How will I ever lose weight when I’m always fucking starving 😩

DonnaRix · 03/04/2023 18:57

I’m not talking slightly peckish. I’m talking proper nauseous, shaky-with-hunger hunger. Comes out of nowhere and hits me like a tonne of bricks.

Im a size 14 and I cannot be a size 14, I am too short. I am mortified with myself. I need to lose the weight. But I just get so ravenous so quickly and I end up cramming carbs in just to fill up.

Please tell me what to do 😩 other than sew my own mouth shut.

Do you drink any water at all or only tea and coffee? Do you take milk in your coffee?

Everybody keeps saying eat more protein but can you be a bit more specific? Oats don't fill me up, two eggs on toast dont, a big carton of yoghurt doesn't either and I'm the same as OP. Hungry 2 hours later and if I don't eat anything then I get the shakes and dizziness. Its been worse since I was on ( now off ) steroids. Its awful.

I find I'm better if I fast until lunch but an ideal day for me without fasting is

Breakfast - Greek full fat yoghurt, some crushed nuts, berries
Snack - babybel or boiled egg or piece of cheese and an apple
Lunch - salad with chicken and a dressing (not a low fat one) or an omelette with mushrooms cheese and ham plus salad/veg on the side
Tea - meat and veg or I have something like cottage pie and veg

Find that during the day I have to load protein then the evenings I'm not as hungry and it doesn't trigger me if I do have carbs to then eat more

StandUpStraight · 03/04/2023 21:59

Sorry I should have said I’m aiming for that per pound of ideal body weight. Relentless has some good suggestions for how to achieve it and you definitely have to break it up over the day or you won’t achieve it.
I also use an organic grass fed whey protein powder.

Divebar2021 · 03/04/2023 22:00

Read Tim Spectors book

well you can go one step further and sign up for the Zoe plan - you get 2 weeks with a glucose monitor and have a number of tests completed to analyse your gut health and your own responses to sugar and fat. You then can see which foods are best for preventing those blood sugar spikes and improve gut health. It’s not cheap but I’m finding it’s giving me a path forward. Im definitely not reaching for the snacks in the way I would be. I eat fruit, nuts veggies, full fat Greek yoghurt, fish and some meat, whole grain pasta etc but what works for me may not work for you… but worth at his book / interviews in any case.

This is what I had today @Pixiedust1234

Tried to add a screen shot of macros but it won't let me upload anymore.

Worked out 47% protein, 37% carbs, 16% fat.

Just milk in tea and coffee. I do drink a lot of coffee when I’m working (I also have a very sedentary desk job).

No I don’t drink enough water. I can’t seem to get into the habit of it I don’t enjoy it but recognise that I need to change that.

I love this thread. Thanks for starting it op!

Eyerollcentral · 03/04/2023 22:12

Cut the coffee right down and substitute in the water. Could you try drinking sparkling water or squash (no sugar versions)? Eat your evening meal as early as you can and eat a breakfast. You don’t actually appear to be eating that much and as everyone else has said less carbs more protein

Eyerollcentral · 03/04/2023 22:13

I get falling out of the way of exercise due to illness, I have a chronic condition and the same happened to me although I have recently been able to re establish my gym routine. Prioritise getting 10k steps a day for now.

ohnonotyetplease · 03/04/2023 22:13

Fasting is actually pretty damn amazing
I ruined my metabolism by dieting my entire life but intermittent fasting is giving me more energy, helping me drop some weight, helping my skin, my blood sugar is stable....
It's very interesting to research it. One of the most health giving things you can do for yourself.
The only caveat is you HAVE to 'fast clean'. That means only black tea, black coffee or water in the fasting period. Anything else scuppers it/stops it working and you end up horribly hungry.
Gin Stephens Fast Feast Repeat is very good reading on the subject 😊

I'm was also about to recommend the same.

I'd concentrate on hitting 10K steps a day for now and not worry about any other form of exercise. (Maybe swimming it's a great cardio workout that's not too impactful on the body) If you are carrying more weight than you are comfortable with anything High Intensity work outs will potentially give you an injury/make you feel shit.

Please don't join slimming world their advice is absolutely shocking!!

In what way do you think it's shocking? I bet it's the avacados and mashed bananas.

Viviennemary · 03/04/2023 22:18

Cuttingn right down on bread helped me. Also avoid eating after evening meal.

confusedallthetime1 · 03/04/2023 22:18

No it's the fact they say you can eat as much 'free food' as you like. It's a fucking cult

DonnaRix · 03/04/2023 22:19

God I love an avocado. Made smashed avocado on seeded bread for lunch thinking it was nice and healthy and when I checked the calories I nearly passed away

Thank you! I joined 3 weeks ago and have decided to do my own thing because the advice is really unhealthy and purely designed for you to lose weight, eat normally again, gain weight, and the cycle begins. The amount of merchandise at the meetings too; books/hi fi bars etc. All a con imo!

It's really annoying because slimming worlds works, BUT it is a really unhealthy and obsessive way to lose weight! I have done it 3 times and yes I've lost weight and feel great, but can't keep it up without being totally obsessed with food and the scales. I also couldn't stand going to group, strangers clapping because I've lost 1lb!!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 03/04/2023 22:23

@ohnonotyetplease can you have sweeteners in coffee?

They do not say you can eat as much free food as you want, if anyone is saying that they are incorrect, that's not how SW works. Free foods have to be in balance with protein and veg so a third of each.

To be fair mich as I love SW there's no way I could go to groups , I do it on line with the app. If anyone clapped me I'd roll my eyes so much they'd fall out 😂

I've been a stone overweight ( and I mean above max BMI) and after an indulgent Christmas it was creeping even higher. The thing that motivated me most was I was getting so bloody slow at Parkrun 5km, people assumed I was a plucky fat beginner.

I bought Fast Keto and have developed my own daily diet mostly carb free, I've lost 9lb in about 7 weeks which is amazing for me.

Breakfast- 2 scrambled eggs with smoked salmon or if going into work full fat greek yoghurt with chocolate protein powder and some nuts
Lunch - usually some sort of salad based around chicken with lots of exciting veg such as tinned artichokes. As i'm mostly focused on cutting carbs rather than calories, I add mayonnaise
Dinner- what the rest of the family is having minus the carbs

snacks- either Aldi chocolate mousse protein one , a Bounce bar or small bag of nuts.

If I go out for a meal, I'll just avoid the carbs.

I've reduced the amount of exercise I do so I can meal prep a bit more.

ConstanceOcean · 03/04/2023 22:37

Do not diet.
Do not cut any food groups out.
Do not fast.

The more you do these things the more our body goes into panic mode and we feel like we’re starving.

The idea is to have meals that are big in volume but low in calories.
These are meals full of veggies and some protein.

I basically meal prep and make a large portion of something for lunch and dinner and have this over a couple of days.
I portion it out so all I have to do it grab it in the morning and go and then heat it up when I get home.

I will have a large cup of tea when I get home (not too much milk or sugar) which fills me up before dinner time.

Snacks are sugar free jelly, ice poles, popcorn, mini sausages or fruit.

The best thing to do is download my fitness pal and track everything you eat.
If you get into a habit of planning 3 meals and 2 snacks a day it is much easier to eat mindfully and then you will lose weight because you are fuelling your body properly and not going hungry.

ehb102 · 03/04/2023 22:47

You sound like you have ingested diet culture and you think you should starve until you are thin enough to deserve to eat. That's not how sustainable weight loss happens. You want to create just enough of a calorie deficit that you don't feel hungry so you can stick to it. How you do that is up to you. Some people can naturally create that deficit following a plan like intermittent fasting or keto. Some of us can't and we count calories. Whatever scheme you chose, the better quality the food you eat the easier staying in that deficit is. High protein, low GI carbs, some fat, lots of bulk is my plan, but I'm an active fat woman.

It requires thought and effort. Otherwise it's back to the unhealthy 1970s style of being hungry on a limited diet. If you find your Basal Metabolic Rate and then work out your energy needs according to activity you will probably lose weight eating rubbish, if you can stay in deficit of 250-500 calories a day. You might feel awful though.

stepstepstep · 03/04/2023 22:50

You’re starving because you’re starving yourself and the more you do it the more your body will fight you.

just listened to this today - an interview with the doctor responsible for the Ozempic trials - pretty clear about why calorie counting diets don’t work (and by the way why you shouldn’t take Ozempic unless you are prescribed it). Hope the link works.

Try Patrick Holford Low GL diet. I need to go back on it tbh. I have issues with blood sugar levels & it really does work.
