Anyone local know what’s going on?

Looks like a huge response.

No speculation, just really sad about what’s happened in my city today and praying those in hospital make a full recovery.

Looks very concerning, who are all the men in maroon and black gear?

They are part of a specialist response unit set up after the Manchester Arena bombing, have a wider scope than bomb disposal.

notimagain · 13/06/2023 10:45

@RudsyFarmer

Probably even more reason to not piss them off but my comment was certainly not ‘vile’.

Appreciate your reply but just for clarity can I emphasise I didn't use the word you've put in quotes.

headcheffer · 13/06/2023 09:42

Part of the fire and rescue team. You can see it says "rescue" on their helmets.

Possibly police and ambulance too, I think they may be inter agency rescue teams specifically trained for these types of incident.

Mutabiliss · 13/06/2023 10:48

Nottingham has a problem with gang violence and has done for some time, so I imagine it's related to that or as someone else suggested, a family feud.

Redebs · 13/06/2023 10:52

Police have expressed condolences to the family, singular.

What a horrible shame for all those involved.

DrBlackbird · 13/06/2023 10:53

I didn’t decide it was Russia. I said, or at least was thinking, that when you provoke a country though supplying arms you heighten the risk of a terrorist attack. Currently we are very much provoking Russia no?

No. We are not ‘very much provoking Russia’. Russia (Moscow / Putin) and only Russia is wholly and entirely responsible for its unwarranted crimes against the Ukrainian people. Destroying cities, lives, land, murdering hundreds of thousands of armed forces and civilians alike, kidnapping children, purposely causing ecological disaster, and creating global chaos and famine beyond Ukraine on top of tens of thousands of war crimes.

Good god. How can anyone believe that helping an independent sovereign nation defend itself against an entirely vicious and unwarranted attack is us ‘provoking’ Russia? An argument straight out of RT…

Apologies for the derail and thoughts and prayers to the families of those killed and injured.

Ukraine conflict: What war crimes is Russia accused of?

The International Criminal Court in the Hague has issued an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

I’m not against helping Ukraine but we have put ourselves in the firing line by doing so. That’s a fact and we may well find there will be consequences in the future because of it.

UthredofBattenberg · 13/06/2023 10:57

While it's terrible that three people have died, 4am seems a strange time for a terrorist incident. Not a lot of random people around to target.

If it is drug or gang related, then it may have been a targeted attack?

Emotionalsupportviper · 13/06/2023 10:57

RudsyFarmer · 13/06/2023 09:57

Why is that a ‘vile comment?’ Someone said the people in uniform were bomb disposal and I said ‘I guess we are to assume a terrorist incident?’ Who else might be planting bombs if not terrorists? I guess it could be a WW2 bomb 🤔

I didn't think it was a"vile comment" either.

There have been incidents regarding Russian agents even before the Ukraine conflict. I thought it was a reasonable speculation (but just speculation, so not too much weight to be given to it.)

RudsyFarmer · 13/06/2023 11:05

Also in terms of the Russian/Ukraine conflict I think Boris absolutely loved trying to channel Churchill in his speeches. We could have quietly supported but he wanted to be a massive braggart about it in the hope of it positively impacting his own career. While Europe were having discussions he was out there with a bloody stab vest on making sure he was seen to be helping.

Anyway, regardless of all that it sounds like a very sad incident and I’m sure in time we will find out the facts ♥️

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 13/06/2023 11:05

What people don’t seem to realise is there’s lots of petty crime and criminals in their area, maybe even known to them but depending on your everyday life you might not know. I had no idea until a platonic male friend told me that his brothers (2 of them) had both been inside for gang and non related crimes, murder etc. I mean he lives the other side of London to me so….

I knew sadly enough through local area a few petty criminals when younger. Didn’t trust them then don’t now.

Probably a hit man job.

back in the day I knew of 2 people one a dealer killed on his doorstep and one killed at a rave can’t recall if he was a DJ or not. I didn’t know them personally but DB did. Both targeted. I feel actually sick saying this as it just feels scummy to me…

Bubblyb00b · 13/06/2023 11:10

OMG I cant believe this "russian terrorists" derail... If it was russia it surely would have been London, not Nottingham - older russians maybe heard of Robin Hood but most would have no idea what Nottingham is...

This to me sounds like drug/ gang thing, or maybe family dispute related.

blacksax · 13/06/2023 11:15

ThursdayFreedom · 13/06/2023 10:12

Well a fat lot of good 'being under surveillance' did.

There's always someone who implies that we should blame the authorities rather than the perpetrator(s).

JanesBlond · 13/06/2023 11:24

RudsyFarmer · 13/06/2023 09:58

So a suspected terrorist incident then?!! Honest to god are we pretending this stuff is an accident?!

What out of any of that suggests a terrorist attack in particular? Terrorist attacks are usually in busy places/times in order to provoke terror not so early in the morning. I think it would be more likely to be gang related.

PinkyFlamingo · 13/06/2023 11:26

ThankmelaterOkay · 13/06/2023 09:39

no idea, so let’s all wildly speculate.

Human nature to speculate.

pickledandpuzzled · 13/06/2023 11:27

I agree. Gang or domestic, or a combination.

It'll be some bitter bloke whose life isn't going the way he wants. He'll have an excuse of some kind. But the truth is he's inadequate.

’In the UK we define terrorism as a violent action that: Endangers a person's life, other than that of the person committing the action. Involves serious violence against a person. Causes serious damage to property. Creates a serious risk to the public's health and safety’.

Seems to fit the criteria 🤷‍♀️

Mummytolittleones92 · 13/06/2023 11:30

We all know what you meant by ‘terrorist attack’. You mentioned the Russians for a start.

Azandme · 13/06/2023 11:37

Some people clearly know very little about terrorism, but have an awful lot to say about it.

We should take those sorts of posts with a whole tipper truck of salt.

If we hadn't helped Ukraine and had let that nice Mr Putin have it, we'd be getting a lot more crap in the future. Blokes like him just keep on going till forced to stop.

SmartHome · 13/06/2023 11:43

I regularly go to work events in Nottingham that have a night out attached and I have to say that on a Monday night at 4am near kebab shops, takeaways, student halls etc there are lots of people out and about at that time, even on a Monday night - same as in any university town. Even in big cities like London in certain areas it would be the same.

Of course. I have concerns about how we went about it. As I said earlier I think Boris decided to go full blown Churchill on us. For his own personal ends plus it was a very handy deflection against the bad press re. partygate.
