What are the best TV Themes?

We've had a lot of lovely nostalgic threads lately which I've really enjoyed so I wondered what people's favourite TV themes are, both adult and children's TV.

I wasn't around for the original series and haven't actually watched it but the Black Beauty theme has to be one of the best. For some reason it makes me cry every time.

Succession, claro. And Van Der Valk, the original series.

AmbleInAnnBoleyn · 10/06/2023 19:26

How spooky, I was thinking of Galloping Home and up pops your thread.

And now the Black Beauty theme is my earworm for the evening. Also, on a horsey theme, White Horses.

Jeeves and Wooster series with Stephen Fry as Jeeves. I liked the titles as well.

Robin of Sherwood. The whole soundtrack, brilliantly evocative.

Brideshead Revisited.
(More recently, Good Omens).

Did the 999 theme scare anyone else as a child? I still loved the show though.

Lagershandy · 10/06/2023 19:46

Robinson Crusoe from the early 70's it was a French production I think, and the theme tune was wonderful.

SapatSea · 10/06/2023 19:53

It's going back a long way but I loved the theme for Ace of Wands.
Also from the 1970's the theme from The Flashing Blade, Robinson Crusoe and On White Horses rolled out every summer holiday on morning BBC Children's TV

Flambards is a weird one but gets stuck in your head

@midsomermurderess I spent may an hour at my gymnastics club learning a competition team routine with skipping ropes to the Van der Valk theme in the 1970's. I can still picture the moves when I think of the tune! IIRC it got quite high up "the hit parade."

A recent -ish one - The Game of Thrones Theme Tune is fantastic. Youtube has a video of top rock guitarists playing it in the fender workshop which is good for a listen for a different take

Watch as Game Of Thrones creator Dan Weiss, Tom Morello of Audioslave/Rage Against The Machine, Scott Ian of Anthrax, Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme, Brad Paisl...

Survivors sounds so sinister. I love it. I'm not familiar with the show but it looks so intriguing.

From childhood, The Littlest Hobo theme, along with its opening credits, still always makes me emotional.

A homeless dog travelling from place to place, helping people in need and then moving on...
