OP posts:

Bali
Ibiza
Las Vegas

In that order.

Raggeo · 20/05/2023 14:26

Both of mine have already been mentioned...
LA: Dirty, crowded and felt unsafe.
Bali: Too much of a tourist trap. Too many 'influencer' typesnor those just looking for the perfect Instagram shot.

MummyJ36 · 20/05/2023 14:27

Venice! Like Disneyland, total tourist trap, expensive, smelly and just not my bag at all.

ChristmasKraken · 20/05/2023 14:27

Cairo and the pyramids
Naples

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/05/2023 14:27

@Bumble84, that did make me laugh. Dh and I visited Bali some years ago, and a dd who had been told us which areas to avoid, because ‘It’s a hot Blackpool full of Aussies - you’ll hate it!’

The areas we did visit were very nice, but I can’t say Bali wowed me in the way it was traditionally supposed to. Since dh was based in Jakarta for a while we’ve seen a lot of ‘other’ Indonesia, which I must say I preferred.

Niagara Falls. Underwhelming

BestIsWest · 20/05/2023 14:29

Oh I loved Niagara Falls! The town is tacky but the falls themselves were amazing. The boat trip was enormous fun.

Nap1983 · 20/05/2023 14:29

Dubai

Bali. It’s like Magaluf for Australians.

They don't have a Four Seasons or Oberoi in magaluf I don't think....
Bali like many places, it depends where.

Orangebadger · 20/05/2023 14:31

The Pyramids of Giza. Just ruined by all the touts. Also right next to the suburbs of Cairo so area surrounding them is pretty built up, was not expecting that!

Comments about NYC been underwhelming! Personally loved NYC!

HobnobsChoice · 20/05/2023 14:33

Los Angeles, specifically Santa Monica. It was just so uniform and drab. We were told it was a great place to stay and the beach was lovely but the downtown was just so dull.

CC4712 · 20/05/2023 14:35

Lands End

Tacky souvenir shops and a dodgy 'fun fair' you have to walk through to actually get to the sea. You have to pay for parking and also if you want a photo with the iconic sign!

Groutyonehereagain · 20/05/2023 14:35

Honfleur, over priced and full of tourists. 😎

DemonicCaveMaggot · 20/05/2023 14:35

New York.

I feel I have to stick up for LA though having lived there for nearly 20 years. People say 'I went to LA' but if you literally only went to Los Angeles then no wonder you think it was awful. Greater LA is made up of over 80 different cities each with their own culture and heritage. Burbank is completely different from Santa Monica, Pasadena is nothing like Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes is as much like Bell as Chelsea is like Slough. There is a ton to do in LA from botanical gardens, art museums, theme parks, historical areas, shopping, hiking through mountains, restaurants, beaches, whale watching, boat trips. There has to be something you like there.

TheNefariousOrange · 20/05/2023 14:36

Rome. I had to go there for 4 months for work and lasted 1 month before swapping with a colleague. I found the people on the whole to be really rude and just full of scammers everywhere- it was so tiresome.

KimberleyClark · 20/05/2023 14:36

Blondey2023 · 20/05/2023 14:11

Venice for sure. It was really smelly, like sewage water everywhere. I wonder if anyone else has ever thought this 🤔

I have been to Venice twice, both times in summer and never noticed the smell. I really love it.

EndofDaze · 20/05/2023 14:37

Pisa. What a dump.

Fedupofdiets · 20/05/2023 14:38

Lisbon. Pavements were full of dog shit, drug dealers and broken open bin bags - I thought it was. aright dump.

Throwaway0912 · 20/05/2023 14:38

Milan. Overpriced, tourist trap, super busy and just felt a bit run down and unsafe.

On the other hand, wasn't expecting to like Venice but really loved it. It didn't smell when we were there so that probably helped, I'm sure I've read something that it does stink at certain times.

JacobsCrackersCheeseFogg · 20/05/2023 14:40

Toss. Up between Barcelona and Lisbon. I just didn't "get" either place.

girlsyearapart · 20/05/2023 14:40

pisa
Santa Monica.

tatteddear · 20/05/2023 14:42

Framlingham castle. I love castles. This one has a song about it.
It's absolute bobbins. And about £15 to get in. All it is some walls, a very poor small exhibits and a cafe.

Strange. Been to Venice 4 times, expecting it to be smelly but never found it so.

I was most disappointed with Acapulco. Was expecting Monte Carlo and got a run down English seaside resort. The cliff divers were amazing though.

Gall10 · 20/05/2023 14:44

Isle of Capri….tacky, dirty, no customer service.
