How can people not like....

I just ate a delicious orange, and I found myself wondering "How can people not like oranges? They are practically perfect in every way" although I'm the only person in my house that likes them. They all like bananas though, the weirdos! What food do you feel like that about? Not a meal (although Dan Dan Noodles....." but a single food item.

@3luckystars and @beguilingeyes Yes, we do exist I’m afraid 😞 Not by choice for me but was something that has creeped up over the years and now I can’t cope with it. Every time I try and eat it, I get a burning sensation in my throat. It’s a horrible feeling.

mrschocolatte · 24/05/2023 09:50

I do like a big juicy orange though. I cannot abide a fuzzy peach. Makes me shudder just looking at one.

Senseofnopurpose · 24/05/2023 09:54

I once met someone who didn't like Marmite, I kid you not.

Eckyftang · 24/05/2023 09:55

I love the flavour but am allergic to the pith.

IHeartGeneHunt · 24/05/2023 10:01

I love the little satsumas at Christmas but I can't eat big oranges, it's the texture of the skin round the segments, I can't swallow it.

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 24/05/2023 10:02

My IBS is inwardly screaming at the very thought of consuming 10-15 blood oranges in a day!! Not to mention the horrific heartburn..

Mutabiliss · 24/05/2023 10:04

I really dislike oranges. They have a sour scent to me, and the taste has a bit of an unpleasant tang. I love clementines though.

For me it's vinegar. I love it, my partner hates it and I don't understand why. It makes ordering salad very difficult as everything always has balsamic on it!

mondaytosunday · 24/05/2023 10:05

Love oranges! But so often they are chewy and lacking in flavour and juiciness.

Rubyupbeat · 24/05/2023 10:15

Potatoes, sorry. But they are delicious in every way they are cooked, plus delicious from tiny Jersey royals to giant jacket potatoes.
Beetroot to me is the food of Satan. The smell alone has me gagging, yuk!

CadburyDream · 24/05/2023 10:18

No I’m not keen on oranges… too stringy

No I’m not keen on oranges… too stringy

Cut them in half, put them in a dish and scoop the segments out with a serrated grapefruit spoon. That way you'll eat the flesh but leave the stringy bits (which are a good source of fibre but I know not everyone likes them).

SorryButThatsAFact · 24/05/2023 10:32

Eugh!

Oranges are the Devil's arse nuggets.

Just the smell of one makes me want to vomit.

dudsville · 24/05/2023 10:35

Oranges that are actually ripe are amazing, but citrus hurts my teeth. I miss oranges.

I ate a banana on a bus the other day and my seat mate covered her nose with her top. It was only just ripe. People hate what they hate!

spuddel · 24/05/2023 10:38

I feel that way about spinach. So utterly delicious I could eat five bowls of the stuff yet dh and ds balk at the mention of it. I should be built like popeye now, sadly not though.

I feel revulsion at very few foods although not a fan of the usual suspects like liver, tripe and kidneys.

Gtsr443 · 24/05/2023 10:41

Mushrooms. I eat them raw and dip them in houmous. Pure heaven.

cptartapp · 24/05/2023 10:44

You couldn't pay me to eat an orange, in fact I don't like most fruits. I do like bananas, and strawberries and raspberries at a push but rarely on the whole, eat any fruit.

DeadButDelicious · 24/05/2023 10:44

Sprouts. I love a good Brussel sprout. Roasted, boiled, steamed, I like them a bit crunchy I like them a bit soft. Just delicious. Also Garlic, how can people not like garlic! Garlic along with its spiritual companion, cheese, makes everything better.

I don't like bananas, horrible things, I'm not keen on raw tomato's, cooked is fine but raw I have to hold my nose and power through. Celery is disgusting. My DD doesn't like jam or haribo, this makes birthday parties a bit difficult.

AlisonDonut · 24/05/2023 10:45

What about pears? Food of Satan.
A 5 minute window when they're vaguely edible if you try and ignore the stringy bits. Before that crucial 5 minutes they need you leaving dental surgery, and afterwards you need a glass to drink the brown slush from.

Pears yes.

Nashi pears though. Oh my goodness. So crisp. So fresh. And don't go over in 10 minutes.

I eat an orange a day usually. Sometimes 2. I stash them in my shed at the top of the garden and put my feet up in the afternoon and start peeling.

ThreeRingCircus · 24/05/2023 10:46

I like the flavour of oranges but not the chewy/stringy texture so usually don't risk it.

I love bananas though, and mushrooms! DH absolutely hates mushrooms with a passion which is a great shame as they are cheap, healthy and delicious! Oh well, more mushrooms for me.

Btrsun10 · 24/05/2023 10:50

Oranges are the best fruit there is.
Pears and celery are disgusting.

queenatom · 24/05/2023 10:59

Really don't rate oranges! So much work and too often I've found them dry and chewy,

Absolute dream food for me is a ripe nectarine, when they're in season I have to resist eating a punnet a day.

Baneofmyexistence · 24/05/2023 10:59

Completely agree about the unpredictability! I can’t really eat fresh fruit because it has to be exactly right for me to able to eat it and it’s a waste when they aren’t! I stick with tinned fruit, you know what you are getting then!

Otherland · 24/05/2023 11:00

EvilElsa · 24/05/2023 08:26

Love an orange. I like cutting them with the peel on best rather than peeling them first.
Hate bananas! The texture makes me feel nauseous. Dh hates mashed potato which blows my mind as it's a food of the gods. He's the only person I know who hates it. This is a man who would eat tuna on crumpets though 🤮

I hate mash. It's like regurgitated potato vomit.

I love roast potatoes, jacket potatoes, chips.

MannyTeddy · 24/05/2023 11:02

Hate peas. They are vile, pus filled sacks.

Love everything else especially avocados when ripe (used to have a tree in our garden in South Africa in the 1970's).

Love raw salmon sashimi, like velvet. 😋😋😋

JeandeServiette · 24/05/2023 11:04

Brussel sprouts. Food of the gods.

Not at all keen on citrus, though.
