Attempting to plan childcare and work around returning to uni after leaving 23 years ago. Studying a different subject and one I wanted to do originally instead of the one I did at 18.

I returned to university 18 months ago to retrain in something I've wanted to do since finishings my first degree over a decade ago (but at the time didn't want to be a poor student for another three years!)

I'm loving it!

Childcare takes up a big proportion of our income, and it's a bit of a headache working out what to do about holiday care when DD starts reception this year but it was absolutely the best decision and I'm so happy I did it.

Best of luck!

I'm hoarding family size bags of Cadbury Mini Eggs.

Paying off our mortgage. There's only a small amount to go. It'll take 6-12 months depending on if I can find a job soon.

We're on one income with two primary aged DC & live frugally. Most friends/family assume we are struggling but we are just careful with money.

We've done the same and have overpaid since it began.

Nobody else knows we're on track to pay it off in four months time, cutting the term from 16 to 8 years (we took out a smaller mortgage on a shorter term than we could have afforded). It's given us so much peace of mind knowing our biggest monthly expense will be gone in a few short months.

This thread has some really lovely posts but I also feel like a massive failure too.

I'll suck it up and still be positive though.

MerryHen · 06/04/2023 06:51

I've been intermittently fasting, following the 18:6 pattern where I fast for 18 hours and eat during a 6 hour window between 1-7pm.

I've only been doing it a few days but so far so good, the main change has been skipping breakfast and not having my usual nighttime snack. Hoping to shed the stone and half gained since having DC3 (I want my clothes to fit properly again!)

Battling depression that no one in RL knows about.

Sending hugs.
Might it help if there was someone to talk to?

PurBal · 06/04/2023 07:11

I commissioned a painting. Most expensive artwork I’ve ever bought and it’s a gift.

I’m doing two masters degrees at the moment. One of them most people are aware of, the other is a secret. Each university is unaware I’m enrolled elsewhere as both only allow concurrent candidature under strictly limited circumstances, which I didn’t meet. I feel like such a rebel 😈

Wow! How are you managing all that work?!

Alwaysworryingoversomething · 06/04/2023 07:22

I'm on a slow path to losing my sight. Diabetes related.

I haven't told anyone except my DH but he is in denial I think.
(I find it difficult seeing all the Ozempic related posts because I tried it for a few weeks and had a severe reaction so had to stop.)
I have very little self control around food and I don't know what to do.

We've been paying for the deficit the local foodbank has across the summer holidays for the last couple of years (less people donate for various reason's over summer)- not told anyone and asked the charity to keep it private. As I put my children to bed over summer - I have a sense of peace that I've done my best to ensure other little ones are ok too and their parents have been able to access what is needed. I would never seek recognition, but mention it here as I must admit the sense of peace I feel was unexpected.

What a lovely thing to do 🥰

gettingolderandgrumpier · 06/04/2023 07:36

I’m planning on running a half marathon later this year . I’ve told no one mainly because I feel if I do I’ve committed and I don’t want the oh wow comments . I suppose I feel that people will think i can’t do it and suppose I feel that too . But I’ve got a training plan and hopefully it will happen .

Tracking my dh movements daily

thinking about doing similar. also not happy with lies...not other women but pointless stuff. No idea why people lie like this

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 06/04/2023 07:48

May09Bump That's so lovely.
I found out through the grapevine that a local charity needed a specific item but were nowhere near having the funds. I bought it for them on the understanding that as few people as possible knew. I've seen the item in use and am so glad I had the means to help.

I suppose that my secret thing is now keeping an eye out for a similar thing to do again. I'm the most ordinary, slightly shabby looking older woman possible. Nobody would guess I have the means to do this.

I'm loving all the stories on here.

narkyspirit · 06/04/2023 07:51

I have bought a cottage in Wales which I am slowly doing upend moving belongings to when I have time. In September I am moving permanently there and selling property on south coast.

I'm hoarding family size bags of Cadbury Mini Eggs.

Not the point of the thread but how have you managed to get hold of mini eggs? I went on a marathon search yesterday to 6 different shops to no avail. Nowhere has them. They're like gold dust...

pollykitty · 06/04/2023 07:53

We are having a small pool installed in about a week (and revamping our entire garden). I haven’t told any friends or neighbors or work colleagues. I told my dad only because he lives in Florida and gets it. I usually don’t care what people think but I feel the people we hang out with will find it weird and be like why would you do that, so expensive blah blah blah. I have my reasons and don’t feel like justifying it to anyone (yet).

Buffypaws · 06/04/2023 07:56

our mattress went mouldy soon after we bought it as our flat is damp and DP keeps saying we can’t afford to replace it. 4 years later he’s on holiday and I’ve replaced it. Will see if he notices a difference.

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 06/04/2023 08:01

@MerryHen thanks so much! I'm hoping it will all work out! Stressful at the min though! X

Snailsaresweet · 06/04/2023 08:02

I had 3 additional piercings on my ears a few weeks ago - told no-one, and no-one has noticed. Still happy I did it, though! I'm also slowly losing weight, and haven't told anyone either.

juless77 · 06/04/2023 08:06

I only work 4 days a week instead of 5 told DH but no one else as I want that as a ME day
