MPs on the privileges committee have finally signed off their long-awaited report.

Showdown coming tomorrow when after a year, we will finally see the findings that triggered Boris Johnson to quit parliament

I can't wait for our friends reaction to it.

How many links do they have lined up ready to whatabout?

IClaudine · 14/06/2023 14:22

Certain people have been quiet today. Collating a response?

OP posts:
DuncinToffee · 14/06/2023 14:23

They haven't given any indication about how they feel about anyone misleading Parliament so it will be interesting to see what they have come up with.

heartsinvisiblefury · 14/06/2023 14:30

I'm ready to play Whataboutery, random weird irrelevant link searching and mentioning Durham bingo!!! Eyes down!!

jgw1 · 14/06/2023 14:42

Look the report says there was no conga or dancing so it wasnt a party.
Why can't we move on and talk about all of Boris' successes?

Notonthestairs · 14/06/2023 14:42

It will be interesting to see what (if anything) is leaked from Johnson's response. I imagine he is the sort of person that would want to get his story out first. That way the headlines are his.

jgw1 · 14/06/2023 14:43

Boris didn't know that no one had given him assurances that all rules were followed, because he has never listened to advice from anyone else.

Notonthestairs · 14/06/2023 14:48

"I have no recollection of..."
"At no time did anyone..."

He'll suggest Doyle or Reynolds are 'mistaken' that they advised him that he could not claim that all guidance was followed.

You didn't say I should do that, you said that it wasn't a good idea to do it.
They are two different things, so I did it, and now I am hurt.

DuncinToffee · 14/06/2023 14:55

It's going to be attacks on the committee members and those who 'betrayed' him.

Maybe he will throw in some latin phrases.

Breaking:

The Privileges Committee report is... big

Told it comes in at nearly 30,000 words, with extensive annexes detailing evidence

Boris Johnson's latest response will be appended to the document with a response from the committee

It's expected to drop at 9am tomorrow

Just for contrast, the US constitution, which is a guide on how to run a continent, clocks in at 4,400 words.

heartsinvisiblefury · 14/06/2023 15:31

The additional thousands and thousands of words will form part of Boris's defence and will consist of all the links copied from a prolific poster on here along with all the whataboutery from another. That's why they've been quiet - they've been copying and pasting all afternoon.

IClaudine · 14/06/2023 15:32

Hopefully there will be an executive summary of the report!

DuncinToffee · 14/06/2023 15:41

Possible 2 word summary?

He lied

SerendipityJane · 14/06/2023 15:46

Or one word:

mendacavit

It starts

"Boris calls on Bernard Jenkin to resign over his own drinks party"

(Guido Fawkes)

Notonthestairs · 14/06/2023 16:05

Overlooking that Johnson has been investigated for misleading Parliament - not breaking legislation.

Indeed

I was going to post this for Clavinova and Janiie

The committee were not judging whether he broke the rules

They were looking at whether he lied to parliament.

will keep it handy

But the SOP - from the Goebbels playbook - is to derail debate by switching to a distraction.

If it were possible to collectively swerve the squirrel posts it might be worth it. But as it is, the busier they make threads where the clear thrust is what cunts Boris Johnson and his band of Tory tossers are, then the higher they float in Google. Donald Trump can get away with it, because the US political system is broken in different places to the UK one. In fact it's one of the key things that has protected the UK from the virus that is Trump.

We may need to c&p this a lot in the coming days, Duncin.

I do hope we see a reappearance of Starmer's donkey field, that would be a delight.

itsgettingweird · 14/06/2023 16:53

The thing with the Starmer and Johnson investigation and that Johnson received a FPN - is that it was a whole year apart and different rules.

It's like comparing apples and oranges.

itsgettingweird · 14/06/2023 16:57

However - this is NOT about the parties, but about misleading Parliament

Exactly.

And not just once but numerous times.

And now it seems (the report will confirm it either way ) that he misled parliament when he said he was told to say all rules were followed - but actually he was told not to say it. That he went off script to what was actually written.

Oh but a tangled web we weave .....
