How can people not like....

I just ate a delicious orange, and I found myself wondering "How can people not like oranges? They are practically perfect in every way" although I'm the only person in my house that likes them. They all like bananas though, the weirdos! What food do you feel like that about? Not a meal (although Dan Dan Noodles....." but a single food item.

Peppermint - absolutely foul.

I love a good orange! I read somewhere that oranges were no longer popular because of the effort involved in peeling them!

I used to rarely eat oranges because of the peeling, then discovered you don't have to. Just cut them into segments and eat them off the skin. Life changing!

MyMachineAndMe · 25/05/2023 00:15

I've never met anyone who doesn't like toast. There is only one person I know who doesn't like Yorkshire puddings.

I don't dislike oranges but I don't really ever eat them or any other fruit.

ALongHardWinter · 25/05/2023 01:40

I'm not keen on oranges as I don't like the pith.
The food I love and can't understand others not liking is green olives. People seem to either love them or detest them.

In our house it's avocado and coffee.

Savoury or dessert? It doesn't sound very appetising to me.

😀

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/05/2023 02:10

Every now and again a bowl of white rice with butter and s&p.
Toast, tomato, evoo, fresh basil.
Pasta, cottage cheese, and tomato if I have it.
And occasionally fresh oj and if flying tomato juice (or even better, clamato juice!).

What about pears? Food of Satan.
A 5 minute window when they're vaguely edible if you try and ignore the stringy bits. Before that crucial 5 minutes they need you leaving dental surgery, and afterwards you need a glass to drink the brown slush from.

It depends what type of pears you get.

Not the 5-minutes-if-you're-lucky period where they are ripe but not rotten as i think that applies to all pears, but the taste and texture of the ripe ones.

Bartlett pears at the point of ripeness are juicy, sweet, and not remotely stringy.

Aria999 · 25/05/2023 02:23

My son doesn't like meringues.

Or cheese.

🤷‍♀️

Groutyonehereagain · 25/05/2023 03:47

I love garlic, how can you not?

kettlebellchips · 25/05/2023 04:11

Cheese. Something off about people who don’t like cheese

crispinglovershighkick · 25/05/2023 04:33

Eggs in virtually any and every form - cooked any way or as an ingredient in mayo and custard, whipped to leaven cakes, meringues and soufflés etc. I love the taste and texture and never tire of them.

Leapintothelightning · 25/05/2023 04:40

Oh I can't stand eating an orange! Love the flavour but just will not eat the actual fruit. I don't like the look/feel of the pith so I take a good half hour peeling that all off before I will entertain eating one.

SinnerBoy · 25/05/2023 04:41

Coo, I love meringue!

CurlewKate · 25/05/2023 04:51

@Mumtobabyhavoc Russell T Davis talked about his favourite recipe on the radio. It's called Lemon Butter Rice. Can you guess how you make it?🤣

@CurlewKate yeah, something about a bowl of starchy carbs...😋😋😋😋
just finished a bowl of beautiful strawberries and an ungodly amount of cheese (Monterey jack, Swiss, gouda and old cheddar). God, I love food.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/05/2023 09:03

I love oranges but often don't bother at work as they are a pain to peel and eat then I feel conscious of getting out of my seat to go wash my hands etc. I feel really guilty that I used to get my mum to peel them for me until I moved out at the age of 22 🙈

Meet my mum. She absolutely hates it, even the smell of it. She won't have it, or anything with it in the house, the weird woman.

OldTinHat · 25/05/2023 09:36

Brains Faggots are the BEST comfort food but I don't know anyone outside my family who love them as much as me.

Parsnips. Who can not love a parsnip?!

I like faggots, but prefer haggis.

I love black pudding and also brawn - my mother used to make wonderful brawn - but a lot of people seem to be squicked by both.

Does anyone ever eat grapefruit?

Me 😁 I love it.

Awful.

Piony · 25/05/2023 10:28

This whole thread reads like a catalogue of foods one or other of my lot won't eat. Apart from the Marmite. DD is firmly on the fence about Marmite.

I don't think of them as fussy but perhaps I'm kidding myself!

Hottoffeesauce · 25/05/2023 10:32

Gherkins! Oooh, I love 'em! 😁

A slightly under ripe banana is absolutely delicious. Celery is Satan's vegetable 😫

Especially Colombian bananas, they're lovely.

And yep, celery is just bloody awful! 🤢
