I second Barcelona. Unfortunately all my friends love it it seems so I've been on two hen weekends and two separate 40th a there-so it's now my most visited city.

I went to Barcelona in the early 90s sometime. I'd forgotten but I was also underwhelmed. I would be prepared to give it a second try though.

teabycandlelight · 20/05/2023 15:33

Agree on Bali.

would add diving at Great Barrier Reef. Most boring dive I’ve been on. Crap coral, few crappy fish. Everyone I was with raved about it though!

Have to disagree about Ibiza- I thought it would be tacky magaluf style place, but island was beautiful ! Great food

catshreddedthesofa · 20/05/2023 15:33

Another vote for Bali, agree with the Magaluf for Australians comment.

Also Mauritius. Very expensive, very long journey to get there and found the beaches/scenery underwhelming.

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 20/05/2023 15:33

Edinburgh. I really wanted to like it but the throngs of tourists and the prices made me wince. Also not a fan of gothic architecture.

Sweetapplestrudel · 20/05/2023 15:34

Bali...

Also Paris

Venice for sure. It was really smelly, like sewage water everywhere. I wonder if anyone else has ever thought this 🤔

Have been to Venice three times and absolutely loved the place and have never smelt anything unsavoury.

Durdle Door. Once was too much, never again.

Oh no...why?

There are tons of things to do in Chicago and Boston!

I didn’t say there weren’t! But I also have very little desire to return to the USA at all, (particularly large cities in the USA) as there are many places that interest me far more.

So they were overrated destinations for me.

SeasonFinale · 20/05/2023 15:36

Las Vegas

Esjolaol · 20/05/2023 15:36

Paris
Lake District…wet , foggy and depressing.

eden project

Yes this! Really not a great place to visit 😔
Could be so much better.

We love Lisbon - one of our favourite places!

Mortimermay · 20/05/2023 15:37

Tunisia - I agree with the comments on Tunisia. There were parts of it I really loved and enjoyed but it's the only place I've been where I frequently didn't feel safe outside of the hotel. Even on the hotel beach we were aggressively accosted by someone demanding we buy things from him and trying to take my DH's wallet from his pocket. The touts at the tourist sites thought nothing of grabbing you if they wanted your attention and shouting in your face (our tour guide turned a blind eye) and walking around Sousse felt really unsafe at times because there was so much blatant pickpocketing. I've been to other places where I thought people selling things were a bit in your face, but nothing like I experienced in Tunisia.

OrangeBananaFish · 20/05/2023 15:38

Oh yes agree with Venice. Its just dirty and crumbly.

York, everyone raves about York, but I don't see it. Then again I'm from York and grew up there so don't see it through tourist eyes. Last place we lived was in the rough end too.

silverfullmoon · 20/05/2023 15:38

Agree about New York. Its basically London but without the historical interests and way more pollution. I remember opening up the window in the hotel and the air was thick with exhaust fumes, it was nasty.

BillyNoM8s · 20/05/2023 15:38

Everywhere I've been in the USA has been underwhelming (apart from Hawaii, which I don't think counts).

Cherryblossoms85 · 20/05/2023 15:39

Santorini, pyramids. Some of the Roman ruins in Tunisia on the other hand are amazing.

UWhatNow · 20/05/2023 15:42

The Grand Canyon - just boring big orange hole.

swayingpalmtree · 20/05/2023 15:43

Another vote for NYC. Really unimpressed by it. I think I was expecting something like SATC but everyone was dressed really plainly and it was really dirty and nothing like you see in the movies.

silverfullmoon · 20/05/2023 15:44

I loved Venice and thought it was magical 😍

I used to teach diving on the barrier reef, there were some days where vis was crap, no fish and rough weather. Other days where it was stunningly beautiful. The tourist reefs off cairns have suffered from over diving but if you head up into the coral sea it can be amazing.

LA, 3 day stop over on way back from New Zealand. Hated every minute of it and couldn't wait to leave.

I spent 3 weeks touring New Zealand and loved it every minute, stunningly beautiful country

ringoutsolsticebells · 20/05/2023 15:47

Maldives, New York, Paris

Tallulasdancingshoes · 20/05/2023 15:47

Another vote for Bali. Just club 18-30, especially Kuta. I was expecting a tropical island paradise and it just wasn’t at all. To be fair though, we also travelled into the middle (Ubud) which was interesting.

ItsCalledAConversation · 20/05/2023 15:48

Bali I agree, it’s soulless compared to some other much better places in Southeast Asia.

Also agree on Eden Project, it’s rubbish and so expensive and hyped up for what it is. The Lost Gardens of Heligan is just round the corner and so much better.

Not a massive fan of Madrid. Grubby and not much going on unless you want to go clubbing from 4am - 10am.

Milan and Turin both just big dirty cities with annoying road signs that point you in circles.

Amalfi - crowded, hot black sand, sticky high street. A place to go elsewhere from.

Chamonix - full of pretentious smug people why think they are Olympic mountain climbers/skiers and a total rip off.

Abersoch - just a vile atmosphere of foreboding and sadness.
