Autistic women assemble!

...only if and when you're not feeling antisocial and want the entire world to +%$¥ off, or course. 😉😆

A few of us were talking on another thread and thought it would be nice to have a support/ chat thread on here to share interests/ challenges/ parenting issues or whatever we feel like. A little community of autistic women on here that we can dip in and out of but will be supportive and friendly and people who actually get it.

Might also be a nice counterbalance to all of the horrific posts about autism that we find here so regularly!!

P.S. Have deliberately posted this in chat rather than in the ND Mumsnetters topic because it will hopefully reach more people who would like to join in. I didn't even realise that section existed for a long time and often miss threads there as they don't show in active and expect I'm not alone in that. However, in posting this here, we will be relying on the people with obnoxious and ignorant views about autism who so regularly post on Mumsnet, to demonstrate to us their allegedly superior empathy (ha!) and please just leave this thread alone: it's not for you. Many thanks!!

@Nepmarthiturn - hospital is not kind to us is it? When I had my daughter I had to go in from a planned home birth, and almost from the moment she was delivered I was trying to get home as it was just sensory hell. I didn't even know I was Autistic then but I knew I needed to get out of there.

It is awful.

I had to be in hospital as I had C sections and both times I ended up downing water straight after the birth so I could do the requisite amount of wee to be allowed to leave as soon as physically possible, sacrificing the morphine supply to come home still in extreme pain just to escape the absolute sensory hell of it.

Oh wow, must not show my son this or I'll go bankrupt! We are doing the Chamber of Secrets one.

@TheShellBeach pretty cat, I miss a cat, my dog is not cat friendly at all and I miss the feline energy. Always had dogs and cats together in the past but alas not meant to be this time. Is this your only one or do you have more?

I have Linney as well.

@Nepmarthiturn brilliant beach pics!

Thank you! Mostly from back before I had children and could afford regular holidays. 🤣

My son really wants the whole castle and the diagon alley set. We discussed how he could get a job in the lego shop when he was an adult and get a staff discount!! That's his life goal eight now, when he's not planning to be a YouTuber!!

Nepmarthiturn · 06/04/2023 19:52

@Queenelsarules this is a brilliant life ambition. I wish I'd had the foresight to think of that!! I wonder if they'd give me a job just for an hour per week. 🤣

I remember having the lego castle and pirate ship as a child but they can't have cost anything like what they do for the big sets now in equivalent terms or my parents would never have got them for us. It is bonkers how much they cost now!

My son is also currently building the international space station kit and very proud that it says on the box that it's for 16 years old and he is 6. 😆

Thank you for the welcome. I'm loving these beach pics. Very calming.

My happy place is sitting infront of my sewing machine listening to the sound of my favourite TV shows on repeat.

Oh lovely. What do you make?

im on this thread already but I have name changed for this post as I always assume when I post about my dog or my photos of Scotland that it’s obvious who I am!

Here after much deliberation- would be great to have a group!

FriendsDrinkBook · 06/04/2023 20:32

I make my own clothing. Most recently I made this oversized soft jersey top.

Oh wow. I am always so impressed by people with practical skills who can make things that would take me around 10bn years to do like the hypothetical monkeys left in a room to come up with Shakespeare. 🫣😆

This looks great!

Do you know me??? If so, any clues who you are??

JarByTheDoor · 06/04/2023 21:04

Yep Dug we know each other IRL (via MN) — I spent a few years near where you live. No idea which other username is you, though, so your MN identity is still safe Grin

@Nepmarthiturn It is a very useful skill to have when most highstreet clothing makes you itch or just feels wrong!
