Things that make you irrationally annoyed

This is just for fun ...

The Shipping Forecast came on Radio 4 a short while ago and, as usual, I went grrrr and wanted it to go away. Ridiculous I know.

My mum's handwriting does it too - just have to see it for a second and I have an internal reaction. Absolutely no real reason for it.

An envelope with the address upside down.

I'm sure I've got dozens more ....

I'm being picked on by a lady locally. She just criticises everything I do in a snooty 'this needs doing PROPERLY' way- and I thought I'd been more than helpful. It's got to the point that she only has to open her mouth and I get an internal rage. People have noticed how unkind she is being. Externally I'm cool as cucumber but have to say things like 'why do you say that? It's not kind, the job has been done, it works PERFECTY fine, we're not looking for perfection it's all voluntary you know' in return.

Caramelandsalt
Most drivers creep towards red lights, it saves fuel and stops having to set of in first gear . Thought it was common knowledge? Maybe just with professional/ competant drivers ??!!!

Absolute rubbish! 😂. Get in position, put your handbrake on and stopping using the engine is the best way to save fuel. Even better if your car has istop or similar.

@QueenOfHiraeth

When the pocket of a dress or cardi catches on a door or cupboard handle and I have to wrench it off and shout "fuck off" at the cupboard

Oh god yes! It’s the handles on my mother’s wheelchair that are the worst here. Bastard thing isn’t content to grab pockets, either - any part of your clothing is fair game.

@stitchinguru

Should of
could of
would of
might of
and the negative versions of the above.

It’s like fingers on a blackboard. Worse.

Idiots who don’t get into the left lane when they want to turn into the left lane of the T-intersection anyway, but turn from the right lane then immediately jump over to the left when there’s barely any room to do so. Thanks, I could do without having to slam on my brakes because you think you’re an F1 driver.

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit

Whenever I see the word nibling I wonder if it was pinched from The Exploits of Moominpappa or if it was made up by people who’ve never heard of Tove Jansson/think they’re being cute. But no, apparently it was made up by some linguistics professor in the ‘50s and “languished in obscurity” for decades (where it should have stayed, imo - what’s so bloody hard about saying or writing “nieces and nephews”?)

People who stop a long way from the car in front at traffic lights then slowly creep closer and closer to them. Just stop in the right place to begin with!

Possible explanation unless I'm the only person who occasionally does things like this for this reason - they have a baby in the car who will wake up if the car fully stops so are trying to keep moving as much as possible!

Justcannot · 11/06/2023 05:43

People cycling on pavements, with a special hatred reserved for those who cycle on pavements who ring their bells or shout agressively at you to move over. Fuck off into the road, you bellend!

The sight of Jacob Rees-Mogg. I am rationally annoyed by everything he says, but not sure why I viscerally react in such a way to his stupid face.

Reflexive pronoun use where it's not needed. Myself and yourself are quite rare words to use in English, yet so many people must use them 100 times per day. I'm not that picky about other grammar mistakes, can even cope with the occassionally 'could of', but that one gets me. There's at least one infuriating use on this thread.

When people leave the bloody open when they come in the front garden . It was closed when you come in why can’t you close it on your way out ! DH thinks it’s hilarious how much it annoys me I know it’s a minor thing 😂😂😂

No, you’re 100% in the right! Also people who walk into a cafe on a cold (or very hot) day and don’t shut the door!

The gate thing is definitely city people though, country folk know to always leave a gate how you found it or your mum will lecture you.

@QueenOfHiraeth

When I was 15 my mum had a rule that I had to wash my hair by 4pm or I couldn’t wash it.
I had a mad crush on a boy & he came early - I heard the bell & I yelled “COMING!” & threw on my robe & ran out the room & my pocket caught on the doorknob & it flipped me over onto my back haha — I remember trying to yell but I whispered “coming…”
I managed to make it to the door but it knocked the breath out of me. I’d forgotten all about that. Thanks for that funny memory.

Whatnextcrazyworld · 11/06/2023 06:15

People saying things like "Me and my friend went to xxxx" instead of "My friend and I went to xxx".

How do they not know it's grammatically so WRONG? We don't say "Me went to xxxx".

It makes my head want to explode!

Sorry @Caramelandsalt thats nonsense.
Especially with cars these days having engine stop features.

I asked the question of why cars stop a good car length before the white line at traffic lights and was told it was in case they were hit from behind.
The idea being they wouldn’t be shunted over the white line into cross traffic.

people who have to put their bit on a thread but can’t be arsed to read what anyone else has said.

I don't get annoyed. I am the least angry person you'll ever meet.

I understand anger and annoyance, I get it. Is anger just things you don't feel comfortable about saying? So it bubbles up?

Just say what you think. And if things are difficult to say, say them anyway. But calmly, and always invite a conversation.

GreenwichOrTwicks · 11/06/2023 06:50

So many of these.
Having to sign endless birthday cards for colleagues
Email signoffs with pronouns
Poster on MN who write long OPs about their partner tediously using 'they' instead of he/she
-confusing

When someone shouts on me in the house and expects me to come running to have a conversation rather than them move themselves to find me

OMW we had a family meeting about this today! Not normally one for a family meeting but it's driving me insane. Every five minutes someone is bellowing 'mum' or 'anxiouspixie' from another corner of the house. Why can't they just get off their backsides and come and talk to me! Grr!

Picturing you now calmly inviting a conversation with the doorknob after it’s just grabbed you by the sleeve and stopped you with a jolt 😉

I am another one who gets irrationally annoyed by people attempting accents. I am married to an American and it’s got much worse since then, you’d be surprised by the amount of people who speak in a weird American accent around them/when telling stories/repeating things. Makes me furious and also so embarrassed!

The way my DH opens the roll of foil. Breaking the box so it can't be torn easily for the 6 months it lasts for.
Oh and that used glass on the worktop above the empty dishwasher.

You can source the foil thing by opening as soon as you buy it, and then he doesn't get the chance to open it!

Taking the piss, including Mr Bean, Frank Spencer

eh?

I have a specific regional accent that some people seem to think they can do really well. To me their attempts come out as “This is what I think you sound like, you’re different ha ha”. I freely admit I’m probably reading too much into it 😂 But it’s infuriating when you ask a simple questions, eg “Where’d you park the car?” and the reply is, “Car” or even the whole sentence instead of a bloody answer!

charabang · 11/06/2023 07:58

People who say sarnies and yorkies.

RosesAndHellebores · 11/06/2023 08:07

@tanstaafl - taking the piss out of other people and in the case of Mr Bean and Frank Spencer ridiculing people who may be neuro diverse or have learning difficulties. I find the genre offensive.

Catsmere · 11/06/2023 08:11

“Begs the question” being used for “raises the question”. It doesn’t mean that at all!

Holyjinglebells · 11/06/2023 08:14

All of these things!
