What did you do for your 40th?

Mine is coming up and I can't decide what to do.

Funds are reasonable but we don't have childcare options so probably need to do something kid-friendly (both DC under 5).

What did you do? Grateful for any inspiration!

Went to chester zoo. I do love a good zoo and had never been before

Fairgroundride · 28/05/2023 19:50

Had a baby. Probably not enough time to fit that in though, unless you are a very early planner.

Kfjsjdbd · 28/05/2023 19:54

Centre Parcs? And have some spa time for you then nice time with the kids and champagne in the lodge?

MrsSiriusBlack1 · 28/05/2023 19:56

I had a party with all my family and friends, kids had a ball lol 😁

2chocolateoranges · 28/05/2023 19:57

i had a birthday lunch out with mum and the kids who were 14 and 12 at the time, A couple of days later I had a party with all my nearest and dearest. Approx 70people, I’d never had a birthday party before and really enjoyed myself.

Gotobloodysleep · 28/05/2023 19:57

Dh and I went to Iceland for a long weekend. Spent my 40th in the blue lagoon. Was lovely

AvonCallingBarksdale · 28/05/2023 19:59

DH and I had a joint party then spent about the next year eking out celebrations - we got some lovely “experience” type presents so stretched those out!

Thesunwillcomeoutverysoon · 28/05/2023 20:01

Tinytigertail · 28/05/2023 20:04

We went to Marrakech with some friends for my 40th. My birthday is in Feb, so the bonus of some sunshine was lovely!

BarelyLiterate · 28/05/2023 20:05

I’m not a party person at all, so me & DP had a weekend away, just the two of us, including dinner at a Michelin starred restaurant. It was lovely.

froomeonthebroom · 28/05/2023 20:11

Rented the whole of YHA Conwy with all my friends and family and had a brilliant weekend away.

CirreltheSquirrel · 28/05/2023 20:36

I went to Rome to watch the final stage of the giro d'italia with my OH (2018 not this year!) and booked a holiday cottage in the north Yorkshire Moors for a weekend away with my dad/sister/nephews.

Owlglasses · 28/05/2023 20:37

DH took me to Glasgow where we stayed in the Malmaison Hotel. I remember fantastic art galleries, lovely restaurants and bars and he bought me a pair of fantastic pink suede towering Dolce and Gabbana heels. I felt like the absolute cats pyjamas.

Redglitter · 28/05/2023 20:39

I loved my 40th

Went for a family lunch to a very posh hotel
Mum & Dad had a supper for my Godparents, Aunts Uncles etc
Had a meal out with my closest friends
A long weekend in a suite at a hotel I'd loved since I was a child

My 40th was my best ever birthday

mamaduckbone · 28/05/2023 20:47

Went camping for the weekend in a remote campsite in the Peak District just with Dh and the dc - I had a new tent and wellies for my birthday. We went to a festival later in the summer (Camp Bestival) which was my actual 40th birthday treat / celebration - it was great!

Dressshelp · 28/05/2023 20:49

I loved my 40th as it was in lockdown and it took ALL the pressure off me celebrating! My birthday after was a weekend in Venice which was incredible too though.

Urgsleepmoresleep · 28/05/2023 20:49

Was supposed to be touring round India - but lockdown happened. Garden party with 6 friends instead

Marsyas · 28/05/2023 20:50

Hired a bar and DJ and had a party. I can't actually remember who looked after the kids who would have been 8 and 6, as all my family and friends would have been at the party. Possibly we booked their old nursery key person who sometimes babysat.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 28/05/2023 20:51

Party in one lively bar and tapas in nearby restaurant.

SummerSimmer · 28/05/2023 20:51

I had a party 4 days before my birthday and then flew to LA for three nights on the actual day with my DH and DC, we went to Disney. Then we went on a cruise to the Pacific side of Mexico.

Nandocushion · 28/05/2023 20:53

Ran a marathon in another country. Not sure I recommend the marathon part but it was a great holiday.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 28/05/2023 20:55

Went to my favourite restaurant and saw Harry Styles on his first solo tour.
It was exactly what I wanted

CointreauVersial · 28/05/2023 20:56

DH sprung a surprise party on me....all my friends and family at a local golf club. I thought we were just going out for dinner.

As if that wasn't enough, he revealed at the party that he'd booked us a week in the Maldives - had sorted childcare for the DCs and even booked my jabs. What a hero. He is still dining out on it, 16 years later. 😆

Moredarkchocolateplease · 28/05/2023 20:58

Lunch with DH in a Michelin restaurant in London.

I didn't want any mention of the birthday or presents or anything. Just a nice boozy lunch.

Sayhellolikethis · 28/05/2023 20:59

I regret not doing anything better for mine!! We used spa vouchers we’d been given previously. The spa used to be fancy, but is now really dated, so it was a bit meh.

Then we had lunch at a fancy, very expensive hotel where the food is weird and not what I’d actually want to eat. Totally my choice, I’m annoyed at myself for not actually looking at a menu beforehand 🤦🏼‍♀️

DH is not a planner. I should have booked something else.
