Finding laughter - where do you find it? Recommend something really funny please

I recently had some training, and it was mentioned that everyone should find laughter every day. It's important for our wellbeing and resilience.

I understand this, and remember watching comedy years ago and crying with laughter, but I just don't seem to any more.

I'm drawn to serious/thriller type reading and watching. Nothing cheery.

Can you recommend a funny/lighthearted/amusing/uplifting book, film, series, podcast....

I agree-Bill Bryson, but I prefer him as audio books. The ones he reads himself-his voice is lovely.

Would I lie to you is my go to programme for a gut laugh, particularly if Bob Mortimer is on

Came on to say exactly this! David Mitchell's reactions are priceless.

Also, OP the podcast My Dad Wrote a Porno is the funniest thing I've ever heard. I can't listen to it walking to work any more as I keep laughing out loud.

Oh and those autocorrect fail websites often have me crying with laughter too.

James Fridman sorry

ChypreNovice · 29/04/2023 15:06

We recently started watching Jury Duty on Amazon Prime. Can’t remember the last time I saw my husband doing proper belly laughs at a TV show.

It’s a mockumentary of a US trial with an added twist that there is one person in the show who is is not an actor and thinks he’s in a real life documentary. It’s got James Marsden in it playing himself. Brilliant and completely absurd.

Meadowflower2023 · 29/04/2023 15:53

I accidentally ended up watching Live at the Apollo the other week (followed on from something else I'd watched) and there was a comedian on that I'd never heard of before Geoff Norcott - oh my days I was crying laughing at the tv! As soon as it had done I looked him up and bought tickets to go see him live this summer. I love a good ol' belly laugh! Definitely lifts the spirits!

VikingLady · 29/04/2023 16:40

Stand up comedy tends to get straight to the laughs for me. It's like fast food for emotions - no wasting time setting scenes. You can try 15m of a load of different ones on Netflix or on demand.

My go to for humour though are my old box sets of Black Books, and Drop the Dead Donkey.

CurlewKate · 29/04/2023 17:09

@Meadowflower2023 I couldn't be further politically from Geoff Norcott- but he really makes me laugh! He has a podcast, and a very interesting book as well. And he was the "token right winger" on the MASH Report-you can find clips on YouTube.

Grimeduster · 29/04/2023 17:12

Stand up comedy. It might take a while to find a comedian that you like but it's so worth it! I honestly think it's one of the purest art forms.

PollyPeptide · 29/04/2023 17:16

Greg Davies stories on Graham Norton. There's only a handful but whenever I watch them, I laugh. I'm starting to laugh now just thinking of them.

Bbq1 · 29/04/2023 17:24

Just remembered the Philimena Cunk mockumentaries, absolutely hilarious and crazy!!

charliegirl86 · 29/04/2023 17:32

cheekaa · 29/04/2023 18:03

I recommend
Derry Girls on All 4
The Detectorists iplayer.

BenCoopersSupportWren · 29/04/2023 18:23

Another vote for Taskmaster, all the series are available on All4, and for MN Classics especially “Fashion Expectations v Reality”, “Thickos on TripAdvisor” and the spray painted pigeon threads.

I also like WILTY - Kevin Bridges “accidentally bought a horse” and the Rob Brydon cuddle jumper episodes are brilliant, and YY to any with Bob Mortimer. Henning Wehn is usually good for a laugh too.

One that hasn’t been mentioned yet is Mock the Week. It’s hard to find more than the last few series on standard catch up players, but older ones are usually on YouTube. My favourites are episodes with Milton Jones or Ed Byrne (he and host Dara O’Briain are best mates so take the mickey out of each other mercilessly) but there’s almost always something that makes me laugh in any episode.

Pecorygreg · 29/04/2023 18:24

Frith2013 · 29/04/2023 19:30

There is clip of a French show where they have guests who all have silly laughs. They keep setting each other off. I'll try and find it.
