I hate whitstable too! It’s fucking sinister and the sea is GREY. Just crap.

Sinister how?

innocentfun · 21/01/2024 08:41

Hebden Bridge, which used to be interesting, makes me feel like screaming these days. Have to get out quickly and flee to saner Tod. Just shows what happens when "alternative" goes too far, disappears up its own alternative.

Mothership4two · 21/01/2024 09:14

Oh no I used to love going to Hebden Bridge @innocentfun!

The only fun bit about Vegas was our wedding. We’re not religious, didn’t want any family around and it was much cheaper than in the Uk.

I agree that when it comes to eloping Las Vegas may be more fun than marrying at Gretna Green.

I dunno. I hated Vegas so much, Gretna Green is appealing in comparison.

The Witchery in Edinburgh. Reviews were 5*. It was shocking, food poor, service terrible and freezing.

lieselotte · 21/01/2024 14:34

I've not been to Vegas, but someone I know who uses a wheelchair said that it is amazingly wheelchair-friendly and she was tempted to move there!

StuckintheRutt · 21/01/2024 14:36

Marbella and porto banus. Nothing aesthetic about either place... Just huge cars etc

Pentland65 · 21/01/2024 15:48

Cornwall - but then maybe I’m just too old🤷‍♀️

Just the vibe I get from the place. No distinction between the grey sky and grey sea. Sinister as all hell and absolutely headache inducing. Horrible place.

domineastronomy · 21/01/2024 19:20

Agree about Whitstable. Just soulless.

Thailand. Not the entire country but, ao nang in krabi. Why on earth do people fly 16+ hours to go to such a dirty, dingy resort with a filthy beach, surly locals and a plethora of Indian restaurants?! It's a bizarre place where you struggle to find thai food IN Thailand and the majority of shops are Indian owned. I have nothing against India but if I wanted to go India I would have gone there and not Thailand! Loathed the place. I do love Thailand and have visited beautiful places on other holidays but I would never step foot in krabi again.

Totally agree with you. I didn't get Krabi at all. Awful place!

Also St Lucia - couldn’t leave our resort unaccompanied (2 young females) as it was so dangerous.

Did you stay in a Sandals resort by any chance? Unfortunately the hotels spin this garbage to sell you their tours. I've spent a lot of time in St Lucia and have travelled alone on the local buses with no problems at all. We would be careful in some parts of Castries at night but in the same way we'd be careful in some parts of most British cities.

We stayed in a local independent hotel in St Lucia, not an AI or one that offered tours.the owner was honest about where might be sketchy. But as 2 middle aged tourists in a hire car…and I’m well traveled to all sorts of places, I didn’t like the feel of St Lucia….

It is! Partly because lots of people with mobility scooters, some morbidity obese, are there. Also lots of people with kids in prams.

Barcelona. Been 4 times and nothing will change my mind

LouisCatorze · 22/02/2024 14:42

@tralybrown did you ever visit before it got super touristy? Barcelona is one of the most awesome cities I've ever visited (but I've not been back in 30 years. DS went on a geography field trip there a few years ago and was underwhelmed by it.

Mothership4two · 22/02/2024 17:24

We stayed in Barcelona for a week about 20 years ago and loved it. I'm not a great one for city breaks and usually want to leave after a couple of days.

Abhannmor · 23/02/2024 10:45

Went to Barca twice in the 80s. Was brilliant. Has a friend who had moved there to do TEFL. She wrote saying ' get your arse over here before every wanker in Islington moves in!' 😂
Not been back to compare though...
