If the coronation was being funded by voluntary contributions would you pay towards it?

I wouldn't, I think charlie should pay for it out of his personal billions. If you would, why?

GoldenGorilla · 10/04/2023 10:33

Would I fuck.

IClaudine · 10/04/2023 10:33

No chance.

Roundandnour · 10/04/2023 10:34

Nope. Tax payers shouldn’t be paying for the paintings either.

It’s a piss take when families are really struggling.

i recently told local group to send my share of the bill back to the palace.

PatientZorro · 10/04/2023 10:35

Absolutely not.

I do think it’s a cracking idea for funding the whole ridiculous shebang though… get voluntary donations and then cut their cloth accordingly. Ha! They’d be holding it down the local pub. Might be able to stretch to a nice pig roast.

Casilero · 10/04/2023 10:35

Absolutely not. Can't stand him or his creepy brother.

Can the Yes voters tell me why please? I'm really intrigued by this aspect.

Because I am really looking forward to it and will get lots of value from watching and celebrating it. I think the government / royal family should pay for it but if it was decided that we should or it wouldn’t happen then I would want it to go ahead.

It might feel like a community thing - maybe like lots of people sent in clothing ration coupons for (at the time) Princess Elizabeth‘s wedding dress.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 10/04/2023 10:36

Is my voluntary contribution less that I would get paid for my day off?? If so hell yeah!

bellac11 · 10/04/2023 10:36

Although Im looking forward to it and will be watching it, thats because I love looking at all the bling, the pagentry, the history of it, the traditions etc etc

Equally Im indifferent in that I dont care whether there is a monarchy or not. But I certainly wouldnt be interested in any inauguration for an alternative, like a president or anything whereas I will be watching this

Having said that, if nothing was put on, I wouldnt feel there should be something different going on

Thats a long way round saying I dont mind my tax money (all 30p of it) being spent on it but wouldnt make voluntary contribution toward it either.

AnonymousArabella · 10/04/2023 10:37

No way.

Skybluepinky · 10/04/2023 10:37

No

avocadotofu · 10/04/2023 10:38

Definitely not.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 10/04/2023 10:38

A lot of the cost is for security and that is to protect the people who turn up to watch. Shouldn’t the tax payer protect the public?

Plexie · 10/04/2023 10:40

Yes. Cos it's pretty.

Also, I live in London so it feels nearby, even though I won't go on the day. Will go for a wander round the Mall and Whitehall a day or two before to see the preparations and all the other people wandering around. It's a lovely atmosphere and I love walking down the Mall when the flags are out and the traffic has been stopped - one of the best views in London and only happens occasionally so you have to take the opportunity when you can.

So as a Londoner these state events feel more accessible and on familiar territory. I probably wouldn't feel the same if I lived far away and London was a distant, unknown place.

BTW, Charles doesn't have billions.

SquashPenguin · 10/04/2023 10:40

No fucking way. They’ve got enough money to pay for it by themselves any yet still the tax payer has to fork out more. Inexcusable.

Hbh17 · 10/04/2023 10:41

Yes, absolutely. This is the continuation of 1,000 years of our history - it would be awful to lose it. I'm really looking forward to watching the Coronation - it will be a wonderful day.

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 10/04/2023 10:41

Lmfao no.

IncompleteSenten · 10/04/2023 10:42

No bloody chance.
He's got more money lost down the back of his sofa than I'll ever see in my lifetime. If I had the choice I'd say fuck right off and pay it yourself.

RoseBucket · 10/04/2023 10:42

I’m already losing money due to two bank holidays so definitely not!

Brokendaughter · 10/04/2023 10:42

Not a chance.

caringcarer · 10/04/2023 10:44

No. Unfortunately it's like income tax they just take it, whether you agree or not.

kitsuneghost · 10/04/2023 10:45

No. But there is a lot of things paid by the tax payer that I would not voluntarily give to.
But hey ho the whole point of tax is for someone else to take our money and decide what they feel should be done with it.

StagsLeap · 10/04/2023 10:50

Of course not.

It’s a lovely idea, though. Maybe someone in a bearskin could go around those baffling human tragedies who camp out overnight on royal occasion routes to wave little flags, and shake a collecting box under their noses. Given that these are seldom financially comfortable people, it might make them belatedly think about why they’re shouting ‘Gawd bless ‘is Maj!’ about someone whose privilege relies on their goodwill and tax, and who is entirely indifferent to their existence.

Timeforchangeithink · 10/04/2023 10:55

No and won't be watching either.

MrsAvocet · 10/04/2023 10:56

No. I am not "against" it, but largely disinterested. I will probably watch the highlights on tv but if the weather is decent I won't be staying in to watch it live and I won't be attending any coronation related events. And I definitely don't care enough to voluntarily spend any money on it.

BMW6 · 10/04/2023 10:56

Yes.
Massively interested in history and its an event I missed last time and probably won't live long enough for Williams ascension.
