Tv deaths that really got to you ***SPOILERS

I have just finished watching Sons of Anarchy and...

spoiler

Jax's death hit me harder than any tv death before! I think it was because there was so much meaning behind it and after watching multiple series you really feel like you know the characters (sign of a good show creator I guess)

Ned Stark is probably a close second, that was messed up.

What tv deaths have most upset you?

Please say someone remebers Sarah from hollyoaks? She died in hollyoaks later (please don’t judge my viewing standards) in a skydiving murder. It was utterly traumatising and brilliantly filmed. But no one I know seems to have any memory of it!

Yes, I remember.

Her friend (blonde) was framed for it, wasn't she? The friend was sleeping with/had slept with Sarah's father or something.

But yes, the skydiving accident. I remember it.

C1N1C · 03/06/2023 22:09

To all those saying Joyce in Buffy, what about Jenny Calendar???

Backatworkmum · 03/06/2023 22:10

Also does anyone remember Todd in Neighbours? Racing to stop Phoebe having an abortion

Mindovermatter247 · 03/06/2023 22:10

ER - Mark greene, even though we knew it was coming, it didn’t make it any easier.
Gregg Pratt - we just weren’t expecting it, one minute he was fine and then he 2as gone.

the good wife - will gardener …. Just why?
maxine from Waterloo road…. She’d just got her life back together before she was killed.

MindIfISlytherin · 03/06/2023 22:11

Missy Booth in Ackley Bridge broke me 😭

Also Mathew and Sybil in Downton, and Barbara in Call The Midwife. I actually rage quit Downton after they killed off Mathew in the CHRISTMAS SPECIAL OF ALL THINGS and haven't watched an episode since.

Yes that was horrific.

“oh god oh god oh my god somebody help me”

then her sister murdered by fucking Duncan from Blue. Bullshit.

Downsizeddumpling · 03/06/2023 22:12

The doctor on Holby who died having her brain tumour removed having not long been married.

Stan Ogden in Coronation Street. Later on - after the funeral during which she stayed quite composed - when Hilda comes across his specs and breaks down. Just a small very true moment; Coronation Street used to be so good at those.

I agree - Coronation Street at its finest, she acted it so well, it was quiet and unshowy but heartbreaking.

I agree with Adriana too.

Another Russell T Davies series, Cucumber. Cyril Nri and James Murray both amazing when Nri's character is murdered.

God yeah that was also horrifying, forgot about poor Jenny.

To all those saying Joyce in Buffy, what about Jenny Calendar???

Definitely. It was so brutal and out of the blue - the first inkling you had that no one on the show was safe. And the scene after with Buffy and Giles after she pulls him out of the burning factory - “I can’t do this without you!” 😭

I know he came back, but Buffy killing Angel in Becoming pt2 always gets me, SMG’s face and the Sarah whatshername song as she leaves Sunnydale makes me 😭😭😭😭

LollipopViolet · 03/06/2023 22:17

It's a film, but the ending of I, Daniel Blake.

I can't bring myself to rewatch it - knowing that it sadly happens in real life.

IHateLegDay · 03/06/2023 22:17

Bill and Frank - TLOU

GremlinDolphin4 · 03/06/2023 22:17

Rachel in Cold Feet. Absolutely traumatising! Just googled and it was 2003 so I had a toddler and my Dad died the previous year which might have all added to me remembering it so well.

gazpachosoupday · 03/06/2023 22:18

I am not sure if it counts but the last scene in Blackadder goes forth.

I refuse to watch it now because I end up crying

NooNakedJacuzziness · 03/06/2023 22:19

Bobby Ewing - Katherine Wentworth, you utter utter cowbag. Him and Pam had just got back together! Still pissed off about this.

AramintaLee · 03/06/2023 22:19

Sybil from Downton Abbey when she dies from eclampsia. I usually have to skip that episode when I rewatch because it's so traumatic. Brilliant acting all round though.

Chatillon · 03/06/2023 22:20

What tv deaths have most upset you?

Non-fictional.

The killing of the two corporals in Northern Ireland, March 1988. It was recorded, but not shown obviously, though their deaths were palpable.

Mumsnut · 03/06/2023 22:21

Chin Ho Kelly

Davestwattymissus · 03/06/2023 22:22

Elise in The Tunnel. Both DH and I just sat there afterwards stunned with tears running down our faces. And Karl saying "I've lost my friend"

Yes this was traumatic, The last scream...
You've reminded me of Rae on Hollyoaks, her death was a shock

Matthew in Downton! Nooo! Dan Stevens appeared on a books programme and completely rubbished my sister's new book, so nasty that she was devastated. We all rejoiced when he died a few weeks later on Downton! 😀

teanntoastinbed · 03/06/2023 22:25

I think it was the death of Ugly Betty's husband at the end of the first series...

Then at the beginning of the second series they made you believe he hasn't actually died, until the end of the first episode when you realised it was just his wife dreaming! 😭

tellermorrow · 03/06/2023 22:25

Also can't believe I forgot Freddie in skins, that was horrifying

muffinmclay22 · 03/06/2023 22:26
