Lettice isn't a nickname - it's a proper name.

One of the women at Elizabeth the I's court was Lettice Knollys- she was quite a stirrer, IIRC..

Interesting! The poster spelled it with a ‘u’ as in the vegetable, which is why I responded the way I did, as Lettuce is a nickname.

Lettice, on the other hand, is indeed a name and a different thing altogether.
