How will I ever lose weight when I’m always fucking starving 😩

I’m not talking slightly peckish. I’m talking proper nauseous, shaky-with-hunger hunger. Comes out of nowhere and hits me like a tonne of bricks.

Im a size 14 and I cannot be a size 14, I am too short. I am mortified with myself. I need to lose the weight. But I just get so ravenous so quickly and I end up cramming carbs in just to fill up.

Please tell me what to do 😩 other than sew my own mouth shut.

This thread has given me some good ideas. Woke up today feeling bad about my weight. I survived one successful day of healthy dieting then yesterday ate sweets and crisps. ALL of my extra weight is due to snacking, not heavy meals. It’s hard not to feel self-loathing at times. 😖

Now I don’t eat until about 11. I have a couple of cubes of cheese and a boiled egg.

That's possibly one of the saddest things I've read.

Why?

I often used to have a one egg cheese omlette for breakfast, fills you up

Unlike others on here I cant eat first thing, I have to wait until late morning, just cant stomach food that early

ArcticSkewer · 03/04/2023 20:00

Weirdly I am always starving for carbs when I am folate deficient. After a week of supplements my appetite just goes.

Worth trying some decent vitamin supplements perhaps? Along with some of the other tips here.

See if I have soup or a salad for lunch I am STARVING an hour later. Starving.

Here you go, made a few assumptions on type of bread and stuff but this is your typical day as a breakdown.

Not enough calories and pretty much all carbs

How will I ever lose weight when I’m always fucking starving 😩

@bellac11 Just because there has to be something more appealing that a boiled egg and a cube of cheese. It's just depressing.

NoEffingWay · 03/04/2023 20:01

Calorie counting works for me.

Weighing my food stops me overeating portion wise.

I have stopped drinking wine, and have a few vodka and diet cokes a week.

Once I started calorie counting and weighing food I realised how much I was overeating regularly.

Over two stone down in 7 months.

Lapland123 · 03/04/2023 20:03

Eggs, high protein, no processed foods
plus
saxenda/ Ozempic to kill that hunger off completely

I mean I fucking love cheese in all its forms so it works for me. The boiled egg is more utilitarian admittedly. It does the job and I don’t get the shakes from hunger anymore, so I’m happy enough. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But yeah, cheese is amazing.

Yep me too I've not bought food for two weeks. Hunger completely gone.

I really hope that’s a joke. Sounds horrific and dangerous.

Perhaps for you. I love cheese, Im like a big mouse. Ive just had some chunks of cheese as a snack.

I cant eat eggs at the moment but I absolutely love a boiled egg, each bite dipped in a bit of salt.

Its not 'depressing' what an odd way to describe someones breakfast!!!

If you’ve only just started the dieting this could well be normal. I lost 5kg last summer (but about 25% back on) and I found I was ravenous the first week or maybe 10 days. I lost it by calorie counting and making sure I was doing 250 calories exercise most days, and balancing the macros is really important for me. If I have enough protein then staying under 1400 calories is no problem, if I’m carb heavy it’s a nightmare.

I'm 55 and for 30 years I tried every diet going - I totally messed up my metabolism and I was always hungry. I do believe that different diets work for different people - for me Intermittent Fasting has been a miracle. I also follow Gin Stephen's clean fasting - I have lost 2 stone in the last year (12 stone down to 10 stone) and it has been effortless. I am eating more now than I have in years. My body shape has changed hugely - I always carried weight on my hips and thighs and for the first time ever I have been able to lose weight there. When someone first told me about IF I thought it sounded horrendous/nuts and thought that there was no way I would like eating for only 5/6 hours a day but it has truly given me such freedom and peace of mind. I know it's not for everyone but it might be worth considering.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/04/2023 20:07

Nothing wrong with cheese or eggs, a good boiled egg is food of the Gods.

twoundertwowho · 03/04/2023 20:18

Carbs make you hungry if you're insulin resistant. You need to massively up your protein intake, 1-2 grams of protein per kg of body weight per day!

They didn’t say they hadn’t eaten for two weeks - but haven’t bought food.
Sax/Oz stop you Impulse buying food because they take away desire for food.
Greensleeve is probably eating from the store cupboard rather than eating snacks and takeaways

LovingLivingLife · 03/04/2023 20:32

I would recommend making small, sustainable changes. Make yourself a food log of exactly what you are eating, you might be quite surprised when you review it. Personally I used an app called my fitness Pal. Then look at what changes you can make to improve the quality of your food and gradually decrease the quality.

Fad diets might be a quick fix but the weightless never lasts long.

Are you getting much exercise? I have quite a sedentary job so I worked quite hard at including movement into my day.

LovingLivingLife · 03/04/2023 20:33

Decrease the quantity

Drink 2 litres of water , black coffee or herbal tea

Cup a soup or a stick cube drink if needed

I'm short and I'm constantly hungry but I've learnt to control it , my maintenance calories must be so low because I gain weight really easily 😣😣

HotSince82 · 03/04/2023 20:38

Honestly? Just go full on, balls to the wall keto.

Maple2023 · 03/04/2023 20:44

This is helpful, about adding rather than taking away
So have an apple but add a bit of peanut butter or green yoghurt
Loads of veg always helps me, I add a bag of steam veg onto everything I eat

Cherry2456 · 03/04/2023 20:50

Some people produce more of the hunger hormone ghrelin than others due to their genetics. This hormone signals to your brain that you are hungry. If you ignore it your primal hunger will set in and you will find it hard not to gauged on food. To reduce ghrelin levels you will need to eat foods high in proteins and complex carbohydrates such porridge, brown rice etc Stay away from processed foods.

Applesinmyhouse · 03/04/2023 20:56

Eggs on sourdough for breakfast

Salad with a whole chicken breast or fish, or a sandwich with cheese and salad, can be any cheese. Have wholegrain bread if you can tolerate it.

chicken/fish/pork with sweet potato and roast vegetables for dinner or a stir fry.

You won’t be hungry.

RelentlessForwardProgress · 03/04/2023 20:57

You are very deficient in protein in your diet.

There are some new studies coming out that suggest that the body craves food until it has met its protein needs.....if you are eating protein rich meals, you will feel less hungry.

Also, studies suggest we tend to eat the same volume of food in a day regardless of its calorie content. So if you eat low energy dense food with meals, you can pad them out to feel properly full without going over a calorie limit too much.

The 'problem' with IF is that the body only absorbs a certain amount of protein at a time, and if you spread your eating out over the day, you will absorb more protein.

So for me, the best thing is, protein rich, calorie controlled breakfast, protein rich, calorie controlled lunch, dinner the same, all with some low density food in the mix. I have treats and / or crappy food after that protein rich dinner so any blood sugar spikes happen when I'm asleep not near the fridge!

Eg. breakfast would be egg on toast, with a sliced apple. Lots of protein, some fibre and filling from the apple

Similarly for lunch, today I was at a place where they had 3 toasted sandwich options; 3 cheeses, chicken club or beetroot and falafel. I went with the chicken club because the 3 cheeses had lots of fat, not a lot of protein and no fibre, the beetroot and falafel had lots of fibre but not a lot of protein, the chicken club had lots of protein and fibre in the salady bits.

MobilityCat · 03/04/2023 20:57

I don't eat breakfast or lunch so I can eat anything I want for supper.
