What are you ‘I’m old’ references that younger folk might not understand ?
I’ll start: ‘too orangey for crows, it’s just for me and my dog’

There's a voice keeps on calling me,
Down the road that's where I'm going to be...

A few years back I was discussing things that were popular with my class who were predominantly aged 18-19. I mentioned blow-up furniture... their minds were blown!

--They were also massively confused as to the point of it, and one asked me where on earth I grew up with trends like that

MaidOfSteel · 06/06/2023 20:54

Who had one of these for school?

Gen X where are you ????

Brian Cant the voice of our childhood

Playaway on a Saturday afternoon , and the wrestling . Mum was out shopping and Dad on babysitting duties .

fizzyfood · 06/06/2023 20:54

What will you give your old man with his steak house grill?

Leela2 · 06/06/2023 20:55

Oh god the jelly bag, that everything fell out of. Then came the jelly shoes, sweaty slippery cheesewires to the feet.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/06/2023 20:58

Go to work on an egg.

Hands that do dishes can be soft as your face with mild green Fairy liquid.

By golly it does you good.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 06/06/2023 20:58

Oh a fireman's a person in your neighbourhood
In your neighbourhood
In your neighbourhood
Yes a fireman's a person in your neighbourhood
He's a person that you meet each day

Orinoco, my favourite Womble, I had a poster of him. All voiced by the lovely Bernard Cribbins.

The Wombles of Wimbledon, common are we! 😂

Who had one of these for school?

Yes! Anyone remember the bun covers for your hair in the same style? They had a plastic pin to keep it on your hair. I remember my friend and I were over the park and someone came up behind us and stole it our my friend’s hair.

Talking of hair, remember the lovely smelling Flex shampoo? “For flex get flexibility”

MaidOfSteel · 06/06/2023 20:54

Who had one of these for school?

Yes me!

Also who remembers Cheeka-boos?! Those little monkeys that you clipped on to your curtains…

Amadeus, Amadeus, Amadeus… Rock me Amadeus!

AutisticLegoLover · 06/06/2023 21:09

Wil o' the wisp was great with that grouchy TV called Edna. Evil Edna!

ShoesoftheWorld · 06/06/2023 21:11

Oh, the 'it's not all work work work' guy (Barclays, was it?)! I keep wanting to say that to my teens and then remember they will have no. idea. whatsoever.

Nothing sparkles like a Babycham

Happiness is a cigar called Hamlet - the mild cigar (accompanied by Air on a G String, in the wrong key). On the subject of 'ads no longer allowed' - those double page spreads in Sunday supplements - for Silk Cut, maybe - with abstract images and the very mild warning ('cigarettes may damage your health') at the bottom of the page.

FullOfBiscuit · 06/06/2023 21:12

Yes Cheekaboos-they sucked their thumbs, I had a giant one.
Also Care Bears. Oh and those Wuzzles, “have you snuzzled a wuzzle today?”

ZosieTatien · 06/06/2023 21:12

Pacers? Like minty opal fruits. The ad had two people ice skating in stripey outfits.
I also loved Spangles but hated the Olde Engish flavour ones.

JRHartleysmum · 06/06/2023 21:12

Joey Deacon, bless him, on Blue Peter, and the relentless playground name calling that spawned

While we’re on about children’s TV - anyone else remember Willo The Wisp?

Yes! I used to love Evil Edna and draw her all over my school books!

Going right back in time, who remembers the ‘Make room for the Mushroooooms’ advert, with the marching cartoon mushrooms?

Leela2 · 06/06/2023 21:16

Bit of a weird one, but whatever happened to those tiny bright red spider things that used to swarm on brick walls? Not seen those for years and years.

STRIPES?!

Splcam · 06/06/2023 21:21

A few years ago, husband and I were having dinner in a Loch Fyne resturant and had a seafood platter selection thing. It had some langoustine on it. Well we finished it and I'd had, shall we say, an amount of wine. And when the waiter came to pick up the empties, I thought it would be hillllaaarious to put the discarded head and thorax of a langoustine on my finger and start singing 'Yoffy lifts a finger and a scampi darts about...these hands were made for making/and making they must do."

Poor lad must have been born around late 90s/2000 and hadn't got the foggiest idea what I was doing.

Sensibletrousers · 06/06/2023 21:21

Accrington Stanley??? Who are they???

Sensibletrousers · 06/06/2023 21:23
