Things that make you irrationally annoyed

This is just for fun ...

The Shipping Forecast came on Radio 4 a short while ago and, as usual, I went grrrr and wanted it to go away. Ridiculous I know.

My mum's handwriting does it too - just have to see it for a second and I have an internal reaction. Absolutely no real reason for it.

An envelope with the address upside down.

I'm sure I've got dozens more ....

People who can’t summarise things and just drivel on and on; repetitive noises/actions like hair fiddling, foot jiggling, gum chewing, pen clicking.

This is ADHD

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 11/06/2023 11:52

When people say how "passionate" they are about something. I agree with, like the idea behind the concept but it was hackneyed 10 years ago when it started as some PR/HR department's piece of advice that snowballed

TBH It was hackneyed back in 2004 when I argued about it at a brainstorming session at work on 'how to make us more visible.'

OnenightinBangkok · 11/06/2023 11:53

Aspirational cafes that advertise bacon 'butties' for £7.

Seven quid for a 'buttie'.

Reminds me of that common people song.

People who stop a long way from the car in front at traffic lights then slowly creep closer and closer to them. Just stop in the right place to begin with!

This is for safety reasons. I think advanced driving teaches you this. Something to do with leaving enough space so if a numpty rams into the back of you you don't smash into the car in front as well.

Which I would understand if they always stayed a distance from the car in front but the people I have encountered end up right behind the car in front eventually anyway.

"Tasty"
"Snack" (maybe because I'm the kind of person who eats big meals and nothing in between?)
"Yummers" (from a particular relative who has lived in N.America for years, so I guess it's from there)
This emoji 😋 to indicate a certain food's deliciousness. Put your fucking tongue away, I don't even want to see it in emoji form. It's beyond twee.

Estate agent blurbs and floorplans that refer to PRINCIPLE bedroom

@Justcannot
I see Jacob Rees Mogg has received a Knighthood in Boris Johnson's Honours List.

Should have been called a Dishonours list

NotaCoolMum · 11/06/2023 13:26

Opening crisp packets upside down irritates the crap out of me!!

when people put the lettuce/tomato etc underneath the beef in a burger 🤣

Yes, I’m coming to think it might be. Or misophonia, it’s not just sounds (and loud eating, breathing enrage me) but repetitious things too, I think.

“Begs the question” being used for “raises the question”. It doesn’t mean that at all!

I always clock that too, but that ship has long, long sailed.

HelpMeGetThrough · 11/06/2023 14:06

I've seen it written a few times, but have noticed people saying it more....

"Oh gosh....."

Usually followed by some over the top response. Really grips me for some reason.

Why everything has to be a medical condition these days

People that walk into the room and immediately put the tv on. Then watch it while trying to have a conversation so are not paying attention and then deny being told something.

DH does this. A lot. Plus he never seems to be able to just enjoy reading a book in silence, it's always got to be noisy! Maybe I'm getting old! 🤣

LaMaG · 11/06/2023 15:07

People with loud voices. Or a really loud laugh or sneeze.
People who don't let other drivers out when it makes no odds to them
When someone stops for a chat and doesn't move over to clear a walkway.
People who do not make allowances for old people.
Old people who take too long!!
Walking while scrolling.
People who do not talk directly to a child and ask parent a question a child is perfectly capable of answering.
Parents who answer a child even when the question is directed at the child.
Family and friends who are fussy about restaurants, needing to 'do research' when you are just trying to catch up.
Anyone who either doesn't recycle or does it wrong.
People who talk about love island.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 11/06/2023 15:11

Opening a new milk , especially the little plasticy bit you have to rip off to get into it.

MsFannySqueers · 11/06/2023 15:34

That song from the Black Horse bank advert. This girl is on fire. It makes me feel like my ears and brain are on fire. I have never hated any other song as much as I hate that one.

No, I meant the people who do this have ADHD 😁

Yep. Have spent the day raging at anyone who'll listen.

Why everything has to be a medical condition these days

Because it’s far more common than previously thought and so many of us are discovering in our middle years that we’re not lazy, we’re not undisciplined, we’re not oversensitive, it’s that our brains don’t produce the expected substances in the appropriate amounts. Turns out it wasn’t ‘normal’ to spend every little bit of my energy keeping my life together. Who knew?!?

Yes why do people do this - it is really annoying. When I stop I want to stop, not keep having to creep forward. It's not the same as cruising slowly towards the lights in case they change, it's stopping, then moving forward a bit, then doing the same again. I just stay where I am when people do that even if a bit of a gap opens up.

Another one for me is where there are two doors, and instead of opening the one on their side while you open the one on your side, approaching people wait for you to come through. There is enough room for us to pass each other at the same time.

That's not an irrational annoyance though!

People who sit down in cafes before they've got their food/drink when there's a massive queue. Then sit there at an empty table while people who have their food/drink look for somewhere to sit 😡

I've not seen this chestnut on MN for a while. Nope, you get one of your party to sit down while another gets the order.

If you are on your own, or have small kids you can't leave unattended, you go somewhere with plenty of room or somewhere with table service, or somewhere where you can get your drinks and then go to the park to eat.

It makes no sense to spend ages in a queue somewhere when you don't know if you will have a table when you finish.

Also, some places need your table number and bring the food over.

lieselotte · 11/06/2023 17:19

Although that brings me onto my annoyance about cafes, although I don't think it's irrational - places that expect you to know by telepathy whether it's table service or bar service. Put a sign up please, or say on the menu. It's not hard!

Deathraystare · 11/06/2023 18:33

I have had to change my usual table in the cafe because of the bloke on the next table fcing me. Slurping and smacking his chops and constantly belching. Grrrr! (And I am someone who slurps her tea cos I drink it hot).

Also although out public transport in London is usually fine, at the moment we have strikes on tube, engineering or other works on trains, buses on diversion or just changing their mind where they are going. Usually I am ok as I do not travel a lot but whenever I go anywhere that is the date it all goes Pete Tong!!!
