What are you ‘I’m old’ references that younger folk might not understand ?
I’ll start: ‘too orangey for crows, it’s just for me and my dog’

That's handy, Harry - stick it in the oven.

UrsulaBelle · 08/06/2023 08:49

We had a clapping game that went,
'Under the bramble bushes,
Down by the sea,
We'll get married,
And start a fam il ee,
With a boy for you,
And a girl for me,
Oh so happy,
We shall be,
Under the bramble bushes,
Down by the sea.

Teenage Suzy Ooo, ah, I lost my bra, I left my knickers in my boyfriend's car.

Also a skipping song,
Not last night, but the night before,
24 robbers came knocking at my door.

As I went out, to let them in...

I loved all those rhymes as a kid. We had bramble bushes all around my playground too so we'd all go round eating the brambles as well 😄

NRFT so someone’s probably done this already…

-Milk? Urgh!
-It’s what Ian Rush drinks
-Ian Rush?
-Yeah and he says if I don’t drink lots of milk I’ll only be good enough to play for Akrington Stanley
-Akrington Stanley, who are they?
-Exactly!

Three six nine
The goose drank wine
The monkey went to heaven in a street car line
The line broke
They all got choked
And they all went to heaven in a little row boat
Clap clap

Loved Heads Down Thumbs up. It was wet a lot where I grew up!

Ladders we used to play at Guides a lot. Floor was always filthy. I'm amazed that more legs didn't get broken.

weemouse · 08/06/2023 09:33

Rita, Sue and Bob too

Yes! "Ummmmmm, I'm telling on you" was a thing at my school too. Don't think any of my DC ever said it.

It was more of an "aahhhhhhahhhh tellinnnnn" round here

The Crackerjack game was called Double or Drop - it was the best bit!

Crackerjack? Oooh I could crush a grape!

theblackradiator · 06/06/2023 23:46

yes I remember that song but can't remember the name of the cartoon it'll drive me mad now, let's hope someone comes up with it.
I'm thinking Jason and the argonauts though but I'm probably wrong.

It wasn't a cartoon, it was a show called chockablock, which had real presenters (Chockagirl and Chockabloke) who drove a little yellow truck and operated a big yellow machine.

They started each episode by saying Chockagirl checking in and ended with Chockagirl checking out.

It was always a good day when it was Chockagirl not Chockabloke

Oh.

That’s rather more innocent than our school trip songs.

JRHartleysmum · 08/06/2023 11:52

Talking of skipping do you remember double dutch , and you would get the mucky lines on your white socks from the skipping rope 😁 if it had been raining .

Wasn't that the amazing skipping craze in New York/USA that came to the UK? Malcolm McLaren did a song about it?
The athleticism and timing is just incredible and love this song!
