the time they don't want to put the rapists' future careers in jeopardy so don't proceed with cases.

The fact that the women and girls loves have been blasted apart never crosses their minds. All they see is a man and his potential.

It's because it's so hard to prove in court. Many victims do not come forward immediately and so all biological evidence is lost.

Would you sit on a jury and find someone guilty because person has said they've commited the crime? No..so CPS won't progress it through court (police don't get a choice!).

If multiple victims come forward then a conviction/ guilty finding is more likely and therefore will go via court.

Half of the public, police and courts are women!! There are more female solicitors than men these days. Juries are half women?!

You clearly don't know any police officers. How awful to tar them all.

ConstitutionHill · 16/06/2023 15:53

I started a thread about this earlier. UK police- a swirling cesspool.

What a load of rubbish. I personally know an officer who committed suicide last month.

So sick of the abuse police get. You have no idea what the job is like. NO IDEA!

Jellyx · 16/06/2023 17:41

Imnotahoarderreally · 16/06/2023 15:50

The police are just thugs in uniforms.
During the miners strike my db saw an officer pick a boy of about 9 up and throw him hard onto the road, the boy had smirked at him.
He also saw miners being thrown into a police van and the police officers arms appearing in the window and disappear again over and over as they beat the victims.

When exactly was this? 1960?! I'm sure the video would be all over the daily mail if this was recent and true Hmm

Jellyx · 16/06/2023 17:43

@SamphireSandwich
No- I have family and friend who investigate sex crimes (female) - this is simply not true.

Lamelie · 16/06/2023 17:43

schnauzerbeard · 16/06/2023 10:24

I disagree

I disagree too but I am inchoately angry at how the police just pissed away what we had. They’re unarmed and light touch in comparison to most countries around the world- because we trusted them- policing by consent and they’ve lost that trust.

Jellyx · 16/06/2023 17:44

Do people realise that half of the officers are female? And those specialist in investigating sex crimes are majority women?!

ATeamsvan · 16/06/2023 17:44

Miners strike was 80’s and the poster refers to an eye witness not a recording.

Jellyx · 16/06/2023 17:47

@ATeamsvan @Lamelie so something 40 years ago is relevant now because?

Unfortunately at this stage if they're not reporting their colleagues (and we know it is many colleagues) telling rapey/racist jokes, etc, they are also part of the problem.
Why are many leaving? Because they may get caught if the Home Office checks them all out properly.

We know that senior officers believe many serving officers to be part of the problem. This accusation isn't coming from a few ol' manhaters on MN

Fucking hell @Jellyx

Spamming the thread much?

Your posts are full full of nonsense and inaccuracies I can't be bothered.
