I recently had some training, and it was mentioned that everyone should find laughter every day. It's important for our wellbeing and resilience.

I understand this, and remember watching comedy years ago and crying with laughter, but I just don't seem to any more.

I'm drawn to serious/thriller type reading and watching. Nothing cheery.

Can you recommend a funny/lighthearted/amusing/uplifting book, film, series, podcast....

I can't think of anything on TV that would make me cry with laughter - that only happens with friends and family for me. For proper belly laughs though it's mostly stand up comedy that does that for me - I love a night at the Comedy Store as there are always good comedians. Some great stuff on TV though - depends what makes you laugh as they are all so different. I love Ricky Gervais but some like Frankie Boyle doesn't make me laugh at all.

There have been a few TV programs that I found really funny but nothing recent. I used to love How Not to Live Your Life and Fresh Meat which were on Channel 4.

The Big Bang Theory is the only recentish sitcom which has made me laugh out loud. All episodes currently on Netflix. Without ad breaks they are 20 minute nuggets of bonkersness.

Sorry if this had been mentioned, but the Cockfields on Now or bbc iplayer is the one show that’s has both me and DH crying with laughter. We had to pause it to catch our breath and wipe the tears of laughter. Just so relatable

Pudmyboy · 29/04/2023 20:22

IT Crowd
Father Ted
For more gentle humour try Ghosts
Zapped is also bonkers in a gentle way

I remembered This Country on iPlayer. I find that proper laugh out loud stuff.

My walk this afternoon had me listening to more of My Dad Wrote a Porno. Again, lots of funny looks as I burst out laughing mid walk.

Bemyclementine · 29/04/2023 21:27

I've been jotting down suggestions!

I lived Derry Girls but didn't laugh out loud.

I HATE Mrs browns boys.

I also love Indian runner ducks, they definitely have comedy value 🤣

I'm going to give Modern family a try.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions! Hopefully my viewing and reading habits will change a bit.

One that is quite topical now; The Windsors on channel 4 catch up.
Spoof of the royal family, where Kate comes from gypsy stock and used to do bare knuckle fighting, and though the queen and prince Philip aren't in it, Prince Philip sends very sweary messages to the younger royals particularly concerning Fergie, plus Harry Enfield plays Prince Charles (as he was then) and Haydn Gwynn was an excellent Camilla: well worth a look!

There's a man I follow on Twitter. He has a marvellous turn of phrase and he adds captions and sometimes music or sound effects to video clips or photos, usually of animals. His aim is to raise awareness and money for a small animal charity in Bali. This is an example: . He makes me laugh most days.
