I'm going through some shit and need to cry but can't so am resorting to watching whatever it takes to kick it off.

I'm watching 'Its a sin' at the moment, episode 3...

I don't want to be asked what's wrong just ideas of what to watch. Thank you.

The saddest film I ever saw was Dancer in the Dark with Bjork. Started crying half way through and didn't stop.

This is the most I have ever cried in my life. Dreadful sobbing for hours. It kicked off something uncontrollable in me. Bjork was brilliant in this. Only bloody watched it coz I fancied Jean-Marc Barr.

Absolutely Firefly Lane S2 hits the brief - but you do need to have watched all of S1 for the impact otherwise you won't have the appreciation of how deep the friendship and love is.

For something quicker, military wives choir singing wherever you are makes me cry every time. As the song's only about 3 minutes long it's a super fast way of bringing on the waterworks.

A Dog's Purpose - really cathartic.
Dancer in The Dark (film with Bjork) - when I left the cinema, choking on sobs, strangers were hugging each other, howling. Still affects me 20 odd years later

I can totally believe this.

The last episode of After Life by Ricky Gervais..

I had been watching these while on my turbo trainer.... I was away with work and watched the last one on a spinning bike in the gym OMFG WHY DID NOBODY WARN ME?????

Ending of Toy a story 4

If I want a proper cry it’s Stepmom or Marley & Me, or Pose, every episode had me in tears at some point.

Legends of the Fall

Meet Joe Black

Be warned, they will not fail.

I came on to say Legends of the Fall. Used to watch it consistently as a teenager. it has the added bonus of Brad Pitt being gorgeous

Also UP and the bit in Dumbo where his mommy is singing to him and rocking him while she's in elephant jail 😭

The Mission

FrangipaniBlue · 14/05/2023 22:19

There's an episode of long lost family where the girl was essentially kidnapped by her dad as a baby and taken to (Morocco?) and given to her aunt and uncle to raise.

She only found out as an adult they weren't her parents.

Turned out her mum had done everything she could to find her at the time to no avail.

Her mums face when they tell her they've found her daughter, makes me well up just writing this out!

MySoCalledWife · 14/05/2023 22:19

Yes, Grave of the Fireflies (but it hurts)

also The Hours

Grave Of The Fireflies or Life Is Beautiful

Omg Life is Beautiful. I cry from the start knowing what's going to happen

Midnightpony · 14/05/2023 22:30

There's also a film called "My Life Without Me" but it was actually so sad I couldn't cry

Proudofitbabe · 14/05/2023 22:36

@Midnightpony I also first saw Legends as a teenager and was an ugly heaving sobbing mess. Some of the suggestions on here are incredibly lightweight by comparison - Long Last Family might make you well up but it doesn't hit like that climax scene in Legends! OP, listen to us!

Agree with you on Baby Mine too, heartbreaking!

MandyMotherOfBrian · 14/05/2023 22:39

The only films I’ve properly cried over are Hachi and Who Will Love My Children

@Proudofitbabe 😂 soooo many sad scenes in Legends of the Fall, each one worse than the last, until the final one. Time to relive my youth and rewatch! Might scare the kids though 😭😭😭

Makingamess4212 · 14/05/2023 22:45

Beaches
A Little Princess
My Girl
Still Alice
Miss You Already
Stepmom

Proudofitbabe · 14/05/2023 22:46

@Midnightpony So true! just picturing the "am happy" bit. Omg 😭

What's so good is how bloody sad it is throughout, but what is does at the end (without giving it away) is so powerful and uplifting. Definitely need to watch it soon, am overdue a good cry!! I fully intend on educating the kids too 😂
