Niagara Falls - like Blackpool surrounded by shitty arcades.

Mothership4two · 16/01/2024 13:51

We went to Niagara Falls in Canada (had been told to avoid the US side) and pretty much bypassed the town and it was amazing. Did all the the tourist things like the boat trip. I would do it again.

JamSandle · 16/01/2024 15:18

LA

Paris

JamSandle · 16/01/2024 15:19

Oh and Morocco as I was treated abysmally there.

WestwardHo1 · 16/01/2024 15:22

How high can expectations be of Yeovil? Confused

"Oh I've always wanted to go to Yeovil". No, never heard that.

Whichwhatnow · 16/01/2024 22:23

Yeovil 😅

I mean if we're going totally shit market towns in the UK then I'd like to throw in Woking and specifically the Pizza Express. I have had it confirmed by the manager that at no point did Prince Andrew turn up for a birthday party and I was in there weekly due to lack of anything else to do at the time

Groutyonehereagain · 17/01/2024 00:26

Egypt, too many temples, beggars and Ill treated horses. Honfleur, over priced, touristy and poor food. West coast of Scotland, too many midges and too much fabulous scenery. Puy du foy, is like the emperor’s new clothes, WTF?

How can there be too much fabulous scenery? Grin I take your point about midges though.

Doingmybest12 · 18/01/2024 06:09

On disappointing market towns-Melton Mowbray. In my head it should be like Bakewell due to the famous food products but it is so not.

MarkWithaC · 18/01/2024 08:29

I find Bakewell itself quite disappointing, TBH. Too many cars and massive farm vehicles roaring through relatively narrow streets, and many pubs etc closed or v restricted hours because of staffing issues, due largely I think to people buggering off home or not bothering to come to the UK after Brexit.

I've never been to Yeovil but have only ever heard it described as a shithole.

Las Vegas, Bloody awful. Fake, fake, fake and dirty 😳

Have recently been to a beautiful magical village in the hills above Nerja in Spain called Frigiliana. I think about it often, it’s a fantastic get away from it all.

Spidey66 · 19/01/2024 21:52

@Snippit
i hated Las Vegas too. It’s like Marmite

ForTheSakeOfThePenguin · 19/01/2024 22:02

Las Vegas, absolute shite unless you are into gambling and making a day out of admiring pretend-to-be-great hotels.

PandoraRocks · 19/01/2024 22:50

Yes @postwarbulge Herne Bay is pretty boring and was bloody freezing and windy when I went there in the Summer. Whitstable is also massively underwhelming - full of DFLs in their second homes. Poncy cafes serving a thimbleful of food for breakfast for £20 and overpriced bread in the artisan bakery (reminds me of the Harry Enfield 'Saw you coming' sketch 🤣).

I live close to Bakewell and it is very underwhelming. The main reason for pub closures really is a mixture of circumstances like everywhere, Covid, Brexit and financial.

The only fun bit about Vegas was our wedding. We’re not religious, didn’t want any family around and it was much cheaper than in the Uk.

I hate whitstable too! It’s fucking sinister and the sea is GREY. Just crap.

😍😍. We went to Frigiliana a few years ago and ended up there for 9 weeks (covid related). It's a beautiful place, isn't it?

BumperRide · 21/01/2024 00:29

Thailand. Not the entire country but, ao nang in krabi. Why on earth do people fly 16+ hours to go to such a dirty, dingy resort with a filthy beach, surly locals and a plethora of Indian restaurants?! It's a bizarre place where you struggle to find thai food IN Thailand and the majority of shops are Indian owned. I have nothing against India but if I wanted to go India I would have gone there and not Thailand! Loathed the place. I do love Thailand and have visited beautiful places on other holidays but I would never step foot in krabi again.

selfishmeow · 21/01/2024 00:38

Dubai.

MrsHughesPinny · 21/01/2024 01:47

Another vote for Vegas, it’s so depressing. I know some people that go every year, baffles me.

Another for Las Vegas.

Absolutely hated it.

Final nail in the coffin was passing a shop selling adult nappies so people could pee/shit without leaving their gaming table/slot machine.

Whaaaaat?! 😳

Interesting about whitstable - does have a decent spoons though in an old cinema. Many places are saved by a spoons.
