Just that really......

Mine was a few years ago and I'm still Confused whenever I think about it.

My youngest had started primary school a few months prior to the event and she had got a bit friendly with one of the other children in the class and as a result I had got to know their mum quite well, in terms of chatting in the playground anyway.

We had storm one morning on the school run and as it was much closer to my house than hers I invited her back for a cuppa till the storm passed. I put the kettle on to boil and then went to the loo, then had to take an "urgent" phone call from my eldest school for some reason or other, can't remember what exactly and it certainly wasn't an emergency.

When I was upstairs I heard some clattering around in the kitchen and then heard a sizzling noise.

When I went back downstairs she was frying bacon. She hadn't asked, I hadn't offered and it meant she had gone through my fridge and cupboards the first time she had been to my house. When I asked what she was doing she said she was hungry and hadn't eaten that day Confused

Safe to say I didn't ask her to come back after that!!

What CF behaviours have others shown in your home?

I live abroad. When DC3 was born, a friend gifted me her hardly used steam mop as I have tiled floors. I hadn't gotten around to using it yet due to being on bedrest. Mum came to stay for three weeks to help (csection delivery and it was taking me a long time to recover this time and establish BF). When she left, she said 'I've taken something. If you notice it's gone and want it back, I'll return it at Christmas.'

She's only gone and put the steam cleaner in her suitcase and taken it back to the UK!

She has carpets throughout her house too, except for the kitchen!

Did you get it back?

My DIL comes to my house we cook for her it is always something she likes as she is vegan. She sits there whilst we tidy up the dishes. She sometimes brings deserts that she likes hands one out to each of us after choosing her own first then proceeds to take home any left. She also pours herself a drink pours her DH a drink
And does not offer anyone else one!

Is DILs DH your son? Why is he sitting around whilst you tidy away the dishes? Why are you seething at her and not him? Is it because tidying away dishes us woman's work?

washinwashoutrepeat · 07/04/2023 20:28

@Emotionalsupportviper no... she always fills her luggage coming out with things for her DGC. Never enough room.

Luckily I hadn't gotten attached to it.

Where did she get the glass?

Why would you sit gaping like a goldfish at someone pouring themselves a glass of your champagne?

How do people like this get through life without being thoroughly rinsed by everyone they meet?

I don't know - but I have a bridge they might like to buy.

My SIL invited herself + family for two weeks over Christmas the year we moved to a popular tourist destination. I was also experiencing a really difficult pregnancy and barely functional. One evening before bed I had a snack of some sort and left a bowl and a glass in the otherwise spotless sink. In the morning she saw it, tutted and said “I don’t know how you can live like this. I always do the dishes before bed.”
Maybe it was just hormones giving me the irrational rage but she hasn’t been in my home unless under extreme duress since and certainly not to spend the night.

Why would you not say something like 'well I wouldn't invite myself to someone else's house for 2 weeks over Christmas. Interesting how we are all different"

Elderly woman I'd never met knocked my door and asked to have a look around my house as she'd lived in when she was a student nurse about 50yrs before.
I thought it was a bit cheeky but also quite sweet.
I did let her in and show her around... it was actually interesting as she explained to me that the house had been completely reconfigured since she lived in it as it had been a HMO for student nurses.
Cheeky? Im not sure but I wouldn't do that as I'd feel that it was.

We had similar with an elderly lady whose father built our house, she told us she was born in 'the front bedroom' and asked if she could have a look around.
She was lovely, she had some very interesting things to say about the house's history and kept thanking us for taking good care of it.

At uni, I was put in a placement about 20 miles away (each way) once a week for a few weeks. A woman in the same course who was about 15 years older than me and married but didn’t drive was on the same placement and the uni asked if I would also drive her. She would turn my music off and didn’t contribute towards petrol or parking, except on one day: I was 20p short for the parking and she gave me the 20p. She went out of her way to ask for it back the next day in class.

I sincerely hope that you gave her it back and told her she'd need it to pay her bus fare ifor the rest of the course.

A friend had an open house weekend, people staying and camping in the garden.
Friends came with their toddler and said they were popping into the town to the shop (the tiny village didn’t have a shop) and asked to leave toddler who was playing with other kids.
The didn’t come back for 9 hours. Child was inconsolable all day and just cried and cried. They just breezed in to say how great it was to have a child free day.

PIL arrived for lunch with a pre made lunch for my FIL as he couldn't possibly eat what I was making. (He had a special diet which changed every other week) Asked could it be heated up in the microwave. I said no problem. He then went to the microwave and inspected it to make sure it was clean enough. Not the worst but really riled me and still annoys me 15 years later

An electrician brought a random woman round whilst doing a job at my house for a few days for some "fun" and at my expense (I was paying for his time). I wasn't home when this happened but I caught his behaviour on cameras I had installed around my property. I wrote about it on Mumsnet at the time and I was deemed the unreasonable one because I filmed his behaviour rather than calling him out straightaway and risk having no electricity to my house if he decided not to come back.

And yes, I called him out once the job had completed but I was still the one in the wrong because Mumsnet said I was.

Moral of the story, don't tell Mumsnet about cheeky fuckery 🙃

I actually remember you posting about this ! And his cushion haha

She had already started to cook it so I just buttered some bread and made sandwiches rather than wasting it.

She probably wouldn't have wanted to come back after you gave her a buttered bacon sandwich. That's a sure fire way to end a blossoming friendship Grin

Sorry, but if YOU are eating ILLEGAL naked, dry nasty bacon sandwiches without Lurpak then you're in the wrong.

The wife of one of husband’s friends showed up to drop something off while he was at ours, brought her druggy sister along, and they invited themselves in. They stayed for quite a while and it was so awkward because the wife is very quiet and it was a struggle to find anything to talk about, and the sister kept sniffling and twitching and moving around and fidgeting and clearing her throat and scratching herself. I was very relieved when they finally left. 😛

A friend had an overnight houseguest and next day, after the guest left, found that all of her pretty guest hand towels and one bath towel were ruined by what she assumed to be copious amounts of denture adhesive (large empty container in loo trash). 🤨

When I was 15 and a very silly little kid who thought she was grown up, got involved with group a few years older than myself. My new ‘girlfriend’s’ boyfriend gave me some drugs, I didn’t have any money to pay him, and I thought that was that.
I arranged to meet my ‘friend’ the next weekend at my house. Who turned up? Her boyfriend with two other blokes. For some stupid reason I got in a car with them, they gave me something and I was pretty out of it……. and well you can guess the rest. It was my payment to him. At least they drove me home.
The thing is my ‘friend’ knew all about this. I don’t think I have ever been so hurt in the whole of my life. Talk about growing up quickly.

That’s a terrible thing to have happened to you, my heart goes out to you and I hope you’ve learned how to cope with it.

But this is way beyond a light hearted CF thread and in the nicest possible way, you might want to reconsider representing what happened to you as some kind of CF episode. It does not deserve to be trivialised along with people nicking chocolate or whatever. ❤️

I think that when sweets are available, some people's reptilian brain takes over and the impulse to take them is hard to resist.

Some of these stories are amazing. I've wracked my brain and can't recall ever being the victim of Olympic level cheekiness like most of these posts.

Oh I know, but I'm a social worker too and it's a bit of a fundamental thing that you have to check your reptilian brain in moments like this 🤣 I've been STARVING on visits before when my day's gone wrong, but wouldn't dream of this

Friends with toddler came round to see our newborn. Toddler, 5 minutes after arriving throws up all over my living room carpet and his parents say oh we thought he was ok now, he was poorly yesterday with a sickness bug. Then they ask for a bowl incase he's sick in their car and say we'll leave you to it so you can clean that up.
