How will I ever lose weight when I’m always fucking starving 😩

DonnaRix · 03/04/2023 18:57

I’m not talking slightly peckish. I’m talking proper nauseous, shaky-with-hunger hunger. Comes out of nowhere and hits me like a tonne of bricks.

Im a size 14 and I cannot be a size 14, I am too short. I am mortified with myself. I need to lose the weight. But I just get so ravenous so quickly and I end up cramming carbs in just to fill up.

Please tell me what to do 😩 other than sew my own mouth shut.

I fast from 6 pm to 12 noon, only drinking water and I swear I am never hungry, when I used to eat breakfast I would be starving an hour later. It seems once I start eating I feel the need to continue. Good luck, you will find a way.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 03/04/2023 19:05

Would it help to keep small snacks prepared? So nuts, fruit etc when you start to feel very hungry you can have those to stop you getting ravenous?

IDontWantToBeAPie · 03/04/2023 19:05

Also try looking for food that slow releases more like porridge etc that keeps you fuller for longer.

Arcadia · 03/04/2023 19:06

If you cut down on sugar and highly processed foods then your blood sugars will level out and you won't get so starving! I read the 'why we eat too much' book and it really helped me to eat less but not feel hungry. Also more protein and fibre helps.
Replace white rice with brown, have whole meal pasta, nuts for snacks not crisps etc
You can get blood sugar monitors now so that you can check what causes you to crash then spike, as different foods affect people differently.

Exactly, I replaced granola with oats plus seeds/fruit each day and I didn't need a morning snack anymore

Nimbostratus100 · 03/04/2023 19:08

cut out sugar and cut out processed carbs, eat more protein and fibre

you just have to go through the first three days of hunger, then it stops

EggyBreads · 03/04/2023 19:10

Prioritise protein. That will knock your hunger on the head.

SecretVictoria · 03/04/2023 19:10

I’d be cautious with porridge; doesn’t fill me up at all. Always hungry in less than a hour! Eggs keep me full, I do low-carb, high-fat when I want to lose weight and find I’m rarely hungry on that.

ScottishBeth · 03/04/2023 19:11

Agree with others. If I'm hungry I have fruit and yoghurt or peanut butter on toast. The protein helps me feel fuller, I think.

Stravawindow · 03/04/2023 19:12

What do you eat? What’s a typical day?

I eat lots of protein and fat and lower my carbs. I don’t get hungry.

AnnieSaxophone · 03/04/2023 19:13

Do you exercise at all? If I do 3 little runs a week, my blood sugar levels seem to level out. If I don’t, then all I can think about is food!

I did None to Run rather than couch to 5k - still free and very very helpful!

StuntNun · 03/04/2023 19:14

It sounds like you could be insulin resistant in which case trying a low carb or keto approach might reduce your hunger to manageable levels.

LadyAstor · 03/04/2023 19:15

Have a look at low carbing. It's great for curbing cravings once you get past day four. That, combined with fasting - 18:6 is good - will soon see you lose weight painlessly.

DonnaRix · 03/04/2023 19:16

Oh I’m a crap eater. I am time poor and know fuck all about how to eat, in all honesty.

Typical working day - Coffee till 11am. Snack of Banana or box of grapes. Lunch is usually a sandwich with ham or chicken and a packet of snack a jacks. Coffee/tea till 5pm, and I’ll maybe make myself like beans on toast or cereal or pasta later on.

yup. Awful.

Read "Why we eat too much" it explains the glucose / insulin rollercoaster.

Low carb is a great way to get rid of hunger but there's a brutal few days at the beginning

Rollercoastertycoon · 03/04/2023 19:19

What do you actually eat just now?

Despite what most on MN would tell you, living off next to nothing all day is NOT what you need. Eating a proper amount and losing weight slowly is the way to go.

I do agree with less processed food and more protein, fruit and veg.

How is your sleep? Lack of sleep is linked to increased appetite.

TomeTome · 03/04/2023 19:19

Chia pudding

Bessica1970 · 03/04/2023 19:19

Saxenda or Ozempic if you can afford them. I pay £150 per month but probably save more than that in food I’m not buying!
It has been a complete game changer for me

TroysMammy · 03/04/2023 19:21

I'm like you OP always starving, I joke I must have worms. Porridge doesn't fill me up at all. On a work day I have breakfast at 7am and have to have 2 slices of toast and cereal to fill me up until lunchtime which for me is 11.20-12.20. I then have sandwiches and crisps and maybe a yogurt,

however there is always biscuits and chocolate in work which somehow find their way to my mouth. I finish work at 6.30pm and thanks to a lovely DP evening meal is no later than 7pm.

When I was 7 1/2 stone I was always starving which is probably why I'm now 10 1/2 stone.

lljkk · 03/04/2023 19:21

Coffee till 11am. So like, 50 kcal?
Snack of Banana or box of grapes Another 100 kcal
Lunch is usually a sandwich with ham or chicken and a packet of snack a jacks. Maybe 600 kcal
Coffee/tea till 5pm max 50 kcal
beans on toast or cereal or pasta later on. So like another 400 kcal?

OP is not describing more than 1200 kcal.

And it's not even bad quality. What are you leaving out, OP?

Rollercoastertycoon · 03/04/2023 19:22

Reading your update, you need to eat better. Not less.

If you really have no idea where to begin, something like Slimming World or weight watchers could help you. I started SW this year and it is basically healthy eating.

Lsmummy1 · 03/04/2023 19:29

Although it's hard at first and takes some getting used too, I would say intermittent fasting has been the biggest thing to regulate my appetite.

Used to be starving hungry an hour after breakfast and shaking from hunger come 4pm. I won't pretend I don't sometimes feel hungry when fasting, but it is so manageable and seems to regulate my appetite for the rest of the day

DonnaRix · 03/04/2023 19:32

What am I missing out? I dunno. I might have some chocolate of an evening. And wine. Not every night and not that much, but some, particularly at the weekend. We might get a takeaway at the weekend but never more than one and never midweek. I have a lot of guilt and misery about eating.

I am interested in this fasting thing I must say. Can you tell me more?

Protein protein protein! More protein earlier in the day. If you don't have time, you can get nutty protein bars (look at the BeKind ones) or you can get greek yoghurt in mini sizes, you can get protein weetabix -anything to give you more protein. I wouldn't suggest shakes or the protein chocolate bars as its not 'real' food really. Then at lunch, switch out your crisps for some fruit or yoghurt?

I know some people find endo is worse with certain foods tho so maybe people will have some suggestions for you.
Oh and start drinking water like mad - buy a litre bottle and carry it round with you - aim for one litre at first. If you are hungry outside of meals, chug a glass of water and wait half an hour first. I was like you, ALWAYS hungry and drinking loads water has honestly helped massively.
Figure out your triggers - is it boredom, lack of forward planning, lack of decent food storage, lack of decent options? You'll get loads of suggestions on here.
