UNITED24 Media Telegram

❗️At night, Russian troops hit objects in Khmelnytskyi, one of them is a military one, β€” Regional Military Administration
"Currently, work on localization of fires at fuel warehouses is ongoing. 5 aircraft have been disabled. Restoration work has begun on the runway," the message says.
Information about the victims is being verified.

The F-16 aircraft that Ukraine will receive will most likely be used either exclusively in defense or in very high-risk operations, according to Bloomberg with reference to American pilots who flew these fighters in combat.
"The F-16s that will be sent to Ukraine will likely have a shorter radar and missile range than the most advanced Russian aircraft and air defenses. This means that the Ukrainians may have to reduce their stated expectations that the F-16 will allow them to establish air superiority, shoot down cruise missiles and the latest enemy aircraft, destroy manpower and artillery on the battlefield, and even sink the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation.”

Finland warned about the threat of the collapse of the OSCE next year, β€” Yle.
"If there is no chairman in 2024 and there is no consensus on this matter, then next year will be the year of the destruction of the OSCE as an organization," said the head of the Foreign Ministry, Pekka Haavisto.
According to the rules of the organization, the rotation of the presiding country must be approved by all 57 participating countries.
However, Russia and Belarus block Estonia's presidency, but Estonia is not ready to give in.

Saudi Arabia expressed dissatisfaction with the Russian Federation because Moscow is not fully fulfilling its obligations to reduce oil production, β€” The Wall Street Journal.
In April, both countries pledged to cut oil production by 500,000 barrels per day starting in May. However, Russian oil exports have been growing for several weeks in a row.

The scale of the latest air attack on Ukraine may indicate that the occupiers have received a new batch of kamikaze drones from Iran, the spokeswoman for the Operational Command "South" Nataliya Humenyuk said.

To shoot down kamikaze drones, which the occupiers used to attack Ukraine that night, aviation was brought in, said the spokesman of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Yuriy Ignat.
"Air defense is working in one place, mobile groups are in another. Fighters can work in those areas where there are fewer air defense assets. They can take off quickly, react quickly, and destroy UAVs," the spokesman said.
Currently, MiG-29 and Su-27 aircraft are flying into the sky for such purposes, which, as Ignat noted, cannot guarantee one hundred percent protection.

πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ The President of the South African Republic created a commission to investigate possible arms supplies to Russia. This is in response to allegations that munitions were sent to Russia on the Lady R, loaded at the naval base in Simonstown last year.

πŸš€πŸ’₯ 37 cruise missiles, 29 UAVs and 1 reconnaissance drone were destroyed this night, β€” Zaluzhnyi
According to the commander, the Russians fired up to 40 Kh-101 / Kh-555 cruise missiles from nine Tu-95MS strategic aircraft from the Caspian Sea area. In addition, the enemy attacked Ukraine from the northern and southern directions with 35 Shahed-136/131 UAVs.
A total of 67 enemy air targets were destroyed, including 1 operational-tactical reconnaissance UAV.

The Air Force explained the specifics of the kamikaze drone attack.
"They fly in groups, in batches, flying in different directions, each drone has its own route, each UAV has GPS navigation, is controlled via satellite, so it can even fly in a circle and strike in a certain time. The enemy uses the terrain to disappear from radar," explains Air Force spokesman Colonel Yuriy Ihnat.

Volodymyr Zelensky submitted a draft resolution to the Verkhovna Rada to impose sanctions against Iran for 50 years.
The following restrictions are proposed:
πŸ”» trade, financial, and technological restrictions on Iranian citizens;
πŸ”» termination of Iranian transit of resources and flights through the territory of Ukraine;
πŸ”» a ban on the withdrawal of capital from Ukraine by Iranian citizens.

Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostiuk refused to shake hands with her rival, world number two Arina Sobolenko from Belarus. This happened after a match in the first round of the French Open tennis championships. Part of the audience greeted the act with a standing ovation, and part of them booed.

Famzonhol · 29/05/2023 13:40

Most of the crowd booed.
These women (of all countries) have worked hard at their sport to reach where they are. Many of them probably have little interest in politics. It was unsportsmanlike not to shake hands.

L1ttledrummergirl · 29/05/2023 13:46

I have a friend in another sport on the international circuit. I think that he would respect his opponents commitment to the sport, and the effort they've put in to get there.

Had it been our country invaded, I think he would be torn but would probably feel the same way as Ukrainian athletes and refuse to shake hands. The loyalty to your home is strong, whatever nationality you are.

The crowd should have respected that and remained silent. Shame on them.

Positivethought · 29/05/2023 14:02

Shame on the spectators. It’s easy to judge and be critical when it’s not your country being bombarded by terrorists. It is my strong view that athletes representing the Russian state should not be allowed on to the world stage to compete in any sports whatsoever. It is questionable, if not downright immoral, of the organisers of such events to put Ukrainian competitors in that situation.

Famzonhol · 29/05/2023 14:11

Well the thing is, if you’re competing at world level and you exclude a country then you can never say you’ve truly won at world level. Also is it fair to ruin the career of an athlete because of something they have no control over? It’s tricky but I think some rules of civilisation should continue despite the actions

Famzonhol · 29/05/2023 14:11

Of terrorists.

I think I'll pass judgement on whether she should have been more sportsmanlike to the representative of the enemy country once I've had experience of my country being invaded and my friends and family conscripted, perhaps wounded and dead, and been told by their leader and propagandists that we should not exist.

I take the point that it's unusual not to shake hands but we're not in her shoes.

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 29/05/2023 14:18

Not shaking her hand is hardly ruining her career. it's not polite, but in the circumstances anyone can understand why.

By the way in the World Judo Championships, the Russians have a reputation for sending their second-best for the practise bouts and breaking the opponent's arm. The second-best is disqualified so the best goes forward into the competition, but the opponent of course can't compete because their arm is broken. This was told to me by a trainer of a world champion.

By ruining the career of an athlete I mean banning them from performing because of what people in their country have done.

minsmum · 29/05/2023 14:32

Don't forget that most Russian athletes are in the Russian military, if they want to compete they should denounce their countries actions but they don't they support it. Russian and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to compete internationally until Russia is defeated. Over 250 Ukrainian athletes have been killed by the Russians and you think they should shake their hands? I will not be watching Wimbledon this year because of their stance on Russian and Belarusian athletes. Not much I know in the grand scheme of things but it is the very least I can do

Russians are literal orcs and not human, so this is fine. Yes, all of them. The NAFO Twittersphere told me.

What does β€œdefeat” mean?

Liebig · 29/05/2023 14:41

Remember after 9/11 when it was okay to do a racism against any Arab because they were the bad guys?

It was awkward when my workplace hired a Russian speaker in the last three months. I had to interrogate him to make sure he wasn’t literal Putler, otherwise how can I, in good conscience, work with such a fascist?

minsmum · 29/05/2023 14:50

@Liebig that's what you took from my post what does defeat mean.

Yes? It’s not a trick question. What does, in your view, defeat mean?

All occupied territory in Ukraine returned to Ukrainian control, including Crimea? All Russian soldiers killed and military broken? Russia itself collapsed into anarchy? What?

minsmum · 29/05/2023 14:56

All Ukrainian territory returned to Ukraine and reparations paid.

Famzonhol · 29/05/2023 14:21

By ruining the career of an athlete I mean banning them from performing because of what people in their country have done.

Russian athletes are complicit. If they are banned so be it.

How many careers of ordinary Ukrainians (musicians, teachers, IT guys, carpenters) have also been 'ruined'. These ordinary Ukrainians, many of whom are also athletes - wasn't a Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Onyshchenko recently killed in action in Bakhmut - are now out in the warzone handling weapons to defend their homeland and people. Many of them are displaced.

So tell me it is wrong to ban Russian althletes because <sob> they lost their careers. Let me find my world's smallest violin.

Liebig · 29/05/2023 14:59

minsmum · 29/05/2023 14:56

All Ukrainian territory returned to Ukraine and reparations paid.

So, that’s never happening. You’re going to be in this for a long time then.

Might as well ask the UK to give reparations to every nation it enslaved and see how that goes. It’s about as likely.

Igotjelly · 29/05/2023 15:03

This again πŸ™„ yes all Ukrainian territory returned, and frankly no reason to think that isn’t eventually possible.

blueshoes · 29/05/2023 15:06

minsmum · 29/05/2023 14:56

All Ukrainian territory returned to Ukraine and reparations paid.

Agreed. And I will add war criminals brought to justice.

That said, let not perfection be the enemy of the good. These goals are the embodiment of freedom and values worth fighting and supporting Ukraine for.
