What did you do for your 40th?

Mine is coming up and I can't decide what to do.

Funds are reasonable but we don't have childcare options so probably need to do something kid-friendly (both DC under 5).

What did you do? Grateful for any inspiration!

Ent to London, stayed in a posh hotel and went tot he theatre and out for dinner.

At the last min a friend was able to come with me.

My 30th was spent on the back or a Harley Davidson in Western Australia, not an ideal thing to do with small children.

For my 50th I went to a Michelin starred restaurant.

So I'm not really good for ideas with small children.

How about doing something nice and child friendly in the day, visit a zoo or petting farm, trampoline park anything to get the kids worn out.

Do bath and bed for the children and then have a private chef arrive to cook you an evening meal? Prices vary by food and where you live but start at about £50 pp.

Mine was supposed to be a long weekend in Barcelona but my ex friend highjacked it for her bachelorette weekend (I'm getting married! Let's do this every year, oh do fuck off). For a second marriage that only lasted 18 months ...

Had a 40's 40 party - hired our local Little Big Band to play Glen Miller, etc and the local Parish Hall. Invited friends & family to come in fancy dress & bring their own booze and we provided a buffet. Minimal decoration as they didn't have much in 40's - paper chains made by the kids, couple of balloons & masking tape on the windows.

Children (3 & 6 at the time) stayed up too & our friends brought their kids. Everyone loved the music and we danced the night away. T'was fab

I had mine during lockdown,
Had a walk with a friend at lunchtime and an illegal visit to my exh for a couple of drinks in the evening with his wife and our young son.

It was a brilliant day, I had the day before told my abusive partner to leave so it was a new beginning 😊

TheFutureIs · 29/05/2023 11:29

Had a party at home and got a tattoo

We were due back from Florida just a few days before my 40th so I thought we wouldn't be doing much, maybe just a family meal out.
DH surprised me by booking a weekend break at a child friendly hotel so we could celebrate with DC1 12 and DC2 8

Ah right, I was wondering if it was Matchbox 20 in Toronto as I'd kill to go!

StiggyZardust · 29/05/2023 14:00

Sat at DHs bedside. He had his appendix out on my 40th.

Went to Mykonos

Penguin34 · 29/05/2023 20:33

Mine is in the summer. I've hired a bar that's usually closed on Sundays, it's also over 25s normally so having it on a Sunday means kids can come. Got a dj and grazing boards then curly fries coming out at 11pm.
Party is 6pm 12pm
Music is 90s pop, garage, funky house, Ibiza classics then prodigy.
Just MY music only and I can't wait!
It's a min spend £1000 inc food the dj on top.
I have a toddler so she'll be leaving about 9 then mummy's going to party like it's 1999

I cannot wait

Penguin34 · 29/05/2023 20:34

A few days later I'm going for a long weekend to Barcelona with one of my best friends, before that a festival with some others and Ibiza in September.

On the actual day will be doing something lovely with my husband and little girl

dizzygirl1 · 29/05/2023 20:48

Mine is soon. I have teenagers and separated 3 years ago, still single so nothing planned.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 25/10/2023 03:30

I went to my favourite Michelin starred restaurant for lunch and I went to see Harry Styles on tour.
It was exactly what I wanted to do and I loved it, 6 years ago and it was amazing.
I always pay for my own birthday to do what I want, this year I'm going to London to take part in "Let Women Speak", and seeing Phantom of the Opera later that day.

LightDrizzle · 25/10/2023 03:32

Went to Istanbul. Loved that place and could happily have lived there for couple of years in my fantasy parallel life.

I dumped the children for it though 😂

Funderthighs · 25/10/2023 06:20

I went out for dinner & then on to Laser Quest with a group of Mum friends. It was great fun. We ended up having a huge battle with a group of Uni students. We won!

Mumaway · 25/10/2023 06:39

We managed to ditch out kids and went to Vegas and renewed our vows with Elvis, but if that's not on the cards, then Centerparcs, and book the kids into one of the parent-free activities and get in the spa with DP for the morning. Lovely.

gettingolderbutcooler · 25/10/2023 15:01

Rented a community hall in Pentonville road, did our own music, booze and food and had a big happy party!

Justonemorecoffeeplease · 25/10/2023 16:11

I went to a cottage in the Lake District with my family and my friend’s family. It’s through her I met my husband. Luckily my birthday is in October half term so we were away all week. An extra bonus is as I was teaching until last thing Friday - everyone else drove up I got the train and enjoyed a sneaky G&T. The actual day I climbed a big hill in the pouring rain followed by dinner in a pub. 😆
