As the question says. In a normal week.

@Thepleasureofyourcompany weird isn't it? I have no idea why it affects me so badly but I always regret it when I'm tossing and turning all night lol

Tygertiger · 30/05/2023 19:03

About two bottles a week, over the weekend. Or half a bottle and some beers/G&T. It’s probably 18-20 units a week. If I’m on holiday I’ll drink every day. Tbh everyone in my social circle drinks the same amount. I know it’s too much according to govt guidelines but I feel absolutely fine and I have three or four alcohol-free days a week unless on holiday (2 or three times a year) and I enjoy it. So it’s hard to find the incentive to cut down, but I know I “should” do.

Denise82 · 30/05/2023 19:04

Nothing really, I only drink low alcohol or non alcohol sparkling wine or beer.

I love these threads! So not my experience of any body I know in real life! Maybe people who drink don't like to fess up?
I drink about three bottles of wine a week, which is fairly standard with the people I know. Some drink more, sone a bit less. Don't know anyone who doesn't drink at all (or manages to have one bottle last the whole weekend).
I have a couple periods a year where I don't drink at all, Lent and when I try and go on a pre holiday diet!

Same as you Tyger as are most of my friends.

@mondaytosunday maybe I'm just older ? I'm 40 and I'd say years ago I loved a good drink but I just can't be bothered, it makes me fat and tired lol

I was about to say the same thing. MN is renowned for competitive under-drinking.

Probably about 3 bottles a week, more than I 'should' but I'm not concerned. And yeah, most people I know drink similar. It's only on MN that people seem not to drink!

Thepleasureofyourcompany · 30/05/2023 19:11

I'm 57 and hate the insomnia and groggy feeling more than I like wine nowadays. I used to drink a good three bottles a week. Too much

Mysticlou · 30/05/2023 19:13

None now. But I was a five bottle a week drinker and worse.
It really effected my life. There is a great thread on MN if anyone needs support giving up. Kind people, funny comments and no judgement.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 30/05/2023 19:22

In a typical week, DH and I meet at the pub straight after work on a Friday and we'll have either three or five drinks - the fourth - or sixth - "round" will be fish and chips on the walk home.

On holiday it's all about the Aperol 😋

Don't generally drink at home.

InFiveMins · 30/05/2023 19:26

I don't drink Sun-Thurs but most weeks I'll drink Friday night and Saturday night.

Itssnotunusual · 30/05/2023 19:26

Maybe 1-2 pints on a Saturday when I go to watch the local rugby team play but that will teeter off now as the season is over for summer. I do drink them as shandy's though.

On the (very rare) occasion I go out a fair bit more but never enough to get blackout drunk or feels too crap the next day. I play it safe and if I feel like I'm drunk I tend to have water/ soft drinks from that point onwards.

IFeelSoSoSad · 30/05/2023 19:27

I don’t drink regularly because I don’t enjoy the hangover, or taste , or the crappy sleep I get after a drink or two. I will have a drink socially every few months, but to be honest I am just tolerating it for the anti anxiety effect I need in the company of others.

Blottingpaperscript · 30/05/2023 19:29

We share a bottle of fizz on Fridays - none the rest of the week.

AlloftheTime · 30/05/2023 19:30

ArcticBells · 30/05/2023 17:38

Same here. I'm so relieved to have given it up.

Same here - relief is liberating

Not "only on MN"
Where do you think all the people who are on MN are all the rest of the time ? Hmm

Generally people mix with others who are 'like them' - who operate in the same way as themselves.
Lots of people don't drink every week, despite it being beyond the realms of your imagination.

maddiemookins16mum · 30/05/2023 19:31

Now: none.
In my previous life as an alcoholic - 8 bottles of wine (normally over a concentrated period of 3 days).
It was truly awful.

Gazumper · 30/05/2023 19:31

Zero. I don’t feel the need or want to drink alcohol.

BeverlyHa · 30/05/2023 19:32

SIMPLY DON'T.

EmeraldFox · 30/05/2023 19:35

I don't drink every week. I drink one or two bottles of dry cider at home, or a half or two at a pub, probably on average once a month.

TheShellBeach · 30/05/2023 19:36

Maybe a glass of sherry twice a week.
Occasionally a gin and tonic.

doitwithlove · 30/05/2023 19:37

1-2 glasses a night, anymore than that and I get hangover symptom's 😩

MathsNervous · 30/05/2023 19:38

None at all. Can't with the medication I am on.

Lioney · 30/05/2023 19:39

None.

I rarely drink. Many Christmas' and birthdays pass and I wouldn't have an alcoholic drink.
