Complete wankers and the poster who used the 'boomer' insult is a wanker too.
I really wish sometimes that the whole bloody human race was wiped from the face of the earth.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see some sort of anti-human eco-terrorism soon.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 25/05/2023 20:01

I've been at the HCFS (couldn't get time off for Chelsea) in a wildlife conservation charity stand - I have never been so busy with the large numbers of visitors all wanting to hear about ways to support native wildlife in their (probably extremely large) gardens and, in some cases, their literal estates and huge workplaces. They wanted to hear about why it was so important, details of how to identify/tell the difference, understand life cycles, what to allow to grow, what to plant, what not to use, what to leave alone. If only a quarter of the people I spoke to in that time made one change, that's done more to actually help than some knobs with a penchant for appearing in the media.

Itdoesnthavetobejusrol · 25/05/2023 20:05

well I just took a look at their protest and they were quite careful nor to destroy the garden- they sprinkled the powder on the floor so it wasnt that bad at all

Exactly. They've targeted the completely wrong demographic here. I feel desperately sorry for the poor designer and the others that will have worked so hard on that garden.

Stunts like this just make them all look like a bunch of twats and turns people off their cause.

BonnieBobbin · 25/05/2023 20:08

They're not eco-activists. Their every interview shows they don't really understand the issues. They are spoiled brats that confuse being arses with being activists. They are setting every eco-cause back by decades. And of course they're too smug to actually listen to any of the people who have been campaigning on these issues for years.

I heard that they were saying that there is no point in having a garden that doesn’t provide food. The garden they vandalised was a sustainable garden and many of the gardens will be dismantled and rebuilt elsewhere. I also think that a garden can provide balm to the soul and its a pleasure to see beautiful flowers.

Growing fruit and vegetables is important, of course, but not everyone is able to do that.

I see little point in doing something that antagonises the people that you presumably want to get on side.

That's the point. That garden does provide food - just not for humans, that's all. All gardens and green spaces are havens for wildlife, and we need to encourage that as much as possible.

In a world without bees pollinating food plants (for instance), the human food chain would collapse within a few months and we'd all starve.

These low-life protesters have no clue. They just enjoy anarchy for the sake of it, and any old 'cause' will do.

So what are you doing to put pressure on politicians to phase out fossil fuel use that is the main driver of climate change? Answer the question.

How’s your fossil fuel use then?

Take it you’ve never benefited from them in running your “carbon neutral” business, which sounds like a load of rubbish by the way.

people banging on about a climate crisis tend to be the biggest hypocrites out there

I recommend blood pressure medication to some people on this thread.

What about the cost to the environment from pharmaceutical manufacturers?

Prescottdanni123 · 25/05/2023 19:59

@CheeseTouch

You keep repeating non violent direct action as if that makes it OK. They were still causing emotional harm to someone who put time and energy into making that garden. The people gluing themselves to roads aren't being directly violent but they are slowing down ambulances transporting very sick people. Violence isn't the only way to harm someone.

You know what causes me emotional harm?

Watching baby polar bears fall through ice that should be thicker, whilst David Attenborough gently narrates.

Everyone’s different I guess.

IpswichPaula · 25/05/2023 20:17

😂

The6thQueen · 25/05/2023 20:17

I know it feels counterproductive, but this is how minorities bring about influence. They are raising awareness of their cause and demonstrating just how committed they are to it. The suffragettes did very similar things (and we called similar names to the language on this thread) - https://www.bl.uk/votes-for-women/articles/suffragettes-violence-and-militancy

The civil rights movement in America, had the press depict them as criminals etc, much like the climate protestors are depicted as posh, and stupid and the great unwashed.

Human beings don’t like change. From an evolutionary perspective agreement would have increased a group/tribes etc.’s survival.

I’m not saying the actions of the protestors are right, or that I agree, but they are not as unexplainable as they seem. Nor is the majority’s response unexpected.

Most social change has met with similar resistance for a time.

I think the vast majority of environmentalists want the planet to survive to house us humans and the reality of this species being the one and only cause is lost on most people.

whynotwhatknot · 25/05/2023 20:24

I dont know anyone who agrees with them anymore

fuckwits

RhinoMoveFast · 25/05/2023 20:34

I don't know anyone who likes them.

They are a doomsday cult.

I answer the questions of people like you but you don’t answer mine. I’ll ask you again… What actions are YOU taking to phase out fossil fuel use?

The business has been reworked to use as little fossil fuel (and water) as possible. It is important to actively reduce carbon usage, not just rely on purchasing carbon offsets. This involved investment in solar, insulation, green tech, and paid back massively for our finances when the energy crisis unexpectedly hit and our electricity contract came up for renewal.

We still use some fossil fuels because the infrastructure hasn’t been built yet that would allow us to eliminate it. This is why we need governments to commit to the investment needed to phase out fossil fuels.

I don’t want to say exactly what we do, but carbon is stored in soils and sea beds, and plants capture carbon by converting atmospheric carbon dioxide into biomass via photosynthesis. Yes there are dodgy offsets, but the best ones are where you create your own, or those that are in a place you can visit, are offered by a business you know and trust.

Good post @The6thQueen

Human beings don’t like change.

And this is so true, humans often fear change. But it can be positive.

Their tactics are showing results.
😉😉

They certainly are showing results. But are they the results they wanted I wonder.

AnarchoTyrannosaurus · 25/05/2023 21:09

What actions are YOU taking to phase out fossil fuel use?

Nothing. I'm actively doing my best to increase it.

Damnspot · 25/05/2023 21:11

I like them. I'm glad there are.people doing annoying shit like this to try and stop us being so terrifyingly complacent about climate change.

caringcarer · 25/05/2023 21:15

Damnspot · 25/05/2023 19:47

I don't think they 'ruined' anyone's day did they?

Good for them. I think their stunts are funny and they are quite brave for doing it. I have no interest in the CFS and I rather like things that incense Telegraph readers.

A ladies son died and she could not get to his body because they were blocking the road. I don't think that is funny and find it odd that you do.

Today? That didn't happen today. I'm talking about the CFS.

Hawkins0001 · 25/05/2023 21:20

From a legal perspective, could any protesters that are detained, could they be processed eg in another country but at eg a British embassy , then released from that embassy in x country ?

"We have to note that the trope of derided protesters selfishly killing an innocent victim by blocking an ambulance is a common one in recent years — it popped up in July 2016 in reference to Black Lives Matter protesters, and it typically follows the familiar pattern of an anonymous social media report lacking in detail claiming that a highly sympathetic victim (e.g., a child in need of a transplant or the parent of a young child) was killed by the actions of uncaring protesters, all accompanied by an unrelated image of a protest in some unidentified location"
