If the coronation was being funded by voluntary contributions would you pay towards it?

I wouldn't, I think charlie should pay for it out of his personal billions. If you would, why?

No, but I like the idea of a Zoom Coronation.

MagicMatilda · 10/04/2023 12:44

Absolutely not and I like the royal family

Viviennemary · 10/04/2023 12:46

No.

ThisNameIsNotAvailable · 10/04/2023 12:48

No. To be honest I don’t even know when it is and I can’t even summon up enough fucks to google it.

I wonder how the answers would be if you were asking about other tax payer funded events/services

Public transport?
Roads?
Schools?
Prisons?
Rehab schemes?
Sports funding?
Police?
Social care?
Public events?
cycle paths?
Parks?
Nature reserves?
council housing?
Benefits?

Depends on the public events, but yes to all others.

The coronation, absolutely not.

Why be so rude and sarcastic, you must be aware that during each discussion on various forums of those publicly funded things, some people dont want to pay for them. Its not personal to you for gods sake

And that is a minor list, there are tons of things tax payers pay for that are not so obviously helpful or necessary and which cause a lot of controversy.

Why be so rude and sarcastic? Because comparing paying for someone I don’t agree with having a big party to paying for the police is too stupid to answer without sarcasm.

No taxpayer’s money shouldn’t be wasted

It's a big fat no from me

Yes, absolutely. This is the continuation of 1,000 years of our history - it would be awful to lose it. I'm really looking forward to watching the Coronation - it will be a wonderful day.

Yes - for similar reasons. I'm not a massive royalist but love the history and pageantry and want the monarchy to continue.

Marchforward · 10/04/2023 13:11

No

CottonSock · 10/04/2023 13:13

I probably would. I doubt you'd get many yes voters here though.
I'm not a royalist, but I like the sense of community that can arise from big events. I'm not even planning on watching it though, just the highlights.

MadisonAvenue · 10/04/2023 13:15

Absolutely not.
If they want this big party to celebrate a promotion then they should pay for it themselves.

Aintshesweet · 10/04/2023 13:16

In every day life, one is obliged to say yes because there is concern around the optics

in this anonymous land, one says FUCK NO

MistyGreenAndBlue · 10/04/2023 13:45

Aye. I'll chuck the old boy a quid if he's struggling. 😂

Is he doing a crowdfunder then?

He's doing some online raffle where you can win a signed robe, some commemorative tea towels and boxes of Duchy Original oat biscuits.

Does anyone have a source for the £1.85 cost?

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 10/04/2023 14:19

It was me that said £1.45 and my sources were not great. Googled uk population and cost of coronation - those estimates came up. (£100,000,000 cost and 68,800,00 people)

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 10/04/2023 14:20

I’d rather throw my money down a drain ( which come to think of it is exactly what is happening with this sh…tshow)

But won’t the population include children? And those who might be unable to donate, such as people who are disabled, very elderly or unwell etc and living in supported housing or hospital facilities?

Kanaloa · 10/04/2023 14:24

I mean I wouldn’t give him a single penny anyway so it’s irrelevant! Just questioning if it works since of course all those unable to donate like young children and people who do not have access to money will need to be removed from the equation.
