How will I ever lose weight when I’m always fucking starving 😩

DonnaRix · 03/04/2023 18:57

I’m not talking slightly peckish. I’m talking proper nauseous, shaky-with-hunger hunger. Comes out of nowhere and hits me like a tonne of bricks.

Im a size 14 and I cannot be a size 14, I am too short. I am mortified with myself. I need to lose the weight. But I just get so ravenous so quickly and I end up cramming carbs in just to fill up.

Please tell me what to do 😩 other than sew my own mouth shut.

Fucking he'll you hardly eat anything no wonder you're starving.

Loads of protein but also some carbs, don't cut anything out as you'll crave it.

Eggs and lean meat, yogurt and pulses are fab for filling you up.

Protein!!!
have at least 20g in every meal (there are ways work out how much you need based on weight but as a start 20g is the way to go).
Up your steps - her a Fitbit and try and reach a target each day - work out what your normal steps would be and then aim to add a few thousand to it - when you e managed that add a few more.
drinks lots of water.
don’t restrict too much as that’s why you’re starving and binging - it’s better to make small and slower changes that allow weight ti come off and not let it go back on! Good luck!

ClassicLib · 03/04/2023 21:04

Make a big bowl of chopped raw veggies. Colourful peppers, sugar snaps, carrots, cucumber, peppery radishes, peeled chopped broccoli stems etc etc. Keep in the fridge. Then get a tub of low fat hummus or make some spicy salsa to use as dips. Whenever you feel peckish, eat as much of this as you want.

Also try looking for food that slow releases more like porridge etc that keeps you fuller for longer.

Oh no definitely not porridge to keep you full. Whenever I eat porridge I'm ravenous a short time later.

Thank you! I joined 3 weeks ago and have decided to do my own thing because the advice is really unhealthy and purely designed for you to lose weight, eat normally again, gain weight, and the cycle begins. The amount of merchandise at the meetings too; books/hi fi bars etc. All a con imo!

stevalnamechanger · 03/04/2023 21:11

Drink more water

Eat more protein

Ilkleymoor · 03/04/2023 21:12

Are you tired? I never gained any weight until I was exhausted by being a parent and then ate junk basically to stay awake. Once I could sleep more normally, I lost a stone with very little effort and only restricting some crap. It's noticeable how quickly I get hungry and angry when I'm over tired. I now self.medicate.with sleep and not food.

caringcarer · 03/04/2023 21:22

Eat more protein it keeps you feeling full for longer. Drink loads of water. I also find if I clean my teeth I tend not to.eat for a while afterwards.

Pixiedust1234 · 03/04/2023 21:24

Everybody keeps saying eat more protein but can you be a bit more specific? Oats don't fill me up, two eggs on toast dont, a big carton of yoghurt doesn't either and I'm the same as OP. Hungry 2 hours later and if I don't eat anything then I get the shakes and dizziness. Its been worse since I was on ( now off ) steroids. Its awful.

Stravawindow · 03/04/2023 19:12

What do you eat? What’s a typical day?

I eat lots of protein and fat and lower my carbs. I don’t get hungry.

Stravawindow I’m also trying to lower my carbs and increase protein. What do you eat?

StandUpStraight · 03/04/2023 21:35

Your diet is completely lacking in protein and healthy fats. I agree with the previous posters who said protein, protein, protein. It is simply more satiating and it is extremely
important as we age. Your diet of easily digested carbs is also sending your blood sugar through the roof several times a day and that is in itself causing the hunger and the cravings. Certainly read Why We Eat (Too Much) and also read The Glucose Revolution (or check out the author on Instagram - glucose goddess). Life changing hacks that are not difficult and will completely get your hunger pangs under control.

StandUpStraight · 03/04/2023 21:36

Start your day with savoury protein - eggs, leftovers from supper - avoid cereals and toast like the plague and if you have fruit, have it with Greek yoghurt to blunt the glucose spike.

YouJustDoYou · 03/04/2023 21:37

I find it all so soul-sucking. No joy in life trying to shift this fat.

Katiecoffee · 03/04/2023 21:39

Slow release carbs and protein is the key. I am always starving!!

My breakfast now is either overnight oats or porridge with fruit. A banana and a chunk of cheese mid morning. Lunch is usually a salad with lots of protein - salmon or chicken, fruit and a protein rich pudding. Mid afternoon I'll have another high protein snack - usually another protein pudding or some ham. Then dinner is something like shepherds pie, veg and fruit. I always have fruit to snack on - I get through loads of melon. And flavoured water - I drink loads.

My treat is usually either a glass of wine and some chocolate or a hot chocolate (made with real chocolate) at night.

I find the more protein I eat the less hungry I am. But the porridge or overnight oats in a morning make a huge difference. I'm not a breakfast person so take them to work with me to eat at around 10am.

You’re not wrong.

But I’m so embarrassed and ashamed of how I look.

Have some boiled eggs ready for when you are hungry, and eat one.

SquashPenguin · 03/04/2023 21:46

Low carb all the way. No sugar spikes so no sugar crashes. You don’t get hungry and crave shit. The first few days are grim but it’s so worth it when you adjust.

BaconAndAvocado · 03/04/2023 21:47

It’s easy (and enjoyable) putting on weight but there’s no easy way to lose weight.
Set yourself a goal and just do it.
Once you get into the zone and start seeing weight come off it will spur you on.
Good luck.

lljkk · 03/04/2023 21:51

Hmmm... protein estimates... depends if OP takes milk with her coffee. I'll assume not.

Snack of Banana 1.3 g
sandwich with ham or chicken (assume 2 slices bread, 40g ham, butter) -> 2.2 + 8 g = 10.2 g
a packet of snack a jacks. 1.5 g
beans on toast, suppose that's 1.5 slices toast, butter & 150g baked beans: 1.8 + 6.2 = 8 g protein
/or/
cereal (call this 100 grams cornflakes & 6 oz milk): 8g + 6g = 14g

1.3 + 1.5 + 10.2 + 11g (average 14 & 8 g )

I'm wondering if I got that right because 24 g/day seems especially low. Like malnutrition low, but what do I know.

Lcb123 · 03/04/2023 21:51

Read Tim Spectors book. All this ultra processed food is so awful for you. Switch to a diet focused on fruit, veg, nuts, whole grains. Plan all your eating and prep ahead so you don’t get tempted to grab rubbish. Try and have as long as possible between eating at night and in the morning

StandUpStraight · 03/04/2023 21:53

The RDA of protein is not optimal. I aim for 0.8g per kilogram of ideal body weight.

Ok, to be more specific:

I'd eat 2 whole eggs and 3 egg whites scrambled if I was eating eggs for breakfast, (with some toast).

1 egg, 70 cals, 7g protein
1 egg white, 17 calories, 4g of protein.
So 2 x eggs would be 140kcals, 14g protein
2x eggs with 3xegg whites is 191 kcals, 21g protein.
(so for only 51 extra cals, you've added 12g protein)

20g of protein is the absolute minimum I'd aim to eat at a meal.
I'd also sometimes have smoked salmon or bacon or cheese with the eggs to increase the protein further.

Basically, I aim to eat 100g of protein as an absolute minimum a day, and if you've only got 3 meals and maybe one snack to do it in, you've got to put your back into it and not miss the opportunity to get it into meals.

Similarly, how much protein is in the yogurt you are choosing?
Yeo valley organic yogurt, a good quality nice tasty yogurt, as an example, is 98kcals, 4.5g of protein per 100g.
Fage total o% yogurt is 54 cals, 10g protein per 100g
So half the calories and more than double the protein of the Yeo Valley
I'd eat half a pot of that, which would be about 130 kcals, 25g of protein, with some raspberries and banana too.
(Or an Aldi Protein yogurt, which is 129kcals and 25p protein per pot)

I hope that helps@Pixiedust1234

@DonnaRix I suspect you’re going to have to cut out the coffee and tea. How many cups of each, and what do you put in them?
