DP doesn't get poo cramps

What's wrong with him? What's wrong with his body?

I'm not the weird one, right? Most people if they eat something their body doesn't entirely agree with get a crampy-feeling until it's all out right? Mine is after anything with too much dairy or fish and chips/other greasy takeaways.

He thinks he's the normal one and I'm the odd one. But I've never heard of anyone just not having poo cramps?! Are there people who just... need to have a poo? And that's it? Every time?

As I make yet another trip to the toilet I am awash with envy. Also I should probably just stop eating chocolate. Hmm

Suffering pain on a daily basis is certainly not normal OP.

I've only had "poo cramps" from food poisoning. Maybe twice in 65 years!

Get it investigated

ChickenMacaroni · 02/06/2023 13:41

I eat everything with reckless abandon and have never had poo cramps. I know I need a poo but it's not a crampy or uncomfortable feeling in any way.

Middleofitall · 02/06/2023 12:07

I get this plus awful colon aches afterwards recently too. I think I must have piles too as do really thin stools . Poo cramps are definitely a thing OP

Have you had a colonoscopy?

CatchHimDerry · 02/06/2023 13:41

@Middleofitall I see a PP has also commented… Gently, worth a GP visit if this is outside of usual for you

This has really surprised me.

I guess because it is a topic that isn't often talked about, as a pp said, if you have nothing to compare it to and you've never known anything different it's just normal.

I didn't actually know that you could not have pain and just go a regular amount no matter what you eat, even if that sounds stupid. I can't imagine it. I'd say if I had to think about it I'm probably in some form of gastro-related pain every day.

Yeah, I was similar. Didn’t realise it wasn’t ‘normal’ to not have some sort of gastro pain most days. My mum is the same… and as you say, we don’t talk about this with most people!
then I got referred to gastroenterologist by my GP and realised when he asked ‘how many bowels movements per day?’ That saying 6-10 wasn’t normal 😅

I would recommend trying to identify what might be causing this (as you said, food diary). I went gluten free and it has TRANSFORMED my life. Seriously. No more cramping, pain, etc .

IHateLegDay · 02/06/2023 13:43

DH doesn't get them either.
When I have a bad stomach, I get cramps so bad that it takes my breath away and I start sweating!

Get checked out - if its recent and the thin poos too - might be nothing but ‘ribbon stools’ can indicate something not so great

I don't actually think I've talked to that many people about it, I just assumed it was normal. My twin is also the same, so maybe there's a genetic link.

I do have a lot of unexplained vitamin deficiencies, my GP kept asking me if I was vegan because of my B12 and iron levels even when I would repeat I wasn't.

I'm actually glad I started this thread as maybe if I can figure out what food in particular is causing it then I won't have to feel like this anymore.

absorption problems leading to vitamin and iron deficiency are also classic celiac symptoms /side effect

IHateLegDay · 02/06/2023 13:45

Ok this thread has shocked me! I also thought it was normal with a bad stomach 😅 I had no idea other people don't get them and I'm in the minority.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/06/2023 13:47

addler · 02/06/2023 12:07

What?! It actually is me?

I guess it's just what I've always known so I assumed it was normal. Its always been that way.

Oh dear, I should probably do a proper food diary. And apologise to DP Blush

I felt like that when I realised I had tinnitus, don't feel bad. I just thought noises in my ear were normal

But yes, I get cramps after certain foods, I have ibs.

Remaker · 02/06/2023 13:47

@Middleofitall another voice urging you to please go to the dr. Thin poo can be a sign of something serious.

OP I think your symptoms are also worth a visit to the GP.

whydoidothistomyself · 02/06/2023 13:48

I used to think everyone felt like they were getting stabbed in the stomach when they needed the loo. Turns out I’m coeliac.

Fandabedodgy · 02/06/2023 13:50

I've never heard of poo cramps before.

Sorry that doesn't sound very nice.

LakieLady · 02/06/2023 13:51

I've had poo cramps 3 times in nearly 68 years. The first time was when I had campylobacter, the second was when I had norovirus and the third was the other day, and I can't pinpoint a cause for that (although they may have been triggered by eating an entire large bag of cheese Doritos over the course of the preceding day Blush).

So many people piling on saying it's IBS. Unless OP has other symptoms it's not!

It's like a mild intolerence that causes no effects bar some mild-ish cramping. Part an parcel of life and no need to go running to the GP if it's causing no distress ffs.

Regular gastrointestinal pain is not "part and parcel of life". We're omnivorous animals and when healthy we should be able to handle a vast range of different foods with no ill effects (with maybe a little time to habituate to any new and very different diet). It's bizarrely dismissive to describe consulting a medical professional about persistent GI pain and discomfort, in combination with significant deficiencies, as "running to the GP".

The only thing I agree with you on is that people shouldn't confidently state it's IBS. It could be a lot of different things. Like others, I thought coeliac disease might be a possibility — I was diagnosed with coeliac disease when the GP tested me for it almost as an afterthought, when I had some thyroid issues. I hadn't mentioned my long-standing minor GI issues to him, because a couple of decades earlier I'd been told it was just IBS, live with it. Turns out my coeliac blood test was literally off-the-scale positive, my intestines were razed virtually flat, and I had multiple mineral deficiencies, resulting in permanently thinned and vulnerable bones, in my thirties.

"Running to the GP" 🙄 What do you think they're for?!

off · 02/06/2023 13:55

Sorry, *multiple vitamin and mineral deficiencies

mydogisthebest · 02/06/2023 13:56

Yes I get them if I have cow's milk and sometimes cheese. Eggs often cause it too but only usually if the yolk is still soft such as boiled eggs and fried eggs. Scrambled egg and hard boiled egg don't normally affect me.

Verv · 02/06/2023 13:58

I've never had poo cramps, but I have had poo's that have triggered MASSIVE OVULATION CRAMPS if im mid cycle.
They're horrendous and give me pain sweats

BumpyaDaisyevna · 02/06/2023 13:59

Afraid it's you. I do know what a poo cramp is but only get it when ill with d and v.

Normally I just get the "I need a poo" feeling and off I go. 10 secs later all done.

NeuroticAndroid · 02/06/2023 13:59

If I order mushrooms, sometimes I get Shitake. Does this count?

Ginandrosemary · 02/06/2023 13:59

When I had IBS I used to. My IBS has settled down as I've aged and now I don't get cramps. I used to think the same as you!

BlackFlyChardonnay · 02/06/2023 14:01

I only get poo cramps on day one of my period.

IanFromAccounting · 02/06/2023 14:01

Agree with others. I need a poo, and go for a poo.

I only get cramps with overindulgence (especially an excess of dairy or shitloads of processed carbs), or genuine illness/food poisoning.

IanFromAccounting · 02/06/2023 14:02

Oh yes and also with my period but everything just hurts then 😂

OnlyFannys · 02/06/2023 14:02

I used to get stomach pains and it turned out I was lactose intolerant, no more pains now I avoid dairy (arla have a wonderful range of lacto free dairy products though so all hope is not lost 😁)
