If the coronation was being funded by voluntary contributions would you pay towards it?

I wouldn't, I think charlie should pay for it out of his personal billions. If you would, why?

Gosh, you’re right! Since I don’t want to pay for a party for an incredibly wealthy man who puts himself above the rest of us people, that must mean I don’t agree with contributing towards services like police and social care that benefit the people!

I wish I could 'like' your post @Kanaloa . Hear Hear.

MrsAvocet · 10/04/2023 11:57

it is costing us £1.45 each
Yeah, but they had left over Easter eggs in our nearest supermarket for about that much this morning...chocolate or coronation...I know where I'd spend my £1.45 if I had the option!😁

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 10/04/2023 11:59

If we had a republican protest march we wouldn’t ask the protesters to pay for the police that would need to be there.

No

gazpachosoupday · 10/04/2023 12:06

I think I would, just because I want to see it.

But I wouldnt then pay for William's 10 years down the line.

I do like the suggestions of it being funded by voluntary contributions and it being a pay per view though.

If it was a choice between make the donation or it doesn't go ahead, I'd make the donation. I like the day off work, sense of community in my area on occasions like this, and generally respect the monarchy's part in our history/how it influences tourism in our country.

If it was paid for by donations though I'm not sure I'd be happy about those not donating benefiting from the bank holiday! So I think it would have to be a kind of pay-to-participate deal

I'm self - employed and not earning enough this tax year to pay tax.

Am I still allowed to have a day off please?

The govt still has to pay to police it, just as the govt will pay to police the coronation so the only difference is with the coronation, the money will be earned back.

I wouldn't. I would imagine the number of voluntary contributions might stretch to an assembly set up in a village hall somewhere. Sausage rolls and wotsits for food and the p1s can make the decorations.

No, I would rather donate my spare cash to the local foodbank.

I get that he is the Head of State, but it's pretty obscene to spend that much on a public spectacle when there are people in this country who can't afford to eat. It is very poor taste imo.

roarfeckingroarr · 10/04/2023 12:27

I might slip them a fiver. It costs a tiny amount per person.

Mostar · 10/04/2023 12:31

No chance. The only way I'd chip in is if I could pledge a negative amount, say minus £200.

With the cost of living these days, they'd be lucky to get the Wotsits.

LlynTegid · 10/04/2023 12:34

I wouldn't.

Though there are plenty of other things funded from the public purse that I would stop spending public money on first.

I thought our great leader was all in favour of protecting the environment. I can't think of anything worse than an event that causes hundreds of people to use private transport (including planes) to get to an unnecessary destination, cause MOPs to leave hundreds of tonnes of rubbish, create a security nightmare, and think of all the plastic tat sold as souvenirs that will be chucked away before the end of the day.

Surely KC should be setting an environmental example and doing it all via Zoom (other online meeting platforms are avilable). But I don't see why we should pay for any of it. Organise a street party if you like, enjoy the day how you want.

I suspect we'd have to pay for his Zoom licence too, unless they could keep it to under half an hour, which I doubt, given the amount of grovelling everyone will have to do.
