What has the handyman done with my nightdress?!

I can't find my nightie anywhere! Had a handyman round this morning just to address a couple of patches of damp, one of them being in my bedroom, on the wall close to the en suite.

I hang my nightie and dressing gown on the back of the en suite door every morning, and on the other side of the door I have an old evening dress that belonged to my dm.

I was rushing out this morning and didn't think about moving the clothes off the door. Came back earlier to find he's moved my dressing gown and my dm's dress over to the hooks on the bedroom door. But there's no sign of my nightie.

Im not suggesting for a minute anything dodgy has gone on but - where is it?! Did I, without thinking, put it somewhere? If so, I still can't find it!

I'm more confused about the DM's ballgown constantly on the ensuite door. Why?

ABedroomByAnyOtherName · 14/06/2023 05:13

Another vote for him taking it. I don't fully trust anyone working in my home anymore, it's not worth the risk.

When we had our windows replaced a few years ago, I positioned the bedroom furniture right up against the sliding wardrobe doors, mostly to give them a clear space to work, but also to block any access - this meant the sliding doors were blocked and the drawers inside could only be opened if the sliding door was fully open. Sure enough, once the window fitters had left, I went in and you could see that someone had tried to force the door open on the wardrobe!

My Mom also had a jewellery roll go missing when she had work done to her roof - she hadn't taken it out of her bedroom as she reasonably thought they wouldn't be anywhere near there...she was very trusting and it was a horrible experience for her to realise one of the workers had been in her bedroom and taken it.

With the ironing board

Whatever did happen to that ironing board?!

If it helps, my husband once stole a ladies silky dressing gown in a panic.

You know you're dealing with a strange situation when the above statement is of help.

🤣🤣🤣

He’s wearing it and he’s re named himself Brenda.

My thoughts exactly.

GreenwichOrTwicks · 14/06/2023 06:07

I had an odd experience a few months ago and thought it too far fetched to assume had been stolen but these experiences make me think maybe it was. I had s sexy slinky scarf we irevto an Xmas party and a male acquaintance, who has always fancied and commented on how lovely my perfume is, me made several comments about his gorgeous/soft/sliky it was. A few weeks later he was working the bar at our hobby club and I was wearing it there. Next day I realised I had lost it and must have left it in the chair at the club. No-one would have taken it as only friends there who would know it belonged to me.
Messaged him as he would have been studying/locking up and would surely have found it. He said no sign of it -he would 'look out for it'
He had been so effusive about it before that I did have my suspicions.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 14/06/2023 06:13
  1. He took it.
  1. You'll find it in a few months and you'll be incredibly surprised! That kind of thing has happened to me...😫😂
determinedtomakethiswork · 14/06/2023 06:16

Did you get toothpaste on it and put it in the washing machine?

CrunchyCarrot · 14/06/2023 06:39

If you can't find it then the only option you are left with is that he took it!

Bluesheep8 · 14/06/2023 06:52

Has he accidentally built it in to anything? Check for black lace peeping out behind the plaster.

Can you hear 'Agadoo' if you listen carefully? 😄

That took me a moment!

I'm sorry, but you need to say goodbye to your nightdress

😂😂😂

Yikes...I now have a mental picture of these two in sexy nightwear.

@IDontWantToBeAPie I didn't mention my dm was late. As it happens, she is. And so is dh so we'll never know whether or not he would've liked my nightie :)

I'd say bye bye to that nightie, its now a handyman cum rag!

I fear this is the fate of your nightie. Hopefully, he waited until he got home, and didn't knock one out in your bathroom 🤢

InTodaysNews · 14/06/2023 07:27

Have you checked your undies drawer....or even checked your undies in the wash basket?

passiveaggressivenonsense · 14/06/2023 07:31

It could be found himself in need of a rag to mop up some mess he made eg grout or silicone or something that had to be cleaned up quick and perhaps your nightie served this purpose ? Have a look in your outside bin !

Stravaig · 14/06/2023 07:41

Another vote for an emergency cleaning rag. I always clear any fabric of any kind towels from the area being worked on, and show them where the rag pile is.

FancyShmanci · 13/06/2023 20:06

Are you a similar size as the handyman?

😂My first thought too!

WhineWhineWhineWINE · 14/06/2023 07:54

You know that asking a builder to look at the damp patch in your bedroom is code, don't you? 😉

cloudydays2 · 14/06/2023 08:02

He definitely wore it to bed last night, seems light and breezy in this heat 💁🏼‍♀️

LoonyLois · 14/06/2023 08:07

You won’t be able to look at him again now!!!

I wonder if he dropped it when he moved the other bits and it’s on the floor somewhere

Walkaround · 14/06/2023 08:13

Maybe he accidentally got polyfilla on it, or trod on it, or used it to wipe the sweat out of his eyes because he thought it was a hand towel, or couldn’t see through all that sweat that he wasn’t grabbing a handtowel, then hid the evidence? 🤣

viques · 14/06/2023 08:14

Sniggering at the thought of “handy”man . So appropriate. Next time you need to book a “damp patch” operative. Or a “ Jack of” all trades. Or again, maybe not.

A domestic remedial specialist maybe……..

Walkaround · 14/06/2023 08:15

I definitely agree with those who say builders, plumbers, etc, tend to grab stuff you did not want them to use to wipe up spills and leaks, unless you hide it from them.
