In some rare good news , the brothers Tate have now been properly charged with rape and trafficking offences.

I'm outraged every single time (and about race inequalities) but it's quite draining and stressful when others aren't as much. I don't recommend impotent and isolated outrage.

Totally agree, I’ve got to point where it keeps me awake at night & wondering why we aren’t marching in every town & city.
I try sometimes making a tally in my head of all the outrageous/lies/dupicity downright criminal behaviour this government has presided over finding myself not being able to recall all the incidents.

Another day in the life of Nadine Dorries:

Bit harsh on goons. I hope they put in a complaint about this association.

She also claimed to have been "ragdolled" by Mr Nicolson during exchanges in a meeting of the digital, media, culture and sport committee.

what does ragdolled mean in this context? Google isn’t helping much.

Probably it means that he asked questions of the Minister, that the Minister hadn't bothered to think about before, but ought to have done, and when the Minister didn't answer the question, asked the question again, or a follow-up one to try and pin down what the Minister was actually saying.

Saucery · 20/06/2023 17:00

Shaken about like a rag doll. Figuratively, one would hope.

It’s Nads reminding people she’s a delicate flower of a woman who was subject to a man not thinking much of her…

The liked tweets were said to have included descriptions of Ms Dorries as being "grotesque", "as thick as two short planks" and a "mendacious, vacuous goon".

I struggle to understand what anyone could possibly object to there, they seem to me to be purely factual descriptions.

You’d hope so. I was hoping for some examples of it being used figuratively from google but my cursory glance only came up with the literal physical definition.

Which would definitely be very inappropriate for a committee meeting.

Right: George Osborne, former Conservative Chancellor, says austerity protected us from a worse outcome

Who do you believe?

Another inflation shocker.
UK CPI inflation stays at 8.7% in May.

Economists had expected it to fall to 8.4%
Core inflation (stripping out volatile stuff) RISES to 7.1% - expectations were 6.8%
Not good.

The trouble is not enough people believe in Rishi. If they did then inflation would halve.

Blossomtoes · 21/06/2023 07:47

Is that a bit like believing in fairies?

Notonthestairs · 21/06/2023 08:01

The economy is going to tank... the worst kind of #inflation"

"Here are the range of options. There's less good, and there's very, very bad"

Yes well, if you peasants could just stop buying food and energy we wouldn't be in this mess.

DuncinToffee · 21/06/2023 08:20

According to Hunt, inflation will come down, we just have to be patient

I think probably it is all the public sector pay rises that have caused this latest inflation.

RafaistheKingofClay · 21/06/2023 10:35

Another good day for the 5 pledges I see.

Public sector net debt now at 100.1% of GDP. The first time it’s been above 100% since 1961.

<checks which party was in government in 1961> Oh…

Notonthestairs · 21/06/2023 11:55

Conservatives must be on their last legs - they've given Lord Frost a VIP pass to become an MP. Means he'll get waved in to a safe seat.
Astonishing that they are going back to drink at the poisoned well.

Who do you believe?

Even if you accept the argument that austerity was necessary to create the conditions that allowed the furlough scheme, that doesn’t negate the impact of expenditure cuts on other services. There is no precise sun that can equate a missing bed with x amount of furlough scheme cash.

The only thing I would say is that of course Osborne would defend his time as chancellor, so it’s not clear why his submission was relevant - was it just for appearances? To give him a right of reply?.
