How will I ever lose weight when I’m always fucking starving 😩

DonnaRix · 03/04/2023 18:57

I’m not talking slightly peckish. I’m talking proper nauseous, shaky-with-hunger hunger. Comes out of nowhere and hits me like a tonne of bricks.

Im a size 14 and I cannot be a size 14, I am too short. I am mortified with myself. I need to lose the weight. But I just get so ravenous so quickly and I end up cramming carbs in just to fill up.

Please tell me what to do 😩 other than sew my own mouth shut.

The 'why we eat too much' book is on the Amazon 99p kindle sale today, which I saw moments after reading this thread. What a coincidence. I have bought it, thanks for the recommendations :)

CornishGem1975 · 03/04/2023 19:36

I hear you! Literally doesn't matter what 'tips and tricks' and diets I follow. I could drink 27 litres of water and not be full. I am always hungry. I don't want to eat shitty protein bars and shakes etc. That's not real life. Who wants to live like that - not me, which is why I am overweight!

@TroysMammy·I was about to say, I think I have a giant worm in there 😁

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 03/04/2023 19:42

You have very little protein or fat in that example of a days food. Without those you will be hungry.

Full fat Greek yoghurt with your banana would make it more filling so you don't want to snack later and would give you less of a sugar spike.

Full fat cottage cheese (Langley farms brand is a revelation, it's bloody lovely) with ryvita or other seeded crackers for lunch.

Heroicallyfound · 03/04/2023 19:42

Sounds like you’re not eating nearly enough - could your body be going into starvation/conserve-everything-it’s-got kind of mode? You’re drip feeding yourself tiny amounts so the body isn’t going to go into a helpful fasting mode and it isn’t going to feel satisfied either.

Up your protein - I find I work best on egg and bacon in the morning!

Check out Dr Mindy Peltz - Fast Like a Girl - and Dr Eric Berg on intermitent fasting. I find I’m ravenous about 7hrs into a fast but once I pass that hurdle my hunger vanishes.

Also consider if you’re actually hungry or if you’re experiencing sugar/caffeine withdrawal? Because that can make you feel like crap but if you can make it 3 days and it’s out of your system you start to feel great.

Join the low carp boot camp thread!!
keto is the only thing that EVER worked for me. I’ve worked out, kept at 1200 kcals, it did not work and I was starving and sad. Maybe I’m a miracle of science but that kcals in/out equation just doesn’t work on my body. When I first tried keto it was about the first time in my life I could “forget” meals as I just wasn’t hungry, for about the first time ever.

I eat semi carby now but the weight has actually stayed off as my habits are better and I’m never that ravenous person I used to be. 40 years old and finally cracked the sodding code.

Hellosinktap · 03/04/2023 19:43

Sorry if someone has suggested it already, but could you be deficient in something?

Also, are you sure you’re eating enough to stay healthy?

Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 03/04/2023 19:43

I do intermittant fasting and my appetite and hunger pangs have reduced so much because im controlling my insulin better. I still eat what I want but within 4-6 hours i.e. 13.00 to 17.00. I gradually built it up though from 16.8. Read gin stephens fast, feast repeat and I recommend her podcast 'intermittent fasting stories' on spotify. I feel, for the first time in 20 years, that I am now on a path to sustainable weight management. There are also a ton of health benefits from fasting. You really need to read the book though.

CornishGem1975 · 03/04/2023 19:45

Full fat Greek yoghurt with your banana would make it more filling so you don't want to snack later and would give you less of a sugar spike.

See, that doesn't work for me, because it's not always about being hungry - I love food. I love snacking. I love eating. I get so much pleasure from it!

BodGaoithe · 03/04/2023 19:46

I was like this my whole life until I did Keto, low carb and intermittent fasting. I was super strict during the pandemic years and lost 4 stone. I only ate between midday and 6pm, but sure that was easier when there was nothing to do.

Now I don’t eat until about 11. I have a couple of cubes of cheese and a boiled egg. Later I have a sort of breakfast muffin without the muffin. (Bun made of pork patties with cheese and egg and the low sugar ketchup in the middle.) I also have dark chocolate.

Dinners consist of meat, sprouts, cheese, salad, broccoli, cabbage, eggs etc. I have Mexican salad one night (mince with cheese, salsa, sour cream, avocado and salad.) I might have a Big Mac salad another night (mince, low sugar ketchup, mustard, mayo, onion, gherkins, salad.) Meat and veg other nights. I can still have red wine, dark choc, diet drinks/ tonic spirits etc.

If I’m on holiday or out for the weekend I sack it off now, but I notice I get super hungry again when I do that. I get the shakes if I am really naughty. Incidentally both types of diabetes run in my family. I find this way of eating stops me crashing all over the place, even though I had never been diagnosed with diabetes.

The keto and keto uk Reddit boards were very useful to me when I first started; check them out for sure.

MintJulia · 03/04/2023 19:46

Eat things that are slower to digest. They stay in your stomach longer and leave you feeling full for longer.

Wholemeal pasta, decent wholemeal bread, brown rice.
Plenty of lightly cooked vegetables
Pulses - beans and lentils
Raw fruit - apples, pears pineapple etc
Drink plenty of water
Cook with small amounts of vegetable oil

Don't buy processed food, white bread, white pasta, shop bought cakes, biscuits, puddings etc and anything that claims to be the 'diet option'. Just don't have them in the house.

Keep fruit, hard cheese and wholemeal bread available if you know you will crave a snack.

Ponderingtosk · 03/04/2023 19:46

Join slimming world, you can stuff yourself with all sort of the right foods, it wasn’t until I started doing that I started losing weight. A body needs to be nourished to give up the fat. Go to a group and stay to group. Worked for me, lost two stones fairly quickly.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/04/2023 19:47

I'm the same but am doing SW, it's brilliant for me despite lots of sniffiness about it on here. I eat more now than I did before and all really good, healthy food. 2.5 stone down since November. It's easy too which helps as the thought of counting calories makes me stressed.

Hellosinktap · 03/04/2023 19:49

Ah I typed a reply and it disappeared!

But I’ve read the full thread now and you’re not eating enough!

Can you manage to have a really good breakfast? The idea is, you eat the biggest meal in the morning (not that I’m amazing at this!) and really pack in some good nutrients. Do you like porridge? Or overnight oats if you’re time poor?

SecretVictoria · 03/04/2023 19:10

I’d be cautious with porridge; doesn’t fill me up at all. Always hungry in less than a hour! Eggs keep me full, I do low-carb, high-fat when I want to lose weight and find I’m rarely hungry on that.

I'm exactly the same. When I have porridge I am always so hungry an an hour or so later. But eggs keep me going all morning.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/04/2023 19:49

Today's meals-

Yogurt and raspberries /blue berries and banana.

Boiled eggs, smoked salmon, salad and a wholemeal roll, babybel cheese. Low fat chocolate custard pot with raspberries.

Mushroom and spinach risotto with green salad .

Hot chocolate.

Skyblue22 · 03/04/2023 19:51

So I'm the same and I started calorie counting. For some reason actually physically looking at a summary of the food I've had on a screen means I can tell my brain "look how much you've had, that's enough" and sometimes that does work. If that's not done the trick I have a hot drink as often that stops me bingeing.

Hellosinktap · 03/04/2023 19:51

I’d also advise a really fantastic quality multivitamin.

Fuelledbycaffeine89 · 03/04/2023 19:52

You need to create a calorie deficit to lose weight. How you do this is often quite personal and based on how you like to eat.

I rate a high protein diet as it does help keep you fuller. I’d also advise adding lots of veg as it creates volume in your meals without too many calories.

you may be hungry a little until your body adjusts. It’s normal / ok to be hungry before your next meal.

Stravawindow · 03/04/2023 19:53

You aren’t eating nearly enough.

Can you do breakfast?

If not, you can still have your sandwich at lunchtime but you need to add more protein so something like full fat yoghurt after. Rather than a sandwich have a large salad or, even your beans on toast at lunchtime. Have some boiled eggs handy for the times you get hungry in the afternoon. Then you need to have a proper meal at dinner time.

DonnaRix · 03/04/2023 19:53

tell me - is it better to eat honey than sugar? Or is it just as bad? I ask because I sweeten things like porridge with honey rather than sugar. I don’t really know how to cut out sugar.

Have you had an HBA1C checked? It sounds like the symptoms of type 2 diabetes

DonnaRix · 03/04/2023 19:54

See if I have soup or a salad for lunch I am STARVING an hour later. Starving.

Saxenda or Ozempic if you can afford them. I pay £150 per month but probably save more than that in food I’m not buying!
It has been a complete game changer for me

Yep me too I've not bought food for two weeks. Hunger completely gone.

CornishGem1975 · 03/04/2023 19:56

Now I don’t eat until about 11. I have a couple of cubes of cheese and a boiled egg.

That's possibly one of the saddest things I've read.

newtb · 03/04/2023 19:56

Honey is fructose and your liver tells your body to store it as fat. Yes, it's 3 times sweeter than sugar, but that's it.
