I think that is another one

RafaistheKingofClay · 23/06/2023 19:34

That is another one.

Notonthestairs · 23/06/2023 21:04

The Times has just put up a fawning interview with Gillian Keegan. I suspect they just handed an aide a dictaphone and let them dictate what was in it. What particularly irritated me was the concern for school children impacted by Covid restrictions - not because I dont think children felt the full force of the restrictions, it has certainly changed my childrens lives and not for the better - but there is NO reflection on what they might have done differently or better. No references to the pressure schools were under. It's written as if they had no input at all.
There is a quick reference to the Schools Review Body recommending 6.5% and then in to how we cant afford it. Just moves on to a hachet job on the new NEU secretary. Exactly what they did to the BMA Juniors - imply they were all mad socialists and therefore not to be trusted (note they haven't tried that with Consultants Committee).
But there is also zero reference to any attempt to negotiate or her willingness to sit down with teachers.

We dont pay Ministers to sit on their arses blaming everyone else - we pay them to find a way forward.

Oh and they also forgot to mention that Keegan won't tell schools what their budgets are until the summer holidays.

That must make running a school and planning for staff so much easier.

The main problem with ministers is they have no skin in the game. If you had a child or grandchildren about to go into the state school system you'd shit yourself.

tobee · 23/06/2023 23:08

Why does Jeremy Hunt always look like he's continually getting goosed?

That's the bit I cannot fathom why there is so not much more public outcry about.

These are our children. It's their education and future and the government aren't even willing to stand up and say what they are prepared to invest in it.

Teachers strike called for July. 2 days.

Unison balloting support staff which closes 4th July. The day between the teacher strikes.

Support staff are becoming harder to recruit as it is - massively affecting pupils with SEND.

Will be interesting to a) see what result of ballot is and b) see how they respond if strike action is agreed.

Exclusive:

Ministers prepare to take rare step of blocking recommended pay rises for public sector workers amid fears of 'wage-price spiral'

As @HarryYorke1 reported review bodies have come back with recommendations of 6%+ - they're seen as unaffordable

Ministers have requested a sector-by-sector analysis on the inflationary impact of public sector pay rises - govt sources clear not all will be accepted

Rejecting recommendations would be politically explosive and lead to further industrial action

Decisions in coming weeks

so 6 months ago they couldn't do anything because they were waiting for the independent review bodies advice, now they won't do anything because they don't like the independent review bodies advice

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2023 09:57

Yes it's all a bit wait for Sue Grey, oh wait for the police, wait for the Privileges committee.
Wait for the NHS workforce plan.
Wait for the social care bill.

Endless prevarication - it spans years.

No wonder services are crumbling.

Not allowing headteachers to plan for the next year is atrocious.

Have they published the teacher pay review board recommendations?

I think for the Tory's now it's just

"Wait for the Labour government".

Then when they can't undo the mess we've created within a year we'll start our campaign to come back citing how fiscally irresponsible they are because we are in debt and public services are crap etc.

And sadly people will buy it.

DuncinToffee · 24/06/2023 10:06

That's why they are ramping up the culture wars

Wish they would stop identifying as politicians.

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2023 10:08

Labour will inherit a broken country.
I agree that voters will want them to wave a wand and fix it all in the first couple of years.

A report on the inflationary impact of public sector pay rises seems like a waste of money. They aren’t inflationary if there’s no onward cost to a customer. It increases government tax and NI income, if it increases recruitment and retention money will be saved on paying agency staff and advertising and a huge chunk of people will have more money in their pocket to spend.

Might be better to sort out how to fix the current inflation issue which is supply driven. Idiots.

RafaistheKingofClay · 24/06/2023 10:35

Not to mention that increasing recruitment and retention in the NHS will help to reduce waiting lists, getting more people back into work. I believe reducing waiting lists was one of the very important 5 priorities that Rishi bangs on about when he gets asked a question he doesn’t want to answer.

That’s what I thought, and I’m sure the government knows it too. They just want to blame inflation on greedy public sector workers.

RafaistheKingofClay · 24/06/2023 10:48

Gvt: We want a high wage economy.
PUblic sector workers: can we have a pay rise?
Gvt: No
PSW: why not.
Gvt: they are inflationary and are bad. Be poorer.

They really wouldn’t have such a problem if they’d just increased wages in line with inflation for the last 13 years. If you do that, at some point you’ll have to hike the wages up. Or the opposition party will.

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2023 11:33

Dorries has (presumably deliberately!) missed the deadline for a by election on 20th July. I guess she'll hang on like a bad smell until party conference.

So that little speech of hers was pure temper tantrum.

Hope nobody in Mid Beds needs help from their MP. If she was crap before she's not going to get any better whilst she's fretting about her title.

I imagine most agencies benefitting are Tory mates.

Fucking hypocrites. They’ve never rejected recommendations for increasing their own pay.

Bingo.

Yes there’s a lot of shit raining down on us right now but this pantomime of ignoring exactly why it’s so hard to withstand it for ordinary people is galling to say the least.

Lets have an honest conversation in parliament about that and hear plans to get past it.

newnamethanks · 24/06/2023 18:17

Steve Brine is one of the better Tories but hasn't got a prayer of hanging on to this seat. As he well knows.

Yes, I can't see how we're going to move forward without that. The chickens have come home to roost.

Because of this...

This is not normal…

4 different questions

4 almost identical answers

Imagine this being tolerated in any other job.

I have noticed this more and more with Sunak. He is like a malfunctioning robot, just answering any question with the same answer.

He's completely out of his depth, and it shows.
