What did you do for your 40th?

Mine is coming up and I can't decide what to do.

Funds are reasonable but we don't have childcare options so probably need to do something kid-friendly (both DC under 5).

What did you do? Grateful for any inspiration!

Girlie weekend in Bath.

Then, a party with friends/family - probs about 100 guests and I was V drunk!! 🤣

DH was recovering from cancer treatment so we booked a beautiful cottage in a lovely village and just chilled out, it was such a blissful/emotional experience, at the time we weren’t sure if his treatment would be successful, that was 11 and a half years ago & my amazing DH is still with us.

We took the kids away for a long weekend. Really nice oldy worldly kid friendly hotel. We had a blast.

I'm 40 in September, currently planning a couple of days at chessington theme park and staying at their hotel and I've sent dh a wish list from Prada. Next year I'm going to Ibiza with some girl friends as we're all 40 within a few months of each other and then in October it's Disney world. Excited for it all and definitely eeking it out as long as possible! I'll also have a few beauty procedures done like Botox and some filler a few weeks before.

I had a long weekend in New York with my two best girl friends. DH was a star and did all the wrap-around logistics. DC were 7, 5 and 3 at the time.

Nothing. Fuss about birthdays properly stops at age 21. Then ignore.

Weekend away at a cabin with a hot tub and on the day itself dinner in a country pub with dc plus ds1’s partner. It was lovely and I definitely preferred 40 to 30.

Went to Thailand. For my actual birthday we were in Bangkok, went to the grand palace and a few of the wats, then dinner in sala rim naam at the oriental hotel.

Dh & I went to York for the night. I also celebrated with friends by going for afternoon tea and a few cocktails.

Many on MN would disapprove but I had a party at a rugby club with lots of family and friends. My dC were 11 and 8 and they came too. There was a dj, I had a professionally made cake, free bar for guests, dancing etc. I had such a nice time. My pics from there are some of my favourite pics ever. On my actual 40th birthday (around a week later) my dad found cancer had come back again and it was nice to have a memory of him there before his health deteriorated.

We had a long weekend in Lisbon and drank too much white port. 34+6 weeks later my (now) 18 year old DD was born.

My best friend and I had a 40th birthday event once a month for 12 months in 2018. Included theatre trips, city breaks, events with my children, more events without, alpaca trekking and was in DLP on my actual 40th, with the children. Now saving for the next big birthday!

It was just at the end of lockdown so we went to a nice restaurant and sat outside. Got married later that year.

Had a meal out with close friends and family on the day. Few days later had cocktail bar evening in nearby city with girl friends then had a Caribbean holiday with DP the following week for ten days.
