I have a pigeon nesting just outside my sitting room window and she is so cute

We have watched her and her partner build their (rickety) nest and she has been sitting on it for about a week.

She looks into our sitting room like we are her television and entertainment (what else to do I guess).

Every now and then a magpie comes in and tries to threaten her and we bang on the window to ward the magpie off. She seems to know we are helping. (I like to think anyway).

She is currently having a nap. I got up this morning at 5.30 and she was absolutely fast asleep for a good while.

I said to DH; 'What are we going to do tomorrow when we are working and she needs help to scare the magpie?'. He said he will bring his laptop up to the sitting room (he WFH) so he can be on guard.

I really love her.

These are the pigeons we have in our garden, we leave out water and food for them and they’re always there. We love watching them.

AAah! They looks so content and at home. :)

Your DS has excellent taste with his special interests. (12 year old ASD DS here. Smile )

one was ( trying to ) nest in my garden last year. The female sat in the tree while the male half heartily poked twigs underneath. She flew off in the end.
if you look online there is a whole heap of pictures of rubbish pigeon nests. My favourite is the bird that just laid an egg on one twig outside someone’s front door.

I think I'd rather see happy healthy pigeons than pristine paint work
Honestly people
Are the vermin

I have seen these pics! Hilarious. It’s almost as if they’re thinking “there, that’ll do, can’t be arsed anymore” 😆 (although actually apparently they’ve never learnt nest building skills as they’re used to using ledges with caves / rocks to build their homes).

AnarchoTyrannosaurus · 21/05/2023 17:28

Aww, you're so lucky. I wish I had a pigeon nesting by my window.

PickledMuffin · 21/05/2023 17:29

awww lovely!

finallygotospeaktoSky · 21/05/2023 17:29

I'm on Team Pigeon OP. We have several who visit our garden, there is Lily who is mainly white with some grey, Racer whose parents must have been a blue pied racing pigeon and a feral. Our favourite is Angry Bird, a pigeon who has a slightly bent beak with narrow eyes. He seems to glare at everyone entering the garden, bird or human.😀

PickledMuffin · 21/05/2023 17:30

what is it that kind of pigeon say?! 'My toe hurts betty, my toe hurts betty!'

EbonyRaven · 21/05/2023 17:31

Awww, how lovely. Grin

Is that a joke or a question? 😆 Smile

Ahh , I have a pigeon pair in our garden . This is the third year they have nested in the tree by my lounge window . I call the Tony and Rita , after an elderly couple you used to live in the neighbourhood who were totally in love until the end . Pigeon Tony and Rita lie to perch on the roof bars of our car .

PickledMuffin · 21/05/2023 17:35

lol!! if you hear a wood pigeon, listen to them, it sounds like that is what they're saying 😂 (in my writes mind anyway)

Xrays · 21/05/2023 17:37

I love all the names people are giving their pigeons 😆 We have a Derek and a Cecil. Cecil is a nosey sod and when ds plays on the Xbox by the window Cecil will perch on the flat roof of the kitchen so he can watch him 😳😆 He does it every time. He must be hypnotised by the lights on the TV or something!

PickledMuffin · 21/05/2023 17:39

bloomin' autocorrect in my weird mind anyway.

Says someone who doesn’t have to scrub garden path every day ( our paintwork has been destroyed it’s not about expecting pristine paintwork) ,apologise to people at the door who have stepped in it or actually end up in AE with injured knee that caused horrific knee injury after slipping on the shit !
BTW absolutely love the fox that is in our garden regularly but happen to hate pigeons!

Niceseasidetown · 21/05/2023 17:42

Oh bless you. I needed this post. So sweet x

PickledMuffin · 21/05/2023 17:46

i used to love going to Trafalgar Square as a child in the 80's to feed the pigeons. Understand now it isn't allowed due to disease etc, but it was the highlight of my week or month, so on. but so many good
memories.

uhtredbebbanburg · 21/05/2023 17:47

So cute! We have a pigeon nest outside our bedroom window every year. I do t know if it’s the same pigeon or same family it what but every spring they build on the remains of the nest. Pigeon babies are the ugliest thing ever but cute because of it. We can’t wait for the baby this year. Also love blackbirds.

RoseBucket · 21/05/2023 17:47

Here for the pigeon pictures. If you go to Bletchley Park you’ll have a reluctant respect for pigeons and their work ethic.
