Pregnant at 43?!

Stripypillow · 19/05/2023 10:44

I haven’t actually taken a test yet because I’m a bit scared to. Mostly because it would be an amazing but terrifying thing to be pregnant! I am 10 days late, and feel pregnant (headachey, sore boobs, sort of strange feeling that I had last time).

DH and I thought we couldn’t have another dc, we were told we had secondary infertility and conceiving naturally would be highly unlikely. DS is 10!

I know I might not even be pregnant. But if I am… anyone else had a baby at 43?! How did it go? I’m terrified for so many reasons! One that I’m not pregnant and have let myself fantasise about it for the last couple of days, another that I am and would miscarry because of my age, another that I am and would feel like an old mum…

I live in an area where women having babies in their 40s is normal. I have friends with babies and toddlers, so wouldn’t be completely left out.

Anyone had a baby at 43? How did it go?

I had my last baby a few weeks before I turned 45. Was not planned and in truth expected to miscarry, However my DC was perfect and is now 8. I really enjoyed my last maternity leave. As I knew he was definitely my last DC and had loved having a break from work! So if you do turn out to be pregnant then good luck with it all

Me too, 41 and 43, both DC's absolute joys. Uneventful pregnancies and deliveries, only gas and air with both

Turefu · 19/05/2023 18:02

Fingers crossed for you!

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 19/05/2023 18:02

I had my last at 41. Had hyperemis which was debilitating but...a very healthy fat baby! Take a test!

NameChangeSorryNotSorry · 19/05/2023 18:03

I would just do the test now.

BTMadmummy · 19/05/2023 18:04

Gosh such excitement

God I am terrified of the test! Off to get DS from school now, will sneak and buy a test beforehand from the chemist, which I’ll hide in my bag, ready to take with tomorrow’s first wee. AAHH.

If you're already ten days late then just do it now for goodness sake. At ten days late you shouldn't need to use first morning urine.

Madeintowerhamlets · 19/05/2023 18:11

Fingers crossed for you OP!

Our Mum had her 5th (and last) baby when she was 42, our eldest sister had been married 2 years at the time!
My youngest became an aunt when she was about 3, this was back in the 60's, home birth attended by our family GP and our Grandma.
What a woman my Mum was!

Lagershandy · 19/05/2023 18:12

youngest sister

JenWillsiam · 19/05/2023 18:21

Cousin had her first at 46. She had a shit time feeding but she’s the coolest mum and her and her daughter are so close. Im sure kids when you’re old have an anti aging effect.

Tilly73 · 19/05/2023 18:26

I had my 3rd at 42. She's at school and I don't feel old. She's been the easiest as I feel my relaxed and confident as I had my othe 2 in my 20's

Naddd · 19/05/2023 18:33

You don't actually have to wait till morning to test

Definitely not when you’re ten days late!

Good luck OP!

A friend of mine just had a baby at 46, same thing, secondary infertility and her oldest was ten. All went smoothly. Good luck @Stripypillow

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 19/05/2023 18:52

A few PPs here have had babies in their 40s, I know of about 2 women who’ve had babies in mid 40s, one woman it was her first but she’d had a miscarriage at 40, the other woman had a grown up son.

Efrogwraig · 19/05/2023 18:58

Yup. Son now 22. Had less energy but more patience. And he's amazing!

CaptainBatEars · 19/05/2023 19:01

My youngest DB was born not long before my O levels, when my mum was 43, almost 44. It was v much unexpected as Mum thought she was starting menopause but all went well and DB is now in his late 30s. Even though we're the 'bookends' of the family, we're v close as adults so the age gap is irrelevant.

BriarHare · 19/05/2023 19:02

Do it! It’s either pregnancy or menopause! 😂

User1438423 · 19/05/2023 19:12

I think it's fine to wait to test, you want to enjoy the possibility for a bit longer incase you aren't, that is understandable. I don't want to rain on your parade, 12% of women have their last period before age 45 (but many more are still fertile and I really hope you are pregnant because it sounds like you'd be overjoyed).

summervibes2023 · 19/05/2023 19:17

Hope you get the result you want tomorrow xx

ohyouknowwhatshername · 19/05/2023 19:22
