Durdle Door. Once was too much, never again.

tatteddear · 20/05/2023 14:44

I second Barcelona. Unfortunately all my friends love it it seems so I've been on two hen weekends and two separate 40th a there-so it's now my most visited city.

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 20/05/2023 14:46

Corfu- I got bitten from head to toe and found it to be quite difficult to navigate as a tourist. I didn’t feel welcome, if you know what I mean. I am hoping to try again though, some people really love it!

Youknownorhing · 20/05/2023 14:47

Berlin, friend thought it was 'edgy' and 'arty'
I thought it was a grot spot covered in graffiti..

I second Lands End. Such a shame it's been ruined by unbridled commercialism.

I thought some parts of Bali were utterly exquisite.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Also depends upon expectations.

BishopRock · 20/05/2023 14:50

Stonehenge.

Maybe if they ever manage to have it alone in the landscape without a major road going past it, it would have more oomph.

Oh I loved Niagara Falls! The town is tacky but the falls themselves were amazing. The boat trip was enormous fun.

We loved the falls too, how could anyone not?
The Canadian side is cheap’n’tacky compared to the US side but the falls are spectacular.

TheFretfulPorpentine · 20/05/2023 15:02

Borneo. Orang-utans are not really very appealing.

coronafiona · 20/05/2023 15:04

Tunisia. It was lovely in the hotel but immediate outside accosted by locals selling stuff in a very intimidating way. I would not go back.

DemonicCaveMaggot · 20/05/2023 15:06

I only intend to visit Manchester again if I have died and DH goes insane and starts carrying my ashes around with him.

Mobile, Alabama is the most boring place on Earth.

chubbychopsticks · 20/05/2023 15:06

@ Blondey2023
I've heard this many times but I've
Never noticed any smell and is one of my favourite cities. Been many times!

I'd say Seville! Soooo dull. Hated it.
Agree with Turkey. Interesting for its history but generally meh.

Bluevelvetsofa · 20/05/2023 15:09

Naples, grubby and dusty
Pisa, for the same reasons of rubbish tat as everyone else
Lands End, more tat

Love Venice though

Majorca

Hideous
& rained in August
total waste of money

One of the mist beautiful places I’ve ever been with fabulous food, palma is one of my favourite cities and some of the most stunning beaches and villages I’ve been to. Very upmarket and elegant in most places. You clearly went to the wrong part and didn’t explore, it won’t have rained the whole of august, it never has

Kinsters · 20/05/2023 15:10

Aw I loved the pyramids when we went! It was Ramadan and just after the revolution so noone could really be bothered trying to sell us anything. The lights in the pyramid were broken apparently but we were allowed in anyway and it was so atmospheric turning our torches off in the main chamber and being in total darkness.

Bit niche but Cameron Highlands. Just traffic, traffic and more traffic interspersed with sad tourist attractions.

Oh, the top of Snowdon. The walk up and down was lovely but the summit itself was such a dump. You couldn't even get any water from the vending machines!

Blondey2023 · 20/05/2023 14:11

Venice for sure. It was really smelly, like sewage water everywhere. I wonder if anyone else has ever thought this 🤔

When was that? I went about five years ago, it was boiling hot and had zero nasty smells.

Doingmybest12 · 20/05/2023 15:18

I liked Pizza. The tower leans as expected. Not sure what else folk were hoping for. I was disappointed by Florence, it just wasn't as beautiful as I thought it would be.

Therealjudgejudy · 20/05/2023 15:18

New York. Won't return

Snap. Never ever will I set foot there again. One week was like a lifetime. Awful.

Santasjingleballs · 20/05/2023 15:19

Switzerland went twice never really found it amazing as people make it seem

needafullnightsleep · 20/05/2023 15:20

Ha Long Bay in Vietnam. Uber touristy and sadly very polluted

EwwSprouts · 20/05/2023 15:25

Ring of Kerry - high hedges through windscreen wipers.

Venice was lovely. Four days of no smells and no cruise ships in.

ReadingIsFundamental · 20/05/2023 15:26

Dunedin, New Zealand. Incredibly dull and not worth the lengthy drive. Other towns in NZ too but I’ve wiped their names from my memory - the restaurants stopped serving food at 8pm, I was dumbfounded.

it took 3 visits to Paris before I enjoyed it as a destination.

Chicago and Boston - I probably didn’t have enough time there but I also didn’t see anything that made me want to visit again.

BeachBlondey · 20/05/2023 15:27

Hollywood was a shocker to me. Very dangerous - there was even an armed guard at Burger King.

Paris - dirty, over priced and the locals were miserable.

Disneyland Paris - really, really run down in the early 2000's.

TGI's and Hardrock Cafe's all seem to look a bit run down these days.

Chicago Airport - bizarrely small Terminal for International flights. Only ONE proper restaurant where you could get a beer and a burger, and it was tiny, hence the enormous queue to get in. If you didn't eat there, you were stuck with fast food. Only a handful of shops as well. It's probably the worst airport I've ever been in, and I've been in a lot!

There are tons of things to do in Chicago and Boston!

Delhi. Air pollution was so bad that I felt really ill and I don't even suffer from asthma or any respiratory conditions. We also got scammed in a Muslim holy place and our scammer stood between us and the door demanding lots of money. Very scary!

EmeraldPanda · 20/05/2023 15:31
