Chub rub 😖

Bemyclementine · 07/06/2023 07:45

I've put some weight on, and for the first time am understanding the agony if chub rub. I'm wearing a dress to work today (because my trousers are too tight...) and plan to go fir a walk at lunchtime. Last time though, in the warmer weather, it was bloody awful!

I am trying to lose weight and also have started exercising 4 times a week so I'm hoping to banish it quickly (it seems to be the last half a stone that's made a difference)

For today though, what can I do?

I’m largeish and I get this, I love the Primark cotton cycle shorts - so cheap but comfy and not tooo unstylish.

I also get horrible red raised spots - they’re a bit itchy/sore and look awful 😳 Does anyone else get these and can offer any solutions? I’m very self conscious about them

The spots could be fungal - fungus loves warm sweaty places. Daktacort is good for this

Because for most people (not all), they are needed because the person is overweight. Hence the name.

"chub rub" is a brand name used by snag which do cater for larger sizes which has now become a generic term for these types of products.

Other places use different names like anti-chafe shorts.

BordoisAgain · 07/06/2023 11:32

Nope. Its nothing to do with weight.

Very few women have natural thigh gaps. The vast majority of us do have thighs that touch, regardless of weight.

For some people it’s nothing to do with weight, for others it is.
Not everyone without a thigh gap gets chub rub anyway.

In my experience, and believe me I know what I’m talking about, the only real solution to chub rub is to lose the chub.
The discomfort was one of the things which finally made me want to accept responsibility for my weight & take control of what I chose to put in my mouth.

Not true. I've had it at size 10. My kids got it on holiday and were skinny little things. Not everyone has the body shake for a thigh gap

Right so how is it a "sad reflection on the human race" that these products are needed?

Because for many women it’s because they are overweight.

Not all, but many.

HermioneWeasley · 07/06/2023 11:42

I wear sloggi long leg knickers which are cotton. I didn’t like snag - they’re made from tights material and I found them too hot.

Nope. The majority of women's thighs touch naturally regardless of weight or dress size (I think only around 5% of women have thigh gaps).

That's 95% of women who's thighs will rub together if they walk bare legged.

Trying to fat shame women because their thighs rub is why we are now seeing the whole "thigh gap" body ideal being enforced and younger women taking extreme measures to try to create a gap.

TallulahBetty · 07/06/2023 11:57

liquid talc

I just don’t believe that all the healthy weight women without a thigh gap experience uncomfortable rubbing.

I don’t, for example. The OP didn’t, until she put on weight.

RB68 · 07/06/2023 12:03

yeah M&S have a variety of solutions. Snag also really good - small price for short term comfort if losing weight is your aim. Also zinc cream overnight to heal

To lose weight, just make sure you exercise more than what your calorie intake is. Do the 12:3:30 work out believe me, it does wonders without having to go crazy. It's the treadmill at incline 12, speed 3 for 30 minutes. Also the stair master! Just those 2 alone has you lose the pounds quick. It's all about consistency and rest days are important otherwise your body doesn't have time to recover and shed off what you have worked for. Weighted exercise's are good too so that you can tighten what you are losing but keep a nice tone, firm shape. (I know this post wasn't about exercise but it's the only part of it I could comment on). I don't do anything to relieve the rubbing as it only becomes red and sore if I'm walking for a while in the heat which I won't really do anyway and our weather is no good haha so I don't go through it much but when I have and it's been very sore nappy cream relieves it and made it go away quick!

Would that work on an elliptical machine too?

No, they don't.

Neither do all overweight people either.

But regardless, there is an issue that affects women of all shapes and sizes which is being addressed.

That's not a "sad reflection on society"

It's providing options for women feeling pain and discomfort from an issue. No need to put some kind of moral value on it.

You know it wasn’t me that said that?

Pastaf0rbreakfast · 07/06/2023 12:15

Not read the full thread but I also get chub rub no matter my weight…have been size 8-12/14 and always had it.

I the snag chub rub shorts, much nicer than m and s in my opinion.

In a pinch, I find spraying on some dry shampoo to be much more effective than roll on deodorant.

Yes.

You made a post in response to that initial posts and then I responded to that.

Liquid talc in baby isle of Asda

I assumed from your response here that you were in agreement with what had been said though?

happyinherts · 07/06/2023 12:19

Can't recommend Vaseline highly enough. Smear it on affected areas and it will protect you for a whole day - even long distance walking. I really wouldn't be without it - it's permanently in my bag when I wear a dress. I'm now at ease with wearing dresses or skirts, when previously I just couldn't.

IHeartGeneHunt · 07/06/2023 12:21

This stuff works! Spray it on and stand like John Wayne for a moment till it's dry. Take it with you cos you'll need to reapply every now and then but it's fabulous.

Chub rub 😖

Just checking. Your posts don’t make any sense in the context of mine.

I was just explaining that post to you.

I then said that that for many people it’s weight related. You keep saying it’s nothing to do with weight and that I’m ‘putting some moral value on it’.

Maybe we just accept what the other is saying and leave it there. It’s totally derailing the thread.

Summerdayz530 · 07/06/2023 12:22

Liquid talc will help in future (or weightlifting liquid chalk or chalk) if you don’t fancy wearing shorts x

IHeartGeneHunt · 07/06/2023 12:23

Just to add, I've always had chub rub unless I was really thin, even at a normal healthy weight. I'm fat now like Grin

Summerdayz530 · 07/06/2023 12:24

I know a lot of healthy weight woman who get chub rub when they run - I’m one of them!
