There was a thread of questioning as I recall as to who had assured him, was it a government lawyer - no, or perhaps a SPAD - maybe. Others may remember better.

I wonder if that assurance was in writing.

Emails are forever.

Or was it one of the infamous Whatsapps on the phone that "can't ever be turned on"

Mr Johnson said he did not seek legal advice on Partygate because he had already asked the relevant people.

"The Conservative MP Alberto Costa asked Mr Johnson why he relied on “assurances from political advisers” such as Jack Doyle and James Slack instead of “a permanent civil servant, or more importantly, a Government lawyer”.
Mr Johnson replied: “They both said that the rules had not been broken, and the reason I didn’t ask a lawyer or another senior civil service was because they were the people who’d been there… they could give a view about the legality of that event.”"

I am absolutely certain that the police often ask people who might be guilty of breaking the law whether they did or not, much the best way of finding out what has gone on.

Is there a transcript of his committee hearing?

Ian Blackford
(Ross, Skye and Lochaber) (SNP)

My goodness, those of us on the opposite side of the House absolutely agree that he has to go...

As if Ian Blackford holds the moral high ground;

June 2022
The SNP has launched an external review into the support available to staff after an MP accused her party of “clearly falling short” of supporting sexual harassment complainants.
It follows the party’s former Westminster chief whip Patrick Grady being suspended from the SNP’s Westminster group for a week, as well as being suspended for two days, over a sexual advance towards a teenage staff member [male] in 2016.

The party’s Westminster leader, Ian Blackford, said he regretted that the complainant did not feel fully supported. He faced calls to resign this week after an audio recording in which he could be heard apparently encouraging colleagues to “give as much support as possible” to Grady was leaked.
However, he has now said that Grady’s behaviour was “completely unacceptable” and “should never have happened”.

I bet it will say he didn't seek effective reassurances but he told Parliament that he had.

Boris Johnson agreed and signed off the Privileges Committee investigation.

Wonder why he's so desperate to disparage it now.

Is it too much to hope for that he’s finally pushed his luck too far?

If we’re to be convinced that the Houses of Parliament are just full to the brim of arseholes I’m still pretty pleased one of the top ones has been held to account. Sets an example which apparently is sorely needed.

That's convenient. You posted about Boris Johnson's 'defence of Chris Pincher' earlier in the thread - but you don't care about Ian Blackford's defence of former SNP chief whip Patrick Grady - relating to 'a sexual advance towards a teenage staff member [male] in 2016'.

cakeorwine · 14/06/2023 21:50

It looks like there has been talk about the motion in Parliament about it and the subsequent vote

The privileges committee had hoped to sign off its report into Johnson’s conduct on Monday, but an 11th-hour submission at 11.57pm from him delayed proceedings. The committee met multiple times on Tuesday and signed off its report that evening. The 30,000-word findings are expected to be published on Thursday morning.
The government is set to announce that same day when a vote will be held formally on its findings – though Monday is the most likely point, given Downing Street hopes to bring the issue to a speedy close.

So she lied about resigning with immediate effect

Par for the course

jgw1 · 14/06/2023 21:57

Please this thread is about Boris lying. If we include lies his fans have told then we won't have any space left for his.

I do like the idea of an executive summary. I wonder if Johnson actually read it?

How do you know what someone does or doesn’t care about? It’s amazing how extrapolate so much in the absence of anything whilst attempting to steer the conversation off topic.

Which, if you’ve forgotten, is Boris pants-on-fire Johnson.

It's not really off topic though is it - sexual advance towards a male staff member, former SNP chief whip... and it wasn't me who quoted a puffed-up speech from Ian Blackford...
What do we on this side of the House have to do to make sure that the Prime Minister takes responsibility for his breach of trust... etc. etc.

People need to understand propaganda and how to people get persuaded to believe lies.

This.

I wish they'd focus more on this sort of things in the history curriculum and include it in PSHE.

Agreed

Johnson could be in more trouble

https://twitter.com/LOS_Fisher/status/1669055180430516264?s=20

Boris Johnson has been found to have committed ‘multiple’ contempts of Parliament in privileges cmtte report out tomorrow, according to people close to inquiry.

One source said on top of misleading MPs over lockdown parties, it was a contempt to discuss cmtte draft conclusion last Fri.

“Disclosing the outcome of the inquiry is itself a contempt of parliament. It is clear cut, it does not require further investigation,” source said.

Johnson said in a statement: “I am not guilty of any contempt of parliament and did not knowingly or wittingly mislead the commons.”

Right person, wrong thread it would appear (apologies) - but you quoted the lengthy, puffed-up speech of moral superiority from Ian Blackford on this thread, and Chris Pincher has been referred to several times.
