Finding laughter - where do you find it? Recommend something really funny please

I recently had some training, and it was mentioned that everyone should find laughter every day. It's important for our wellbeing and resilience.

I understand this, and remember watching comedy years ago and crying with laughter, but I just don't seem to any more.

I'm drawn to serious/thriller type reading and watching. Nothing cheery.

Can you recommend a funny/lighthearted/amusing/uplifting book, film, series, podcast....

Clips on You Tube

One of Jacob Rees-Mogg falling over!

The one with the bat in the house. "Catch him Derry"

Makes me laugh out loud no matter how many times I've seen it!

I clicked on it and thought Oh I've seen this before, but then realised I hadn't. That version is really funny 😂😂

Bemyclementine · 30/04/2023 21:33

I was going to watch Modern family but series 1 is no longer available on 4. And I can't start at series 2!

Started Colin from accounts....not feeling it. I think mysense of humour is broken.

Oh god I’d forgotten about “Catch him Derry!” 🤣🤣🤣

"Catch him derry" was hilarious. I liked their effort at the dance routine too, 🤣

I do love a fart joke Blush
A compilation of fitness influencers doing their moves overdubbed with fart sounds had me in tears.

Bemyclementine · 30/04/2023 22:34

Just watched Derry and the hoverboard. 🤣

I find the more you watch comedies, the more stuff you start to find funny.

I like mainstream comedies like Parks & Rec, Father Ted, IT Crowd etc, classic comedies like Frasier, Black Adder, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, acerbic ones like The Thick of It, relatable ones like Motherland and Catastrophe, daft ones like Harry & Paul or Vic and Bob, gentle ones like Detectorists.

Same with stand ups - I love mainstream oldies like Victoria wood or Billy Connolly and some of the more bitter comedians like Stuart Lee or eccentric ones like James Acaster

Bemyclementine · 30/04/2023 22:43

@RoseRobot I do think you're right. I need to watch more. Colin is growing on me by episode 3.

I haven't watched stand up for years, used to find Lee Evans and micky Flanagan funny.

Black Books, Father Ted, Spaced, IT Crowd, Red Dwarf, Alan Partridge.

Detectorists, Car Share. Not laugh out loud, but so lovely.

Colin From Accounts, Ghosts (US version is nice too), The Cleaner.

The whole set of Modern Family is still on Disney Plus and Sky boxsets if you have access to either of those? Wouldn't be the end of the world if you started watching at series two though. It's character based so you can pick up partway through and still enjoy it.

Ghosts and Horrible Histories - my humour is childish I know. When the kids were little even Gigglebiz made me laugh.

Bralessandfree · 01/05/2023 10:24

Oh I agree, Colin is a grower. I was hooked by episode 3.

Innuendo Bingo!

LadyEloise1 · 01/05/2023 16:19

On YouTube an Irish Mammy pleading with her son to study for his Irish language oral Leaving Cert exam ( similar to UK A levels ).
It is legendary in Ireland.
The poor Mammy was mortified by its uploading.

Irish Mumsnetters will remember it.

Horrible Histories is a great shout. I love Stupid Deaths Grin

purpleme12 · 01/05/2023 19:21

Actually I would like to add
Horrible Histories too like PP said.
Sabrina the Teenage Witch - the original series.
And Bluey! My child is 9 and yes we watch it together and it makes me laugh! 🤣
Am glad I've got a child to watch it with though 🤣

purpleme12 · 01/05/2023 19:26
