Why don't some people age?

I often notice people who do not age very much at all.

They still look 20 at the age of 30. Why don't they age?

I don't smoke, drink around 2 glasses of wine a year, eat ok, exercise, worn factor 50+ on my face everyday for years, but I can still me my face and skin aging. I don't know what is causing it.

Does anyone know any tips to stop aging or slow if down?

There is variation, but I don't know anyone who hasn't changed in a decade.

Perhaps you look much more closely at your own face?

ReeseWitherfork · 07/06/2023 21:10

Good genes? Plenty of water? An outsiders perspective?

Honestly, without trying to sound flippant, the newer to “I don’t know what’s causing it” is just the passing of time. Sounds like you’re doing everything else ‘right’.

I think people age more than you realise you just notice it more on you

blueshoes · 07/06/2023 21:12

It all catches up with you at menopause. Suddenly everything heads south.

Beginningless · 07/06/2023 21:13

I don’t mean to be facetious but you don’t know what is causing you to age? We all age, day by day, until we die. It’s a part of life you can’t stop. But to properly answer your question, I think people who look younger than their years often have less stress, ie no kids or are more confident and in control of their minds. I’m sure good genetics plays a part too. I’d imagine just trying to enjoy your life more in whatever way that means to you, is better than wasting good years worrying about aging which is natural and unavoidable.

BeverlyHa · 07/06/2023 21:15

Some people develop wrinkles much earlier than others. It is just genetics

LadyAstor · 07/06/2023 21:15

Everybody ages - apart from Heather Graham - god knows what she's doing but we're the same age and I look like her mother!

Well obviously I know that the passing of time causes aging but I seem to be aging quicker and I don't know how to slow it down. I really want my 20 year old skin back.

"I really want my 20 year old skin back"....its just not possible though

Reluctantadult · 07/06/2023 21:17

I think it must be genetics. My mum looks young for her age and so do me and my sister. Although I'm getting quite a few grey hairs now.

midsomermurderess · 07/06/2023 21:18

I've just seen a photo of Dawn O'Porter on Instagram. A close up, and not a line on her face in her early 40s. Some people are just lucky, good genes etc

Tahitiansummer · 07/06/2023 21:18

Start using tretinoin in your teens.

Quite easy to touch photos up though for insta!

BananaPalm · 07/06/2023 21:20

My work colleague looked not a day over 20 when she was very well over 30. I almost asked her whether she was still at uni when I met her 🙈 It wasn't till she had kids when I could really see she's aged during her mat leave.

Funnily enough, all my friends looked at least 5 years older when I saw them after their mat leave. Judging by the photos, the same happened to me... 🤦🏻‍♀️

She has a lot of volume loss in her face, more so than many people in their forties.

Anyonebut · 07/06/2023 21:21

I don’t even know who Dawn O Porter is, but I wouldn’t take an Instagram picture as a true reflection of how anyone looks in real life.

bonfirebash · 07/06/2023 21:21

Tretinoin and genetics
My dad looks a decade younger than he is, my grandad is 97 and is the same
Oilier skin tends to age better

blueshoes · 07/06/2023 21:22

It is mostly genetics, filters and then cosmetic work.

She could easily be mistaken for early fifties

bakewellbride · 07/06/2023 21:23

It's genetic 100%. I've got a friend who is very much a jeans and t shirt girl. Does nothing with her hair, never bothers with make up. She looks lovely all the time, zero wrinkles or any signs of ageing at all and she'll be 40 next year. She genuinely looks early thirties.

I have another friend who is 34 but looks at least 10 years older. She has expensive face creams.

There isn't really anything you can do about it!!! We all look older eventually & I couldn't care less.

Dacadactyl · 07/06/2023 21:24

@Tahitiansummer well I wouldn't go that far lol

FLOWER1982 · 07/06/2023 21:24

It’s genetics. I always looked very young, got asked for id. Then I had kids and hit 40. The thing is I still take care of myself, drink water, try and eat well, exercise etc. I’m sure it all counts, but it’s natural to age. And not to use a cliche, but it’s much better than the alternative.

Tahitiansummer · 07/06/2023 21:26

Harsh but I'm imagining no filters, real life.....

Yes! I always say this. I looked embarrassingly rather than "flatteringly" young before I had DC. Now I look like an adult and don't get asked for ID so much.
Everybody I know who ages very slowly has had a little spurt after DC and then maybe still age slowly but just not as slowly as before.

I think the stress, lack of sleep, early days of juggling trying to have a life but also looking after babies etc all add up and for those couple of years it catches up with you. Or maybe not because then everybody should age if they spend student years partying too hard and drinking too much, but not all do. I don't know what it is, but it is definitely a thing!
