If the coronation was being funded by voluntary contributions would you pay towards it?

I wouldn't, I think charlie should pay for it out of his personal billions. If you would, why?

I mean I wouldn’t give him a single penny anyway so it’s irrelevant! Just questioning if it works since of course all those unable to donate like young children and people who do not have access to money will need to be removed from the equation.

And those using foodbanks, or just managing so would be going without food for a day to pay £1.45.

I'm very uncomfortable with idea of picking & choosing which govt functions we pay for or don't.

But won’t the population include children? And those who might be unable to donate, such as people who are disabled, very elderly or unwell etc and living in supported housing or hospital facilities?

Yes of course. That is the estimated cost per person (from cradle to grave) that I guess is coming out of our tax payers money pot which is more fairly paid into although we have less say in how it is spent. If we had to voluntarily donate then based on the proportion of contributors on this thread I think we would have to pay significantly more.

He's doing some online raffle where you can win a signed robe, some commemorative tea towels and boxes of Duchy Original oat biscuits.

Ah
I'm in then
I like a good knees up and a nice tea towel

thecatsthecats · 10/04/2023 14:29

No, I wouldn't.

To play devil's advocate though, the same applies to quite a lot of things my tax money goes on.

iklboo · 10/04/2023 14:29

No chance.

It was me that said £1.45 and my sources were not great. Googled uk population and cost of coronation - those estimates came up. (£100,000,000 cost and 68,800,00 people)

£100 million? Holy cow. That can't be right, can it?

You get monarchists going on about the royalty attracting visitors to the UK. I just hope all those tourists are spending big big money when they're over here otherwise we ain't getting VFM.

Groutyonehereagain · 10/04/2023 14:32

NO

enjoyingscience · 10/04/2023 14:32

Fuck no.

Though I’m very republican and would cheerfully throw them all out and hand their palaces over to the national trust and let them pay tax on whatever they have left. They’re leeches.

christyinlondon · 10/04/2023 14:34

no I think they can spend a little of that royal money!

Loria · 10/04/2023 14:36

No chance.

I wish it was done on an opt-in basis. Might get some interesting results, especially if the off kilter flag wavers had cause to reflect on what it really means that their king wants money off them so he can have his special me-day.

LolaSmiles · 10/04/2023 14:38

Another vote for no here.

Many of whom cannot afford to properly feed or house themselves, seems like Charlie, in common with trump is also an admirer of Kim jong-un

WarrickDavisAsPlates · 10/04/2023 15:06

Absolutely not.

As one of the many families who have been forced to use food banks since the cost of living crisis pushed us from "normal working family" to "poor, working family unable to pay our bills and feed our children properly" I'd rather be in work than having to loose £90 having the day off for the bank holiday.

I'd love it to be a pay per view event on TV (which I won't be watching) and be funded by those who want to contribute. They could even sell advertising space to fund it. I'd be very interested to see how many people would actually contribute and pay to watch if there was an option not to.

nicetoseetgesunsout · 10/04/2023 15:10

No

newnamethanks · 10/04/2023 15:37

No, of course not. So it has to be taxpayer funded or it would be dog eared cheese sandwiches and babycham for 6 at the nearest Wspoons. Pawn a bloody crown.

DidyouNO · 10/04/2023 15:49

Yes, absolutely. As long as it's not much more than the £2 a year the monarchy receives from me. I think it's a fine, good British tradition that I don't want to see die for the sake of less than £2 per year, per tax payer.

Like the £8m of taxpayers money spent sending portraits of his mug to schools 🤦🏻‍♀️

No, but there's no need so it's a pointless question?

EliosBackPack · 10/04/2023 16:36

Not a chance in hell.

Yabadabadoooooooooooooo · 10/04/2023 17:16

No and I won't watch it either just as I never watch the funerals or the weddings. Church services are boring enough in real life without adding other people's to the list of services I must sit through.
